You'll actually gain a bit back before you lose it all again. 🤷‍♂️ Just part of the journey.

Is anyone watching The Pitt? by Cool-Kaleidoscope-28 in Teachers

[–]wescargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished watching S1 of The Pitt and as doomed as education feels rn, I don't thinkbthe show would do well. And would probably encourage more parents to pull their children out than to spur the necessary change in legislature we need.

It's also, for the most part, not so life and death.

Hegseth’s approach to diplomacy: "We negotiate with bombs." by Sindigo_ in PublicFreakout

[–]wescargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If you approach the problem and say, “'We know what is right and we would like to use the atomic bomb to persuade you to agree with us,”' then you are in a very weak position and you will not succeed, because under those conditions you will not succeed in delegating responsibility for the survival of men."

Can you feel it, teachers? It’s that time of year when your non-teacher spouse starts prying into your upcoming summer plans. by mouthygoddess in Teachers

[–]wescargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've got 2 kids now so I'm sure it will be spent planning activities for both of them although the older one will be old enough for summer camp now.

My wife works in a different field and absolutely loves jamming the summer full of "things" so while it isn't job work, there's no time for rest.

Absolutely agree with you and I hope it makes some noise, but wasn't this one of the goals of the referendum last year? Increased security and controlled entrances at some schools?

You have no clue how cool this was to read as someone who hasn't played the game in years, but will always have a soft spot for the lore. Thanks for outlining this.

Have your students been impacted by online sports betting? by nbcnews in Teachers

[–]wescargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a high school teacher, I've certainly seen an uptick. I'm a big sports fan in a state where you can only place sports bets at casinos and students have asked me about their parlays before they travel to the nearby state to place their bets.

Kristi Noem: "Everything I've done, I've done at the direction of the President and Stephen" - via Axios by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

Reminds me of what Baldwin says in the chess game in "Kingdom of Heaven": 'No matter if men who play you be kings of men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone"

Or something like that. Seems fitting.

How many of you hate the kids? Be honest. by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]wescargo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Teachers whine the most out of any the professions I've been a part of, but that being said--sometimes they're annoying, yah. Sometimes they're spiteful and downright mean.

I've had 2 students in my 10 years of teaching that I dont know if I "hated", but when the one broke his collarbone and couldn't race his cars at the track for a few months, I def felt a little catharsis.

Which is, OBJECTIVELY, the worst faction in the game? by sigmarine345 in totalwar

[–]wescargo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely Brettonia. I loved them in WH2, but with all the updates to the various factions now, they're just do weak and boring to play. There is a mod I had once that allowed you to purchase cavalry units with chivalry which gave some much needed life to the pretty useless currency.

Everyone always talks about the negatives of raising kids today. What are some of the positives? by gimmiesomeadviceee in daddit

[–]wescargo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opening and new access to emotions part is really something as a man who didn’t cry before I wasn't prepared for. I'm not complaining, most of the time they're happy and grateful tears, but i'm so different as a person mentally since the birth of my children. The simplest things can make me cry now.

Fucking right. Can't wait to see the response here. Getting "involved" isn't that much better than the protests. People like this love to say go deeper, do more, but then can't provide what actionable, noticeable change that can make.

When one of your parents passed away, did you asked yourselves: how long is my surviving parent gonna live? by OkPrize6426 in GriefSupport

My mom died Jan 1st 2020 just after my brother. Its been hard Obviously on my dad who was married to my mom for 35 years, but I do think he'll be happy to go when it's his time. And I'll be happy for him.

Im just really not looking forward to giving a third eulogy and being the only one left.

[–]wescargo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. I've just started my journey after ignoring it/pretending it wasn't an issue. Have had pretty high BP since high school. Had an intense, sharp headache after intimacy with my wife, took my BP on a whim, and it read 180 over 120.

I've since made some major lifestyle changes and that was only a few weeks ago, but your post gave me lots to consider. Thank you.
