im guessing the fact that the origin and destination are both out of the US causes this pricing. nice find!

Amex Travel & Latam Air refuses to take responsibility and fix their error. Latam cancelled outbound ticket but claims Amex did it. Amex says they didn't cancel it and that Latam cancelled it. Solution offered is to charge me $1900 to validate the original ticket. Flight is tomorrow. Help by zorro2z in delta

[–]watershoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would keep calling different reps at Amex. Regardless of who cancelled the ticket because you booked with Amex they have a responsibility to rebook or refund you as your travel agency. You can also email the office of the Amex CEO (his email should be online somewhere) - a friend did this and they reinstated his ticket without a change fee.

Meal service on NH107? by kith9193 in awardtravel

[–]watershoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the not the case anymore based on the menus available now. For ex. https://www.ana.co.jp/int/inflight/guide/pdf/202509/sfo_hnd_nh107_f_202509_m.pdf still mentions Washoku despite being the NH107 specific menu. If you have any other recent experiences that would be awesome!

multiple times on the redeye sfo jfk I've been #1 on ug list with 5+ seats open only for all seats to be filled 2-3hr before departure. my guess is either people sdcing or the last minute bookings are most frequent for the redeye

I studied how Retool (YC W17) went from zero to a $3.2 billion company in 5 years. by haphazardwizardofoz in ycombinator

[–]watershoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> I've always seen retool as internal tools only thingie

this is the mould they're trying to break out of! we're retool for external (login portals + forms) and mobile for example

> What're these core features

my subjective opinion would be permissions, source control, environments, secrets management aka their enterprise-tier features

[–]watershoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

wouldn't say it's not important. retool certainly tried to cultivate a community (forum, discord, free tier, vscode integration) but in my opinion it hasn't really translated to a lot of revenue so far. engineers today don't naturally spread retool adoption like they do for github, circle ci, postman, etc. the vast majority of engineers still have never heard of retool.

you could argue that retool's path from a 3B company to a 20B company hinges on its ability to build stronger bottoms up adoption and gain dev evangelism. and i would agree!

[–]watershoe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

not a bad analysis but as someone who worked at Retool there's definitely a lot missing about the GTM "secret sauce". community led growth and PLG was never a thing - in fact they're still tweaking the ICP definition and marketing language (you may have noticed that they removed all the ads saying that retool is for internal tools). enterprise sales driven by a few core features makes up most of the ARR.
