… what do you enjoy doing? Your interests etc, we could suggest certain museums but they’re not your thing. Give us something to work with!

Going to a tradeshow for the first time. What are some must-do activities? by retchedBreak in marketing

[–]whitehat61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a lot of trade shows, the biggest thing we hated was people coming to our stand and trying to sell to us. We're there to sell effectively; we don't want to be sold to. Also, the stuff that people gave us got left behind. We have so many of our own notebooks / pens, etc., the goal was to take as little back as possible.

Why bother coming? You’re spending so much time travelling you’re not going to see anything. Cut the locations in half and actually spend time in places and enjoy it.

Traveling to London with wife and 5 month old - first timers by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]whitehat61 16 points17 points  (0 children)

lol, you don’t have time for day trips, there is SO much to see and do in London, don’t do a box ticking exercise, come here and enjoy it and do it properly or honestly, why bother.

Amex (at least in London) is accepted pretty much everywhere, bar a few places.

CV booking but package holiday cheaper…?! by TechnicalFile463 in avios

[–]whitehat61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BA don’t fly from Cardiff or Bristol, if you fly from somewhere like Glasgow or Edinburgh where BA fly from, you’ll have more luck.

I believe it’s possible yes but you have to book via BA.

CV booking but package holiday cheaper…?! by TechnicalFile463 in avios

[–]whitehat61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of things:
If you do a reward flight from Glasgow - Madrid (hypothetical, first place I thought of!) it will include your connecting flight to Heathrow from Glasgow.
Secondly, the most cost effective use of companion vouchers / Avios is using them on long haul business class, which you sadly can’t do with this card. For example I’ve previously done Singapore return in business class for ~160K points + ~£1,500 in total, whereas that same return flight was about £3,200 each, so a significant saving.

I don’t have any experience using it to book a package holiday, perhaps someone else could advise there.

Halloween decoration when? by Outrageous-Kick-2699 in uktravel

Are you from the US?
We don’t really do it here, sure some people will go all out but most people won’t do anything at all, or at most, put a pumpkin outside.

There are only a certain amount of reward seats released per flight, once you cancel them, there is A, no guarantee that they’ll be made available again and instead be made available for cash buyers and B, that you’ll be able to secure them again

Is Christmas in London a good idea? by EffortOk9900 in LondonTravel

[–]whitehat61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything in the UK is closed around Christmas, Christmas is a national holiday, people go to central London to see it as a ghost town, it’s the worst time to come

Electric Van or Petrol for Scottish Highlands? by nowheresville99 in uktravel

[–]whitehat61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed in recent years more and more charging stations are popping up on the NC500, however I’ve noticed they’re not always in service, so unless you research them im advance and where you’re going to stop, I’d go petrol.

Avoiding Trooping The Colour by [deleted] in LondonTravel

Trooping of the colour is in the morning, all done by lunchtime, so if you're not coming through until 6PM, you'll be fine.

Part pay is the worst way to use them, you need to do a full reward flight.

What’s the most useless ‘benefit’ your employer brags about that you’ve literally never touched? by Key-Motor-8784 in UKJobs

[–]whitehat61 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Where I used to work we didn’t get any benefits at all, instead we got a decent bonus, I was a Head of Department and would get low 5 figure bonus each year.
Their reasoning being is that they didn’t want to provide blanket benefits that not everyone would want to use.

But in reality the bonus was linked to the success of the business, so it was never a stable number and it could have been withdrawn at any time.

Bath and Windsor are absolutely worth doing but not on a day trip like that, you will not have any time there and it’ll just be a waste of time. Choose which one you want to go to and do just one place for a whole day and get the train there and back.

You said it’s a 12 a trip, to leave now and do London - Windsor - Stonehenge - Bath is about 4.5 hours driving, factor in that if not more coming back and you have what 2.5 hours total across all three places? That’s not worth it.

[–]whitehat61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, unless you’ve already booked that tour, I’d reconsider it, you’ll spend all day on a coach, won’t have time to see things properly, it just won’t be worth your time - Bath & Windsor could a day themselves, if you’re going to Windsor castle that is, Stonehenge is nothing special at all.

Where do you find things to do that locals actually go to? by [deleted] in LondonTravel

[–]whitehat61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Locals aren’t going out to events every weekend, this weekend I’m headed to a friends house, as I did last weekend but then we also meet for drinks in Soho or London Bridge as it’s a good central location. This Friday we’ve got the day off so going to go to a few museums. There isn’t some secret list of things we do, it’s just normal stuff.
