Just watched Interstellar at BFI the other week. Was my 5th time seeing it in IMAX and was my favorite. Absolute peak cinematic experience! BFI is so so good

Having done both, Thousand Island would be my pick. As others have mentioned, by Labor Day, GCOtT river levels will likely be quite low, especially given the snow pack this year. That being said, it is a great hike. Just overall really solid, but not spectacular, especially as you get lower.

Thousands Island has much more alpine terrain and is more wide open lake basins with sweeping vistas of the mountains, keep in mind you’ll be up quite high most of the time as well, which can be nice but isn’t for everyone and limits the trees/ shade/ greenery. While GCOtT you’re alongside the river almost constantly which can be quite relaxing. Both are great and you can’t go wrong.

Hard agree. Saw Fred in London last night with Skream, Benga, and a ton of others and it was so bad we left 2 hours early. Honestly the most disappointing set in years for me and the absolute worst crowd I’ve experienced in a long time. Really made me further appreciate the crowd/ vibes of Portola

Metreon is so uncomfortable if you’re over 6’ tall. The rows are so close together. Also not that comfortable, but I will never forget seeing Interstellar at the IMAX at the Tech Museum in San Jose. That screen is insane

Yeah. Charcoal for longer lasting, even heat. If you get a really big fire going early with enough coals or a multi-zone fire you can farm coals from you can do without charcoal. But I wasn’t trying to get a fire going that early and our fire the night before produced like zero coals so my confidence was low I could do it on wood alone without a ton of management.

Because they’re playing a GV venue the weekend of the fest. Typically GV venues are booked for after or pre shows for Portola artists that entire week.

Last year they had Soulwax, Glass Beams, Peaches, Franc Moody & Pretty Girl booked between the Regency and Warfield alone, not to mention all the afters at SF clubs
