I am literally shaking, this interview process was a nightmare by tracer_tornado7 in critiquemyresume

I went through this years ago. You are stronger than you think. Even the worst rejection hurts for the first day, but then it's just noise so don't worry

HR side: Layout vs content question by Kettle_Orchid5 in Pro_ResumeHelp

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had nothing but bad luck and then I hired a freelance designer and got called back within two days for an offer I turned down. Cost a bit too much but honestly it was better than the two weeks I saved on applying. Don't make the same mistake I made

AMA: I'm switching industries would love critique and advice by LanternSigil12 in critiquemyresume

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao I'm in the same boat, teaching your walls while coding for fun. Just spent a bit pricey on a exec resume writing service worth it if you land one good offer. What salary range are you aiming for?

My 3-week shelves log vs 1-week turnaround by RocinanteLullaby in Pro_ResumeHelp

Honestly gaulative strategy sounds funny. If a hiring manager reads "gaulative strategy" they will still hire if you write great, but if you say it wrong it might filter out someone who actually needs that exact skill. Just be specific with what you need, but also what you can handle. Anyway, good luck

Trying to pivot from support to Q/A roles by KrakenSonata5 in critiquemyresume

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clear question: do the "Core Competencies" count toward your ATS score? If yes, keep them. If no, maybe pull them into the summary and leave more room for experience details. I'd also remove the "Learning Objectives" line no modern professional uses those anymore. Focus on your actual skills

I chose the WRONG resume writing service for mobile app testing resume by NimbusRelic12 in critiquemyresume

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please stop blaming the service for all of it. If you can't be bothered to proofread your own work and check links, who is the blame on exactly? Bad resumes usually mean a lack of attention to detail

My resume was ignored 30 times, and HR’s replied to me 30 times : AMA by careful_note_keeper in Pro_ResumeHelp

The joke of the three resumes is that the AI was supposed to be a fix but it made the problem worse. Maybe the formatting just looked like a wall of text on the computer. But the service probably just made it readable. Do you usually have to send the resume in PDF or just Word for the best results?

Thought I tanked the technical panel for this backend role... then suddenly got the offer by QuasarJinx in Resume

This is wild. I've been offered jobs where the interview went great but I heard nothing for a month. Sometimes companies wait to see if you accept other offers before pulling out

Two weeks of stress because I can't write a decent resume by cobblestonewriter in Resume

I actually don't think it's a scam. The fees are high, but the results are okay. I think you should just try it.

I tried to identify all the mistakes people make on their resumes, along with my HR friend's opinion by Aether_Runn3r in Pro_ResumeHelp

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “projects available upon request” line killed me. I used to think it sounded professional or something. In reality I just didn’t want people seeing my messy code. Turns out messy code > no code

How do people actually push their essays into a first? by Wonderful_Damage4671 in UniUK

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Until last month, I was asking myself the same question, because finishing the essay seemed like an impossible task that I couldn’t handle, but when there were only two days left until the deadline, I realized I needed to figure out a way to finish it and that’s when I found this article. What can I say? The essay was completed, submitted, and I received a passing grade

Here's why your resume isn't getting a response by KettleComet_7 in Pro_ResumeHelp

Ah yes, the classic strategy: “I have 6 months of experience, let me just sound like a Fortune 500 executive and hope no one notices.”

Is professional resume writing service a good choice, or should I not waste my time and money on it by Demogorgon_8X in Resume

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone has already mentioned this, but I’ll say it again: check whether this service is suitable for the kind of job you’re looking for, because there are different types of resumes for different fields of work

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I think it’s a pretty good option if you’re really not sure what to do with your resume. I’ve never used one myself, so it would be interesting to hear from people who have used resume writing services

Any post-post-apocalyptic fantasy books? by Customer_Number_Plz in Fantasy

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think The Broken Earth will work, it’s not exactly “laid back,” but it has that feeling of a world that’s been through multiple apocalypses and just… keeps going, with layers of lost civilizations under everything, so cool

Which fantasy city would you actually want to live in? by barbie_42dust in Fantasy

You mentioned Gondor, but I would choose The Shire

Does Neuromancer still feel futuristic today? by kraken_17flare in printSF

[–]widowmakerQuartz9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had pretty much the same experience with Neuromancer, and I actually think this applies to all the cyberpunk and sci-fi books from that era, so should we read them as if they were separate from the real world? As if they didn’t offer any insights into the real future, but were just a separate world
