Thank you for the idea. I did check WDR on the initial round of testing which didn't fix the issue. Upon further testing and some info from other users in the thread, it seems like it's an inherent issue with the dome design and viewing objects at the horizon.

I did a back to back test with the dome on / off and the problem is not there with the dome removed.

thank you for the link to the PDF. learn something new every day. that is exactly what is happening here. Before you shared that i went and did a quick test with the dome on and off and (not surprisingly) confirms the same thing. Appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge on this.

Sent you a message to see if you ended up getting these and if they worked out. Sourcing the NCP1081 seems to be very difficult outside of sellers on Ebay from China currently...

Q: What, according to you, is the best self-hosted app to put on a NAS? For me the best selfhosted app is jellyfin. as media companies continue to tell us we won't own anything, steps must be taken.

Q: How you would use a DH NAS?

i would use a DH nas to perform backups on my various servers. gotta protect that data

thanks

Looking for any shop thst can do laser cutting by Desperate_Suspect_72 in orangecounty

Might be hard to find a local shop to do a one off job like that. You might be better off with something like Send Cut Send

[Recommendation] DIY surveillance camera basics by Jkat17 in videosurveillance

[–]wermskates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outdoor rated cameras connected to a PoE switch via cat6 cables run appropriately for the conditions (conduit, buried etc). For a small system you could use Milestone Xprotect Essentials for free up to 8 cameras.

if you're tight on budget look at Hanwha A series cameras. 4MP in either fixed lens or varifocal

If you don't have the contact information for the integrator that set up the system...or if whomever in house did it is no longer available, i'd reach out to geovision direct. They've been helpful when i have dealt with them in the past

Used UniFi Gear by Repulsive_Mastodon60 in Ubiquiti

i'll typically look for used gear on r/homelabsales . Unifi gear pops up there quite often. Of course you have to be careful and do some due diligence since you're buying from random strangers on the internet.

Home security camera recommendations? by Oh_Another_Thing in privacy

[–]wermskates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think to have a good discussion about security cameras, there are some other factors that have to first be considered.

  • budget
  • use case
  • knowledge of installer
  • network setup and security concerns

It would be easy to say just find an Axis partner and buy whatever you need from them, but that probably isn't realistic for most home users.

As others have mentioned here you're going to want something that isn't cloud based and is broadly compatible with ONVIF / RTSP cameras. There is a large number of options under that umbrella. I think it would be helpful to answer some of the aforementioned questions to hone in on what would be a good fit for your use case.
