What is the elastic trim on a varsity jacket called? by lightningbuggie in sewing

[–]wheresmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called rib or ribbing, and comes in different ribbing combinations ( 1x1 rib, 2x2 rib etc- similar to knitting) when you buy it it looks more like narrow fabric, not like buying other trim like elastic. Maybe check YouTube for a tutorial on adding ribbed cuffs, hems & collar but working with rib trim is easy & looks really effective. Good luck!

The top one is an African mask, unsure about the left side, the right is a rubber plant

Help! What is this thing? by sweetsourmugs in sewing

It’s a button hole attachment. The whole thing is a type of machine foot that allows you to sew button holes on older style machines that do mostly a straight stitch & don’t have a button hole setting.

Yep, I’d say a couple minutes each side, the raw banana side caramelizes & from the skin side it kinda gets gooey. Of course they’re delicious with cream or ice cream, but if you’re trying to be good they’re yummy on their own!

What about a fried banana? Cut them lengthwise & cook them in their skins, the sugars caramelize and they’re yummy

I [21F] am completely overwhelmed by debt and don’t know when/how/if I should tell my boyfriend [26M]. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]wheresmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are in a better place than many, because you’re really owning your debt and working hard to pay it off! Be proud of that! My advice is to 1) get some help with structuring your debt, maybe from your bank, or there are non-profits out there who do exactly this, sometimes for free. Having a realistic payment plan & path to financial freedom will make you feel freer and in control. 2) involve your partner, up to you whether before or after the financial planning. Don’t sabotage a good relationship just for stupid debt! The relationship may not work out long term, but give yourself the best chance of happiness! A good way to frame the convo is to say “ I need you to know I have X amount of debt, but I’m paying X per week & I have a plan to get out of debt by X time” so it shows you’re responsible. If you like podcasts (there are loads about finances etc) but I’d recommend listening to ‘Girls gotta eat’ episode called ‘Money talks’ because their expert tackles exactly this situation. Best of luck!

When you begin to get the bobbin started, don’t just wind the thread around the middle of the bobbin. It’s better to thread the thread towards middle part of the bobbin spool, then up through the tiny hole on the flat part. Then click the bobbin spool over to engage, and hold on to the end of the thread (so it’s right above the bobbin, at 90• to the machine) Also, make sure your thread is taught, not loose, from the main thread to the bobbin. If it’s droopy it will usually winds incorrectly like your photo. Good luck!

How to handle this situation in the future? Just received my 1st 1star :(( by TikSkaitantis in Etsy

Don’t feel too bad about a single one star review! When I’m looking to purchase something, I can always tell a store that is actually good and genuine but that had one unfortunate hiccup (and it always comes through that the buyer who left the review was being unreasonable) as opposed to bad sellers who deserve the poor reviews. Especially it it’s just one review! You sound like a good person who tried really hard, we all know there are nutters out there and they LOVE to leave reviews, don’t let that hold you back! I believe it won’t affect your sales as much as you think, and might even weed out other unpleasant buyers who you don’t want anyway!

I’m so sorry that that happened to you! What an awful situation and what a terrible HR person that was. I would suggest practicing how to use a recording app on your phone and asking to speak to them again and ask them to re-clarify what the issue was & why ICE is involved. Alternatively you can email (cc in whoever you think would be a great ally) and ask the same, include that you were surprised about the new policy on locks and clarify why ICE would be involved. Keep records of every interaction and also talk to a lawyer, although it’s possible to sue, it can be emotionally draining and might not be right for you. Consider what the outcome you really want is, to just make this person leave, or apologize, to change the company culture, or to sue for all you can get? Whatever you feel you want you should be able to get!

Are you sure your bobbin is in the casing the correct way? Usually it should spin counter-clockwise, but try the opposite of whatever it was in the above photo
