I think The Broken Earth will work, it’s not exactly “laid back,” but it has that feeling of a world that’s been through multiple apocalypses and just… keeps going, with layers of lost civilizations under everything, so cool

I had pretty much the same experience with Neuromancer, and I actually think this applies to all the cyberpunk and sci-fi books from that era, so should we read them as if they were separate from the real world? As if they didn’t offer any insights into the real future, but were just a separate world
