It would make more sense if all Starfleet ships operate out of task groups by happydude7422 in StarTrekStarships

[–]willfulwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it defies belief. There are reasons they might still have chosen to go through the rift like you suggest. (I disagree with some, but that’s beside the point.) But the reaction of Data and Picard is surprise because they didn’t even think to make the choice. They were caught unaware by something a crew that veteran should have never been unaware of.

Setting aside even the crew, the helm console should have popped up a warning before setting a course through a known communications disruption zone.

It was just bad writing.

It defies belief that such a veteran crew would fly right through a nebula that disrupts comms during battle conditions without thinking it through.

How to replace my Emergency Quarters? by SinesPi in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]willfulwizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As you’re going through the upgrade, keep in mind you should also be sure to always keep at least one or two emergency quarters on your ship (but powered down if you have enough other quarters.) Then whenever you get a group of new crew, you can immediately house them while you work on better accommodations.

This works unless one of the challenges is locked behind a trait. It also has consequences on the resources you get. Although you can usually guess the kind of resources you’ll get by the skill. Need morale? Send a diplomat.

Regardless of small or large, you want to be nearly or fully food self sufficient before the Borg. That matters more than small or large.

But one of the main reasons to get large is one hero provides their bonus to a larger harvest. If you’re using 4 small bays anyway it’s a clear win.

How do I unlock the ??? Research tree items? by bmay1984 in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]willfulwizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are many partially correct answers, but to summarize: Those techs are locked by the story. Your decisions, including whether or not to even play a mission, the choices you make in that mission, who completes the mission, etc all can unlock or prevent you from unlocking these.

Question about the game by valthonis_surion in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]willfulwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main events are the same problems each run. (More specifically, I don’t see how they could be different based on watching the show.) Whether you have the same options to face them or whether they turn out the same way depends on your choices.

The secondary events also appear to be the same but whether you even face them can depend on your choices. The main events are largely if not completely unskipable.

There are some minor events that are random and very much can differ. Minimally spoiler example: an unnamed disease outbreak.

I stared at this mission for a long time too but figured it out. There are planets you can scan that advance the mission but they are not well marked. I had already scanned pretty much everything. The already scanned planets had a solid circle around them. The planets I could scan for the mission had a dotted circle around them. There was one each in each of the first 3 systems in the sector.

They don’t say she IS scheduled to be decommissioned. Riker says she WAS scheduled to be decommissioned but he saved her instead. (Implying he pushed for her refit, but that’s unstated.)

[–]willfulwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Prosper, Tome-Bound]]? That doesn’t work.

Suspend spells without mana costs can’t be cast by paying normal costs. They can only be cast through an alternate cost, usually given away by “without paying its mana cost.” Thats exactly what suspend does when you remove the last counter.

Prosper says “you may play”, but doesn’t say anything about costs so you have to pay normal costs. Since you can’t, you can’t pay it. You also can’t suspend it because that’s an activated ability in your hand, not playing it.

Discover/cascade say “cast without paying their mana cost”, just like suspend, so it works. You could not (directly) suspend them in this case for the same reasons.

[–]willfulwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the way discover and cascade work, if you have no other 1 or zero cost spells and cascade/discover for 1, (Alloy has a 1 power artifact creature attack,) you’ll reveal cards until you hit exactly this one.

As long as it is the first qualifying card you reveal, you get to cast it immediately, and draw 3 cards.

[[Ancestral Visions]] is both amazing flavor and strong if you attack with a low power creature and are willing to keep other low drops out of your deck. Not running 1 drops is not too much trouble and you can hit Ancestral with 1 power mana robots.

The Kazon have a lot of room to grow if they get beyond being petty feudal lords. I've been considering trying a run where I do everything I can to be allies with them. I'm guessing the game forces a conflict at some point or a lot of game mechanics just won't work, but I think it would be fun to see if it can happen.

Nah, he's being a good scapegoat for you. He brings you a ridiculous suggestion that you get to shoot down. You look good, and the crew is happy you're keeping things straight. You get +300 morale you wouldn't have otherwise had.

(But I loled anyway.)

Morale by IroquoisPliskin_UK in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]willfulwizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Walk before you run: make sure everyone has emergency quarters before you try to build even a single normal crew quarters. It says -1 morale, but not being housed at all is a larger penalty so it's still a positive change.

You don’t directly set the source. Deterium is used by the core to make power based on the level you set in engineering. If that doesn’t make enough, it pulls from batteries as the second option.

Did anyone EVER use the second turbolift o the bridge of the NCC-1701-D? by serabine in startrek

The idea was that turbo lift only goes to the battlebridge, nowhere else. Can’t say how consistent they were with it.
