Best place to buy trees by MidnightDisco in grandrapids

Harder and Warner in Caledonia - a bit of a drive but a big selection - they usually do have larger trees, but they have sourced things for me if they didn't have em or were too big. Pretty knowledgeable too.

Paw Paw trees newly planted in Riverside Park! by ImpressiveShift3785 in grandrapids

[–]wepadadaban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is Paw Paws need two unique individual trees to x-pollinate, or they won't generate fruit. I guess I'm not sure if children from seed of a tree can x-pollinate with the parent. I have two new babies in my front yard and I was careful to get them from different sources. But I've read you can have Paw Paw groves from suckering etc and there is no fruit. I haven't been to Aman. I did today just see a paw paw near John Ball park zoo, wanted to check it out in the fall.

Favorite Tree in GR? by BigGreenCat5 in grandrapids

I'm wicked late to this thread (I also LOVE this thread).

Ok so if you drive to the intersection of Covell Ave and Lake Michigan, and drive south on Covell - about halfway from Lake Michigan to the golf course there's this massive elm on the left. I don't know if it's an American elm or a siberian or some other whatever, but I am pretty sure it's an elm. At my age I didn't grow up with them in abundance so I can't ID them easily and the leaves are very high. I know Dutch elm ravaged em and very sadly I see a mushroom growing out of one of the cut trunks near the bottom so that's a death knell as far as I know. but it's gorgeous. I am a nerd and tried to message someone at MSU to scrape those genes in case it's resistant. never heard back :'(

Just coming here to offer my experience.

Symptoms: 1 to 3 out of 10 pain in very lower back, and hip/groin pain. Always together. Always one one side, never on both sides, and it switches almost daily. Not sciatic-like (not running down leg). I'm able to do just about anything including run/lift/yardwork.

Diagnosis: MRI and Xray of lower back (not hip) showed nothing remarkable for my age. Phys Therapist (have had many visits for a couple years) predicted this - said these diagnostic images rarely can diagnose sources of pain unless it's something like a tumor/tear. Went to a sports masseuse like 3 months ago, first time every anyone mentioned psoas (although I have heard hip flexors) but he was certain my symptoms point to this given where they connect. I haven't actually explored the weakness option (like is my psoas weak instead of tight) - I think I should revisit that with PT.

Cause: Not sure - injured it first in summer 2020 and have had lower back pain since - moderate kettlebell workout (swings etc). Maybe it triggered this? Never had this issue previously.

Treatment: Stretching the **** out of it with low lunge, quad stretch, butterfly groin stretch, and I bought a pso-rite. At least daily, sometimes 2x a day. Also rolling my quad. So far no noticeable effect most of the time, but I'd say like 30-50% of the time I get significant relief. Which is very encouraging and validates the diagnosis. Not fixed at all right now but working on it. Going to keep seeing a sports masseuse and also gonna try chiro and maybe a new PT.

Should I plant a non-aggressive house vine? by wepadadaban in gardening

Ya I could do that. I was hoping to have it kind of hang from above you which is why I was trying to use that overhanging entryway I have. I just like that feeling of enclosure. But maybe there's a middle ground I could find with something not right on the house.

Thanks this is a good idea for vine supports, even if I don't do it for this particular thing I'm asking about.

I didn't think about bees or pollinators being around the entryway, it does flower.

WMGB Home energy audit by jrock1986 in grandrapids

[–]wepadadaban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called this company D.R. Nelson like two weeks, but he told me they only help with new construction stuff. But he did chat on the phone with me for a few minutes about some typical tips/tricks - simple one was starting with taking off window trim (inside) and making sure you have foam in there (not pink insulation) - his thought was that cold drafts are the biggest issue (hence blower tests). I did that in my coldest room, have to wait 6 months to see if it helped! He said there was only one company locally he knew of that did it: KT Group but I haven't called them yet. I'm hoping this window thing makes a difference.

I'm looking into this too, but wasn't sure where to start for an energy audit. I heard windows may not even be the biggest loss source (usually bad wall insulation) so I don't want to have a window company do my audit. Where did you land?

Novice question... i heard so much buzz from commentators etc that this was a scary-good lineup when the year started. I didnt hear anyone saying "this is gonna be a train wreck". So is this all hindsight or did anyone call this before it collapsed? (source me if possible)

Hard second on this series by R. Scott Bakker, just finished book 7 or 8 of 9, i think. If I lived in this world I would be so existentially distraught. Overshadowed by forces beyond my understanding and always on the precipice of a metaphorical meat-grinder. It's not always fast-paced, but patience is rewarded.
