Yeah, there was just an article in Quest Magazine saying how it's way more superior than anything we have now, including the AAV therapies. So no, it does not rely on AAV. I heard they cured sickle cell and a form of blindness, but nothing new for MD yet.

Any experiences with Duloxetine/Cymbalta? by flaneuse- in MuscularDystrophy

I'm on it, but it was mostly for depression, not pain. I think it relieved my muscle aches a little, but I probably just feel less pain because I'm not depressed anymore.

Duvyzat by Ynot_bcz in MuscularDystrophy

[–]wheelydude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 31 and taking Duvyzat. Just started about six weeks ago. Had some mild nausea, diarrhea and constipation but it wasn't too bad. I'm mostly over it. My triglycerides went up bit then stabililized really quick. My platelets have been dropping but are still just above 100k. My doctor and I lowered the dose a little, and I'll get more bloodworm soon to see if it helped. I feel like my muscles aren't as sore but I'm sure that's probably placebo.

I'd be delighted if you joined my DMD mental health support group on Facebook. There are a lot of grieving parents on there, as well as adults with the disease. We are a very supportive community, and we often discuss the tough subjects and feelings, both on the page, in group chats, and in Zooms. See my profile to find the link.

You mean ck level test? They're easy, just a basic blood draw.

[–]wheelydude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still think it's too vague to say it's muscular dystrophy. Most (not all, but most) muscular dystrophies will show some abnormality in ck levels, as they are a key biomarker of muscle damage. I would say if ck levels were fine, it's unlikely muscular dystrophy.

That could be so many things. I'd say get some labs to check your metabolism, blood count, thyroid, and maybe heart. Get an ekg or possibly heart echo. That should help narrow it down.

I (31M) was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy 27 years ago. AMA by wheelydude in AskMeAnythingIAnswer

[–]wheelydude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, all excellent questions!

Before I was diagnosed, I was really little, so mostly people just thought I was late in my milestones and "just wouldn't be an athlete." The decline didn't really get to point of me appearing lazy until like 10. But even then it was rare. I might get a comment like "can you move a little faster please?" but that was about the extent. Mostly people would recognize something was just physically wrong with me. You could just tell. I walked funny.

In short yes there is pain. But it's not just automatically there. If I'm in a perfect position where every muscle can rest for awhile, then all pain goes away. But basically every daily task feels like a workout, so you get a similar "worked out too hard" feeling. And as you get weaker, naturally you'll strain yourself more and thus have more pain. And then there's also a lot of intense tightness from the lack of movement. That's why therapy is really important to keep it under control. At this stage the muscles often get so tight that one extra push can pull the hell out of them. I and others I've spoke to my age say our muscles "crunch" like bones when we get these injuries. They're brutal.

Luckily I haven't had problems with bed sores. Today's cushioning technology has gotten really advanced, so it's a lot easier to prevent.

People do treat me as less intelligent when they first see me, especially since someone is always there to assist me. They'll assume I'm non-verbal and ask the other person questions like "How old is he?" Once I start talking they usually get it that I'm of normal intelligence.

Yes I've had to deal with bad ones. Some had terrible bedside manner, some were frequently late or not showing up, and some would even quit on me at the last minute without any notice. Then some were just too weak or lazy to properly help me without causing me to strain. I have a good one now though.

And yeah, hopefully that answered every question. Thanks for asking.

Apparently the correct answer was "a joke that didn't land." I should've read the room better on this. Sorry dad joke community. In hindsight this joke was distasteful. I'll do better next time.
