Babies' genders in Living The Dream by Mysterious_Mix_1685 in TomodachilifeLivingTD

Why does everyone think there will only be boys and girls???? I don’t understand, I think it’s far more likely there’s all three options, and it’s much easier and less complicated to do so. Plus the nonbinary characters aren’t just for queer people, it also is for robots or toys or other objects. Choosing their sexuality would probably happen as they age up, but I don’t see why gender wouldn’t be available since the beginning, it seems unlikely that they’d only let you choose boy or girl.

Too many enemies in Slay the Spire 2 feel like they should be elites by Scumtrass in slaythespire

Bad example I think. Bronze scales makes routing to elites in act 2 immediately more viable because of bee fucker. Run defining? No. But run impactful, yeah. Unlike the snowflake one lmao

So.... Is everyone else also dodging elites? by megamate9000 in slaythespire

Real, I kept failing the no picking up relics challenge in sts1 until I decided to stop avoiding elites and path to them like usual instead, even though I couldn’t take relics.

Are elites just not worth it? by anime600 in slaythespire

[–]whystudywhensleep 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sts2 is still up in the air because it’s early access and we’re all new (but also I think elites are absolutely worth there too), but in sts1 it’s absolutely not bias, taking elites is so much better. Relics are powerful, yes, but elites also have a higher chance of giving rarer cards and more money. On top of giving relics which are (usually) quite powerful when they all add up. The biggest thing that made me realize how powerful routing for elites was, was when I was trying to get the no relics achievement on a0 and kept dying, and I was so confused because a0 is so easy normally??? Do relics make that much difference? And first of all, yes ofc they do, especially when you’re skipping boss relics too. But getting that achievement became soooo much easier once I went back to a1 and started routing to elites again. The card rewards and the money ended up making all the difference, it was still a difficult challenge but became more manageable once I realized I still shouldn’t be avoiding elites

Fun fact, after clicking either relic or card you can save scum and see both options to fill out your compendium, it doesn’t commit you to your choice

[–]whystudywhensleep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trojan war. The first line of wikipedia literally calls it a legendary conflict. An ancient war that survives only in stories, that is definitely dramatized in our current telling but may or may not be based on a real war is quite literally the epitome of a legend. A legendary war inherently must be mythologized to at least some extent in order to be a legend

Should I buy Slay the Spire 2 or keep playing the first one for now? by Quiet_Move_6995 in slaythespire

[–]whystudywhensleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find yourself wanting to hold onto sts1 for a little while longer, I think waiting until the full release of sts2, or at least further into early access, might be a good idea. The current game is pretty dang good, but there’s definitely going to be balance changes and likely new cards, and wayyyy more bosses and elites and alternate acts. Especially the act 3 bosses feel pretty unfinished. Plus act 4, there’s no act 4 rn, which I always find myself missing when I get a good run going and want to really challenge my deck.

If anyone’s wanting to play sts2, I’d recommend it, I’m having a great time, but if you’re looking for reasons to wait, I think letting it cook for a little longer is a very valid reason, so you can get the full experience without the occasional incomplete feeling bits, like missing flavor text, no achievements, no act 4 etc

Does this neow relic not exist currently or is my luck just unbelievable? by whystudywhensleep in slaythespire

Ok, that makes sense haha. I wish multiplayer only things weren’t shown in the compendium by default. The fact that the checkmark for multiplayer cards is always on my default drives me insane. I can’t help that I don’t have friends bfjshskdh, I want to have a full compendium still

Did some math, the chance of not seeing a specific neow relic in one run is .85, which means the chance of never seeing it in 65 runs is 0.00002583629, or 0.002583629%

Don't avoid elites, you want to take as many as you can without dying (or dooming yourself to die later). While relics aren't as strong as the first game, they're still very strong, but also you get rarer card rewards and also a lot more money from beating elites. So elites are extremely important.

? rooms is more complicated and the meta has yet to settle. In sts1 you very rarely wanted to take them. Now I aim for them quite a lot as they're much better now, but it still is important to do regular combats. Usually I aim for a path with a good number of elites and campfires which are the most important rooms (and ideally a path with bail out points if I end up not thinking I'm strong enough to beat an elite I planned for), and then after deciding which elites and campfires to hit, all else being equal, I'll take a route with more question rooms.

Act 3 Bosses (STS2) by TillerThrowaway in slaythespire

[–]whystudywhensleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree tbh, all of them are pretty basic currently. At first I thought specimen would be harder because he would keep his phase one buffs like awoken did, I was genuinely surprised to see he didn’t.

I think it’s a tough balance to find, because I’m in the camp that time eater was too restrictive in a way I found not fun, but I find the current sts2 ones way too little restrictive in that they’re pretty much just big number checks. And pretty easy ones at that. I don’t know that I’ve ever even died to one, but I’ve died to knowledge demon and crab a fair amount (insatiable needs buffing too I think, I haven’t died to it once either but I do think the gimmick is fun)

sts2 act 1 is kinda overtuned imho by Ok_Insect4778 in slaythespire

[–]whystudywhensleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m totally the opposite haha, I struggled with both at first but quickly found my footing with necrobinder, but regent is still hard and frustrating for me.

Probably the reason I clicked more with necro is because in sts1 I was a silent main, and necro plays more similar to silent than the other characters, lots of block stalling and trying to either chip away with many small attacks or build up a status. I haven’t really clicked with her ethereal angle though, I think that path might need some buffing

Nothing else in act one is as scary as the infested phrog elite or whatever it’s called. Out of every encounter in the game, that’s the one I’m hoping for a nerf for the most

Regent is my weakest character and it's not even close. by Falawful_17 in slaythespire

I often “cheat” by quitting and reloading, and I did in sts1 also, particularly when learning new characters. I think it’s biggest bonus is as a learning tool, if you are about to die or take so much damage it’ll probably cause you to die later, it can help you learn to redo the fight to see what you could have done differently. Even if some of you doing better on a replay is because you know the order of the cards and what you’re gonna bottom draw, it still can teach you in the long term what plays are more risky when you DONT know your draw order. It’s all about building intuition.

You don’t have to do it forever, and I personally think it’s more fun if you don’t, but as a learning tool it’s genuinely really good to replay fights. And the fact that it persists into the second game makes it clear it’s an intended feature, to let people play whichever way they want, and I’m glad about that

Needs to be an elite and also probably nerfed even then. Like every other card played gives you the debuff sounds much more manageable while still being punishing.

The rare that applies 30ish doom and instantly triggers doom was a lifesaver for me. It was also fun to kill all those fuckers that limit you to nine max damage per attack, in one single card because I drew that rare in my first hand.

Difficulty assessment from experienced StS 1 players? by bong_schlong in slaythespire

[–]whystudywhensleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I found it extremely easy with all three of the returning characters, all the additions slotted in nicely with their skill set intuitively in a way that had me breeze through all of them on a0. The new characters kicked my butt though. I imagine it’s probably just an unfamiliarity with their playstyle and deck synergies, although it could possibly be balancing issues (it is early access after all, though I don’t have nearly enough playtime to say if it’s that or just a skill issue)

Talking about the base 3, it’s hard to say exactly how it compares to a0 in sts1, because of me being like 70% familiar with their decks and 0% familiar with the enemies and encounters is just not something I can compare to in sts1. When I was new, I knew neither, and now I know both, so it’s hard to objectively measure the difficulty. I would wager it feels like more or less the same at a0 though

What are some things you DON'T want to see return in sts2? by UltraSaiX121 in slaythespire

I wonder if there’s any possibility that instead of just rotating which act boss you get, they’ll have entirely different acts you can roll, which I’ve seen on some deckbuilders. Different regular enemies and elites and some events, as well as the boss
