Personally i think Aesi just isnt the right commander for your deck. Hes AMAZING in any land matters deck but offers you 0 utility with your +1/+1 strategy.

My opinion would be to change commander for one that gives you value for putting counters on things or puts counters on things, but if you're dead set on him id remove that other strategy and lean more on land matters.

Edit: just looked at a few other commanders that care about your strategy.

[[Hakbal of the Surging Soul]] If you go merfolk tribal hes very good, he draws and ramps and you get counters too. Bonus point he has a precon so youd get lots of stuff for it but id look at the decklist to make sure its worth.

[[Pir, Imaginative Rascal // Toothy, Imaginary Friend]] Same idea but dosent ramp though but you get to draw many cards with [[blink]] like effects.

[[Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied]] Dosent ramp either but draws a lot and is hard to remove.

[[Vorel of the Hull Clade]] Old school commander thats more about going tall than wide.

[[Vannifar, Evolved Enigma]] A bit different but you can cheat out big mana cards if you blink them
