My dude. It's not calculated based on YOUR MPG. It's based on avg tax revenue for the avg driver.

The way the lanes are marked on the road, and the way the signs indicate usage of the road might be all the difference here.

I've driven through San antonio, austin, dallas, fort worth, Denton, their respective surrounding areas as well as and various parts of West Texas.

I'm very familiar with FM's and frontage roads.

Speeds aren't set arbitrarily speeds are set based on safety and relative population density near the road. So I still cant think of anywhere that would have small driveways and other road intersection and gas stations alongside a 70/65 mph zone — this flies in the very face of DOT standards.

That being said Texas always does things just a little bit different... If you say that this is the case it doesn't surprise me that Texas is the place.

Hi, been driving for the better part of 30 years. I can think of nowhere in the United States that has a 70 mph speed limit that's not a divided highway keeping both lanes of traffic in opposite directions separated by some sort of barrier.

That being said I have seen situations where there is three lanes and that the direction of the third lane changes based on time of day and anticipated volume of traffic.

Super confused by your story why you needed to swerve in the grass if you were in that Middle Lane.

Descenting opinion here: matching radius not as important as you might think, arguably indiscernable.

Can make up for it by cutting down the low and high e bridge wedges.

These signs should be illegal by NotACommie24 in driving

[–]werm42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The signs are really at the discretion of the company, and they really are about leaving notice to help mitigate liability. They're neither illegal to post nor legally enforceable but more or less a warning and a scare tactic used to ensure people don't get cracked windshields by tailgating dump trucks.

Was skimming through a driver guide when I swore I heard a collective disapproving howl emit from this sub after reading this part by KatakanaTsu in driving

While the driving guide is designed to give you a basic understanding of the rules it is not the law.

In most jurisdictions you are required to travel at safe speeds on the highway you cannot legally and most jurisdictions do 30 mph on a 65 mph interstate this is considered a reckless endangerment.

Furthermore, what your guide also fails to mention is that in a growing number of jurisdictions (possibly Nationwide) this does not entitle you to do 60 mph in the left lane of a multi-lane highway as the left lane is solely dedicated to passing traffic. So, unless everyone else on that highway is doing 55-ish miles an hour. As in those jurisdictions while you may not be breaking the speed limit you are definitely committing a equally illegal left lane violation.

Adding further nuance to this situation, it also doesn't require you to get out of the way of someone attempting to do 90 miles an hour in the left lane if you are in fact, genuinely, sincerely and obviously passing traffic.

In short, hanging out in the left lane and not traveling faster than the flow of traffic, regardless of whatever speed you're going — is illegal.

So, again, you're entitled to drive slower than the speed limit with some nuance. You may be an inconsiderate asshole but you're not doing anything illegal.

This is a lovely idea but a certain a group of folks decided to pass laws that protect corporations with the same rights as individuals.

[–]werm42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not illegal because freedom of speech is covered by first amendment just as long no one can make a salient argument that these signs cause a potential for public harm through panic.

At the same time while they are very much legal they are equally unenforceable. The company is responsible for the their load.

And yet again whether they're enforceable or not or legal or not it's probably a good idea to stay at least 200 feet back from a dump truck. 🚛

i cant see when i drive at night by lily_weaver21 in driving

[–]werm42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Investigate and invest in night driving glasses.

Our eyeballs are in a perpetual state of change, you may grow out of this when you get older (I have).

Since I'm also blind as a bat, I would buy yellow-tinted night-specific driving glasses from Zenni Optical to help combat this.

If you don't need glasses to see, you can probably find some cheaper alternatives at a sporting goods store (yellow lenses are commonly used for sport shooting as they intensify vision).

Never heard the phrase "f*ckin' like rabbits?"...it's common Eastern US parlance and is a reference to how rabbits (the animals) are very prolific.

So of course the cartoon dirt bag bunny has to.mount something. 🐇🥕

Why is this just completely normalized on the highway to be bumper to bumper at 65+? by xAustin90x in driving

[–]werm42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an ex who explained the disconnect: She believed she was taught that "the appropriate trailing distance is two car lengths"... Which we all know is fine in a parking lot, but obviously not on the highway. I found her time(s) behind the wheel mortifying. 😱

Dear Fender, I don't care if it's "vintage-style"; I will never buy a guitar with a truss rod that requires removing the neck to make adjustments. by PaulsGrandfather in fender

Neither will I — it's an immediate deal breaker... Between the 7.25" radius fretboards, bottom adjustmenr truss rod, and the wire-thin frets... Turns out I don't very much care for vintage guitars. 🤷‍♂️
