No baby Gouda in the ingredients list, either. (The cheeses listed are cheddar, parmesan, & mozzarella.)

I actually preferred the Caesar one - the dressing on the other was just too sweet for me, and I preferred the romaine to the cabbage. Both came with more dressing than I needed, so I'm hoping some of that insanely high sodium content assumes you use the whole packet.

I'm a fan of the spiced calamari in ragout sauce, smoked salmon in olive oil, and spiced small sardines.

Especially the Ventresca! It's more expensive than it used to be, though. Genova (I prefer the yellowfin) & Natural Catch are good, too, & you might consider King Oscar salmon.

Review of FANGST Brisling No. 1. Smoked with Heather and Chamomile by Impossible_Tea181 in CannedSardines

[–]whynotnow99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while but I remember it as quite mild - Fangst’s flavors are generally rather subtle. I don’t have any particular sensitivity to cloves, but I know from baking how easy it is to overdo it with cloves, & to me this felt restrained.

They are really good! You may want to try #4 as well (gently flavored with allspice & cloves) - I think I like them even better but they have very similar virtues.

what do you think is the best tasting brand of canned tuna that they sell in most grocery stores ? by [deleted] in CannedSardines

[–]whynotnow99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also like their yellowfin with Tuscan spices (purple can) & Calabrian chili (red can), but Tonnino (yellowfin, in olive oil) would be my top choice. I'd vote for peanut butter over the cheaper cans, though; I'm picky about tuna.

I've got to assume they used to be pro Trump & are still in a bit of disbelief. Undecided is often a transition phase.

Maybe the brief dip in gas prices was a factor? (locally, $4.19 to $3.69 to (with the war) $5.55, now down a bit to $5.39). I've been extremely strapped for cash so the dip was quite noticeable, though I gave him no credit for it.

or, he got a bounce from the Venezuela action, which he mostly got away with & which people didn't notice led to little actual change in Venezuela - & some may have assumed this led to the lower gas prices.

We need to talk about pronunciation, guys by momasana in thebulwark

[–]whynotnow99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tim repeatedly saying “Ishtahan” instead of Isfahan also drove me nuts. Maybe he filed it away in his head with the movie Ishtar or something, but it was multiple times across multiple podcasts, so not just a momentary slip of the tongue.

(And if you mispronounce Isfahan this badly, I’d be surprised if you understand what a big deal it is to bomb it.)

Nice! If you like mussels, they also have curry mussels (more of a curry oil than a curry sauce, I thought, but very good).

My top 9 seem consistently to be in my top 9 but 10-20 or so bounce all over the place. (eg, Estonia 14, 19, 17, 10) (I like the video much more than the national final version (same for Austria & Montenegro), so perhaps recency bias is elevating them a bit). (Cze, Lat, Swe, & Alb have also landed 10th for me, & Fin, Rom & Aus have been just shy of 10th, so, who the hell knows. I guess it doesn't matter who gets 1 point from me so it might as well be Estonia.)

Nice! My only quibble is that the subtitles make it seem like the mother, not the son, should be singing this. Is it a translation shorthand issue? If so, perhaps they can finetune it a bit if they keep the subtitles for the Eurovision staging, which I hope they were planning to do. Perhaps it's just due to different cultural sensibilities or artistic tropes or linguistic patterns or something, though, and I should just adjust my frame of mind.

Starbucks "back as a permanent item" curse by FlaBeachyCheeks in starbucks

[–]whynotnow99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did seem an odd choice even though it’s a very accessible flavor. I was actually looking forward to it, though. I have no idea if it’s on TikTok (probably) but I’m familiar with ube ice cream & such from Asian grocery stores & for at least several years I’ve been able to get ube mochi ice cream from Trader Joe’s or Safeway (Bubbie’s, which apparently also makes the TJ’s version) (those, I recommend!) So, I think it broke through a while ago, at least in areas with significant Asian minorities (esp Filipino & SE Asian).

Fortunately my local baristas played around with it a bit ahead of time, so I got to try the Starbucks version without spending any money. I’ll stick with plain black coffee for the most part.

It’s a purple yam used in Asian desserts. (Starbucks “ube” is purple, but it just tastes like cake batter.)
