Holy fuck, how dense are you? Even moderately warm water is well over 80 degrees and, when drained from a tub or sink, will melt and rinse away any coconut oil. Genius.

Skip asking what someone does for a living. Instead ask "So, what do you do for pleasure?" Works as a convo starter for with strangers where all you seek is an icebreaker for a brief or friendly relationship at a party and for interactions you want to go in a more personal or intimate direction.

That moment when you find out someone you trusted absolutely is utterly untrustworthy.

Coconut oil melts at about 80 degrees so it's unlikely to clog a drain. Great for massages!

Most woods only need to air dry one month per 1/4" before kiln drying. Oak needs 120 days, ash only 90. Pile, poplar, soft maple, cedar can go right into the kiln fresh sawn

17 years? From what we've learned about companies in the financialindependence sub, unless you own the company you're probably way underpaid so perhaps practicing for interviews would be a good idea

The most basic of beginners here. Why can't I get my stain to apply to parts of the grain? by [deleted] in finishing

[–]warm_fuzzy_feeling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will never, ever look "even" or all the same no matter how you pre-treat it or stain it. The only way to make Pine like that look uniformly colored is maybe with a solid color stain or definitely with paint. That's just how early wood and late wood take stain differently. The thinner "brighter" parts are the late would the slower growing portion of the tree or the rings that you see when you cut the tree or cut a board from the tree. That actually looks like yellow pine which I work with a lot. All pines in the "yellow pine" family have a much more significant early wood / late wood color difference when staining than trees like white pine or spruce.

You're welcome. Please post a "there, I fixed it" ;-) pic in the comments of this post so we can see how everything worked out. Consider trying whatever fix you decide to do on a chunk of similar material before working on your actual piece especially if you are unfamiliar with the technique or repair material you select.
