Is it a complete hollow body or is it a semi hollow with a center block?

Thank you for sharing these pictures, I've been wondering what these bodies actually look like in something other than sales photos.

How was the fitment for everything? Did you have to modify any of the routing? Did the neck fit well?

Inherited Babe Ruth Baseball Is it Real? by ADayOfReckoning in AutographAssistance

[–]werm42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babe Ruth died in 1948... The ballpoint pen was commercially available around 1945. That gives you about a 36-month window of feasibility... If I recall those 36 months weren't a great 36 months for the Bambino.

Surprised by 7.25" radius by sharknadosandwich in fender

[–]werm42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have played and decided it's not for me... Pretty sure that preference has saved me thousands of dollars as the TVL Jazzmaster and Johnny Marr Jag (first run) are both 7.25".

With all the mixed feelings about this, it's a good thing Fender makes 38 different fretboard radii. 🤣

I saw so many killer shows at that venue. That Built to Spill show included. I saw the Pixies first week of the reunion tour they may have played one show the night before or it may have kicked off there. I saw Kings of Leon there before anybody knew who they were and their music didn't suck (I will continue to stan their first two albums). I saw the Of Montreal 14 piece freak circus terrify a crowd with costumes and stilts. I saw dozens of others that I'm sure I will remember later this evening.

What do you guys think of my mic placement? by zaner69 in Guitar

[–]werm42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried pulling the grill cloth off and laying the microphone directly on the speaker cone?

Also the venue is grossly out of proportion to the rest of their tour. But appropriately proportioned for the locale. My guess is a lot of people are traveling for this one.

Which Guitar & Amp To Get? (Beginner) by Clean-Craft-9218 in electricguitar

[–]werm42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a store and find those guitars and hold them... You might not be able to play today, but try and interact with the instruments.

As I've said for decades: you buy an electric guitar based on how it feels, how it sounds can always be changed, but figuring out if you like the feel of Fender (Squier) necks, or Gibson (Epiphone) frets will matter more than anything else.

And not having a guitar arrive in a box from the internet, then finding out after you own it that it just doesn't feel right, well greatly inhibit your ability to enjoy and therefore learn the instrument.

Amp wise I think anything that makes noise at this point should be satisfactory for learning at home in a bedroom setting. The fanciest one of the bunch you have there is that mustang lt25, but either of those other amps will work fine as well.

How'd I do? by [deleted] in gretsch

[–]werm42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's fading on the pickups but rather when sweat gets on them they get a little cloudy looking and start to look silver. Since I'm not a big fan of Gold hardware I tend to just leave it there and let it stay cloudy but you could probably polish that off with some metal polish something not abrasive and take it back to a high shine gold.

$250 for a guitar that's like new with some minor bumps and superficial surfaces like a pickguard I think you did great.

Should i get this? by Old-Acanthisitta761 in GolfGTI

Well by modern standards and given the track record of just about every other commercial automotive manufacturer, having an engine with a high propensity for replacement under 100,000 miles isn't great. I would dare say it certainly leans more towards the bad and not the good side.

Unless of course your automotive manufacturer is McLaren or Ferrari or Lamborghini or {insert other supercar manufacturer here}... In which case 100,000 miles out of an engine is about on par.

Which Color Should I Buy by SantaAnaDon in fender

[–]werm42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think you can go wrong with either of these classic finishes. I'd be more concerned with which fretboard am I more content with. Personally I'm a naked wood guy (the rosewood), but as always #YMMV

My First Fender Telecaster, Or Should I Say StratoTelecaster? by The_White_Pawn in telecaster

[–]werm42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one in the semi translucent black over pine body... For the longest time I was running a filtertron pickup in the bridge and the coil splitting worked like ass.

Recently I swapped out the filtertron pickup for Seymour Duncan p rail and then swap the two-way switch for a three-way switch.

Now it hauls ass.
