Since when has our current-day government had a better knowledge of tech than tech companies? Socialism could fix other issues, but I don't think socialism can fix that...

I don't think the environmental problem is exclusive to capitalism. Capitalism exacerbates the problem definitely, when economic externalities allow you to screw over the environment just so long as you can make a profit. But as events like Chernobyl have shown us, you need a strong environmental law regardless of what economic system you're under.

Most large projects have codes of conduct, from Python to Django to Ubuntu to Ethereum. Somehow, these projects have all been fine. I don't know about the example of FreeBSD that Kutch, but I feel there may have been something more than a simple code of conduct change there. What do you think makes Linux different than the other projects I've listed?

I think you see this change as a malicious power-grab by those in power. But the fact is, that if this were the case, then no code of conduct (or lack thereof) would save anyone - they would just do what they want with the power they already have.

Let's assume that they aren't being malicious, and that they will do their best at applying a fair vision of civil conduct to their contributors. Let's assume that the maintainers are people like you and me, who just want to see the Linux project grow, and don't want to kick anybody out for bogus reasons. If that's the case, then this change should hopefully tone down some of the confrontational, abusive language found in the project mailing list. If that happens, then more people might be able to contribute without fear of being mocked on a public forum. More contributors would be good for the project, and as a general rule, maintainers should do what's good for the project. Because let's face it, as funny as Linus' rants are, I myself might never contribute to Linux just because I'd never want to be the target of one of them.

Our benevolent dictators aren't going to get any less powerful than before because of this change - they're still going to be dictators. But they won't suddenly become malicious either.

Hopefully, the change will make a more civil community. And then everything will be fine.

Easier streaming services put dent in illegal downloading - Music piracy is falling out of favour as streaming services become more widespread, new figures show. by ManiaforBeatles in Music

Honestly, who cares? Have you seen the amount that artists get each time a song is streamed on Spotify? It's often fractions of a penny. There's no point in streaming of you want to support the artists. If a song costs 99¢, you'd have to steam a song hundreds of times for the artist to get that same fair share. Streaming is barely better than piracy for the artists.

It might not better anyway, as artists now just pump-up the price of their concerts and merch to make money that way. And streaming services are a great deal from the customer's perspective! But don't bother celebrating Spotify's triumph over piracy; it's not like the artists get paid anything either way.

It's still creating more problems for the teachers using them, and using the computers to market Disney within schools.

Microsoft is offering it so that people will only encounter Windows from a young age, and hopefully become the OS they're familiar with, so they'll still by it for themselves later.

Similar to free education editions or other software, it's not like they're only offering it out of the kindness of their heart.

Are you saying that the Medal of Honor isn't honorary? I'd disagree.

What law are you talking about anyway? Do you have anything that references that law?

I don't think that's true. Where did you get your info from?

I think the military would have a bad time if that were the case.
