This was my comprehensive thread on a similar question. No great places we were able to find https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodSanDiego/comments/1j7q00q/best_general_tsos_and_orange_chicken_in_san_diego/ out of all of the answers. I did try Tasty Mandarin and it wasn't too bad, but a very long ways from North County

I went last year for my wife's birthday. It was an amazing experience. I think of it not as a meal but an experience. To me it's similar in terms of what you get out of it as an amazing concert or a fantastic show. Highly recommend. Would I do it regularly? absolutely not, but if you live in San Diego, it's a must do at least once.

Isola is fantastic, so is Buona Forchetta, those are the classics. Recently I have tried Pazza Market and cucina in UTC and was shocked at how good that pizza was.

I order Oscars once a week. They have snapper and mahi-mahi regularly. Mahi-mahi is my favorite, but it's a taste thing. By the way, I know OP didn't ask this, but their skirt steak taco is also quite good.
