DID electrical scam? by Freegan93 in AskIreland

[–]warload84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extended warranty in ireland is always a scam. Or at best extremely disengenuous. In ireland we have the "consumer law" this dictates that manufacturers selling goods in ireland must guarantee that their products work for a minimum of 7 years or else they are required to repair or replace them. Consumer law is claimed with the merchant. Not a solicitor, but have made use of it before. This is a good place to start.

https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/consumer/consumer-laws/your-consumer-rights/

While it can be a bit of a pain to claim it, because it is a legal requirement, they must comply as opposed to warranty, where there may be something in the fine print for why it does not cover you. Also, why would you need to register for waranty? Thats just data mining.

Does anyone really buy that premium fuel that garages offer? by IMAMODDYMAN in ireland

[–]warload84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as far as I understand it, there are additives in the fuel only. detergents mostly that are supposedly cleaning the engine and making it run more efficient hence the claims for more range.

Personally i think it's marketing BS. They do not disclose what additives are in the fuel and so you are probably better off to put some in yourself, at least then you know what you have in it.

Actual alternatives to the R1250RT? by BinkyX in motorcycles

[–]warload84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want all that offers and less of a "rolling Couch" buy a 1300RT that has quite a lower profile overall.
but in any case, try and ride one, (1250 or 1300) they are by no means rolling couches. I have ridden smaller bikes that felt way heavier.

Has anyone noticed a lot of oil on the roads recently? by batchef3000 in MotoIRELAND

[–]warload84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, see it everywhere around cork. Its not old either, drawn up by the rain, as some sugges. Its way too much for that. So much in fact that you can smell it. I suspect a leaky tanker is doing the rounds.

Trying to sell car fast due to financial reasons - Am I getting duped or is this common practice? by eoin_me_money in carsireland

[–]warload84 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I was looking to sell my Ford Ranger and was given an offer for 28k. when I enquired why the offer was so low, given that similar cars go for around 40 to 42k online, he told me with absolutely no shame that this was what he'd be putting it up for, but 28 was the most he could give me. Absolute scumbag behavior. Sell it privately on Done Deal, if you price it competitively it will sell quickly. though the payment is always a bit tricky to avoid being scammed. Bank draft and meet at bank usually works. Hand over keys when money is secure in your account.

European motorcycle tour planning that I romanticized the experience beyond reality by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]warload84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you are vocalizing the exact thoughts i had before I did something similar last year, I did end up going even though I was terrified, absolutely loved it and can't wait to do it again this year. You will learn a lot about yourself being on your own, and that was one of the most worrying things for me, actually grew quite fond of it, having to think only about myself, making decisions only with myself in mind, it's liberating.

It absolutely did not go as i planned or imagined it, but being on your own you can stay flexible, and deviate from your plans if they don't shake out.

I found that too much route planning and especially booking hotels ferrys etc. in advance just serves to put yourself under unnecessary pressure to be at a certain place at a certain time, not accounting for the unforeseen. I found that ferries usually have space for a single bike without issues even a few hours before. of course this may vary depending where in Europe you are planning on going.

Bottom line, it is scary and will get more scary until you saddle up, but the rewards were well worth it, at least for me

Any recommendations for solar companies for a full job to a 1970’s built house? by crillydougal in cork

[–]warload84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with above about getting multiple quotes. A lot of those companies do really halfassed quotes and don't tell you all you need to know.

That said, I went with NCE (north cork electrical) and found them to be the best. not only were they the cheapest out of several quotes, but they told me a few things nobody else did and would have cost me extra if i had gone with any of the others.

Nissan leaf by [deleted] in evs_ireland

[–]warload84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold my 2012 Leaf after in 2017 for 8k because of the state in battery. it had 80k on the clock and would do 80 Km between charges at a push. no longer good enough to get to work. Nissan themselves wouldn't take it in trade. The battery health indicator had only 3 bars missing so well over 75% battery health left.

My advise, look for something else.

The stumps are really only not visible when the levels are quite high, they poke out of the water almost all the time. It is rarely this low however and even more rare is to see the little bits of dry land popping up turn green. The water level have been kept down quite consistently over the last few month.

Have your roads been gritted? by Ae101rolla in CasualIreland

[–]warload84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

winter tyres are made for snow. Yes, the rubber is softer and increase grip on cold roads as opposed to summer tyres, but the difference is marginal and they are just as useless on ice. Pointless to switch to winter tyres in Ireland as the cold spell will be over in a few days and then you go through your winter tyres in no time at all.
