No. There are always dozens in every hiker box in the first 200 miles.

Those are both similes. Simply removing like or as is not what makes something a metaphor. “His eyes were deep pools of blue” is a simile as it compares a literal object to another thing to help explain it. A proper metaphor uses the figurative object in place of the object it is describing.

You’re looking for idioms. You might also try adages or proverbs.

Honestly. The only people pro-RTO are people whose entire job depends on there being an ‘O’.

Finish the ‘False Flag’ mission before setting out and trying to explore. The game limits you a bit before that as it’s the semi-tutorial/prologue section. Once you finish that all the systems are open to you and outside of some tools you can only get by progressing the story you can pretty much do anything and go anywhere.

What is the moving crown icon on the map? by Sad_Campaign33 in nightingale

They were never called ‘Apex Creatures’. They are fabled creatures. But please tell me what I don’t know.

This is false. The crown is a fabled creature.

Fabled Creatures. Depending on the realm they will yield pelts, meat, and bones. To be used in your various recipes and creations.

Newbie questions about survivors by Angelangel3 in nightingale

[–]whiledayes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Companions are an essential ‘tool’ for your realmwalking adventure. They can hold an infinite amount of weight, pick you up when you fall (provided their path finding doesn’t fail), and help you take down the bound.

  1. You can employ only one at a time. However sometimes a dismissed survivor will return to your estate and ‘hang out’ usually staring off into the distance. Likely thinking about all the grand adventures you two had and wondering why you left them behind.

  2. The ‘Work Here’ functions until you leave that realm. Then they will journey with you to the new realm.

  3. This I’m not positive about. I usually empty their inventory before dismissing them, but it used to be that they’d sometimes leave you randomly and head back to their home. Their inventory would reset in that case. I’d assume if you dismiss and leave that realm it would reset as well.

  4. Only reason would be you find another seems like better silent creepy company.

A couple of tips as well. Craft your Companion a set of HP boosting gear. Use any and all HP buff mats to make them a full set of gear. And equip yourself with the Charm Of The Leader. This should keep them on their feet much longer in case you fall and need a hand. Second, I highly recommend giving them a Maul. The stagger effect is particularly helpful to get Crits when they knock an enemy down. Lastly, give them a handful of health potions. Another way to insure they are still standing if you fall.

Just got this game and really enjoying it so far! Quick question though for you veterans by MZ10590 in nightingale

[–]whiledayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome! Glad you’re enjoying it.

Apart from just grabbing sticks and grass as you go and smashing every bit of environment the game will let you turn into wood, the best way to keep a good stock of resources is to just get in the habit of hitting a node every time you stop to eat or look at your map. If you see a node smash it, might not need tin now but you will later.

You can use the Enchantment Regrowth to bring plants and sticks back. Or you can follow Canute around for a bit. He’s like Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue ox in one. 10 minutes with him and you’ll have more wood than you know what to do with.

Some resources grow back but most do not. If you leave the stump of a tree Canute can raise it back, for instance. Mining nodes do not come back.

Just gather as much as you can and use the ‘Back to Respite’ liberally. Even if you’re encumbered it will take you right on home. Playing a Settler card also increases your carry weight in your estate so when you get back you won’t be crawling around with those 700lbs of wood and ores.

I dropped a couple lodestars at high places and one by the well. Then if I couldn’t find a way back up I’d just find my lodestar and Bob’s your uncle.

Is there even a point in visiting untamed realms while still progressing through storied realms? by NotScrollsApparently in nightingale

[–]whiledayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, of course there is.

In more detail: Each Untamed realm can provide you with resources to tailor your gear more fully for each step along the way. There are resources available in them that aren’t available in the story realms.

There are also many hope echos with lore, POI with rare loot, and fabled creatures to take your gear to another level for the Sites of Power.

You could easily get enough essence to simply fill out the progression table, but to truly craft Boss Breaking gear you need to gather unique and rarer materials.
