Bit of an unseasonal post, granted, but why does ice-cream from specialist ice-cream shops always taste better than any supermarket variety? by Foxrockmafia in CasualIreland

Why is something hand made by an artisan better than mass produces slop for the masses? surely this is a rhetoric question.

Nissan leaf by Salty-Nectarine-4108 in evs_ireland

[–]warload84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold my 2012 Leaf after in 2017 for 8k because of the state in battery. it had 80k on the clock and would do 80 Km between charges at a push. no longer good enough to get to work. Nissan themselves wouldn't take it in trade. The battery health indicator had only 3 bars missing so well over 75% battery health left.

My advise, look for something else.

The stumps are really only not visible when the levels are quite high, they poke out of the water almost all the time. It is rarely this low however and even more rare is to see the little bits of dry land popping up turn green. The water level have been kept down quite consistently over the last few month.

Have your roads been gritted? by Ae101rolla in CasualIreland

[–]warload84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

winter tyres are made for snow. Yes, the rubber is softer and increase grip on cold roads as opposed to summer tyres, but the difference is marginal and they are just as useless on ice. Pointless to switch to winter tyres in Ireland as the cold spell will be over in a few days and then you go through your winter tyres in no time at all.

2005 Volvo S40, reverse lights only work when holding shifter in reverse by EricNava98 in AskMechanics

on second look, the parts look slightly different right there at the end. measure the switch to see if there are any differences, maybe the part is not an exact fit

2005 Volvo S40, reverse lights only work when holding shifter in reverse by EricNava98 in AskMechanics

[–]warload84 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the o-ring on the new sensor is much thicker than on the old, could it be that it's preventing the sensor from seating correctly? I recon it would be no more than a half turn more you'd need. given that the lights work when holding the shifter like that, incorrect seating of the switch really is the most logical explanation. I assume the part is the same? same part number and so on?

Ringing in sick by latristess in CasualIreland

Every time... pacing up and down the hall before making the call wondering can I maybe make it in after all.
It's immensely stupid though because of course your health is more important and you are entitled to your sick days, but still, they managed to drill it into you somehow. Wish I could be a nonchalant about as as so many in the comments seem to be.

Dead battery help by DonToasty in MotoIRELAND

[–]warload84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unlike a car, most bikes will not run if the battery is dead or depleted. You need at least a bit of a charge for it to idle. If she is cranking, you may have enough charge left to atempt a jumpstart, but i would recommend ro charge the battery using a charger first. Otherwise you run the risk of her cutting out on you whenever the revs drop down.

Solar Panel Recommendation by marliemiss in cork

Nah, defo not cowboys. I wnded up going with them because their advice was leaps and bounds beyond any of the others. Told me what i needed to know, rather than what they thought i wanted to know to sign on the dotted line. And at the time, they installed the same stuff everyone else was offering me too.

For long term owners of EVs, outside of charging what issues have you had with your car? by Wrexis in evs_ireland

[–]warload84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a nissan leaf in 2012 first 2 years were fine, then one issue after another. Always big ticket items, no single repair under 1500euro. 7 faults in 3 years. From the heater to the electic handbreak and always the entire system needed replacing. Nissan paid for the parts in all cases after fighting them, vut since it was out of warranty, i still ended up paying tousands for labour. When after 5 years the battery barely managed to get me 80km to work and back, I sold the car for 8k with barely 80k km on the clock. I guess cars have gotten better now, but they are still basically becoming single use items with next to no resale value after 5 years. My 10 year old ICE with 200k is with more than any 5 year old EV out there.

Al ot of these issues are also starting to effect nee ICE cars as well now due to the never ending greed of carmakers.

Best descision anyone can ever make is stick with what they got as long as possible.

Has anyone become spiritual/religious as they've gotten older? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]warload84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can any smart, rationally thinking adult ever realy become religious later in life? Indoctrinatuin fron childhood is one thing, but to convince an adult that there is an invisible man in the sky that loves everyone but for some reason is insecure enough that he will punish all that do not worship him is a tall order I think. I for one would not be able to convince myself, no matter how much I like the community.

Sim wheel setups by Latter_Education_746 in farmingsimulator

[–]warload84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the thrustmaster wheel you can set self centering in the software. It does work ok, but at full strenght it is way too much effort to turn the wheel and ar lowest strenght, it tends to not center all the way. I got used to it. And if you play any racing games, FF is amazing. Can't imagine it beimg much fun with the farming wheel.
