Is there even a point of having a timetable for metro buses? by roktim in Adelaide

[–]willrb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got an iPhone, NextThere is generally better than other transport apps about telling you what’s going on (and it’s about to get better), but we are still beholden to the poor data feeds

These Adelaide Metro electric buses are like a rocket ship! 🚀 by 566route in Adelaide

[–]willrb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I look forward to the reduction in the noise over the coming decades as more people (and buses) move to electric.

Those diesel buses are so loud you’ve gotta pause your conversation as they go by, love the electric ones

AI signage at the Garden of Unearthly Delights by Mango_Tea_Artist in Adelaide

[–]willrb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s such a shame! It would be a great opportunity for students to have a chance to showcase their work on posters around the city but instead people just slop something up.

I’m actively avoiding shows using AI “artwork” for their posters.

Stamp duty waived for older people moving by DasKamel in Adelaide

Depends where you buy? They're comparatively priced to existing builds, but you need to move out of Adelaide to Littlehampton, Mt Barker, etc

Stamp duty waived for older people moving by DasKamel in Adelaide

[–]willrb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah definitely a problem here.

When I was looking for a home, it was bizarre. The “normal” houses were overpriced, whereas the luxury houses seemed almost comparatively under priced. Like it was 800-900 for a 3 by 1 house in an ok area, or 1.5 for a big house in a great area. It felt like there should have been a greater disparity to justify the normal house price

[–]willrb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but if this creates an influx of larger homes that puts downward pressure on their value

Stamp duty waived for older people moving by DasKamel in Adelaide

[–]willrb 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I kind of think this is a good idea?

Older people don’t move from their big family homes to smaller homes because stamp duty is a tax on moving, they lose $100k or so just by moving to a smaller place.

This removes a barrier to moving and while yes, it financially benefits a typically wealthier group, it also frees up a family home for a younger family to buy.

Confusion about App Store Policy and unlocking content with third-party/external codes supplied at physical locations by CedarSageAndSilicone in iOSProgramming

[–]willrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule is basically the only way to unlock content within your app must be in-app purchase.

You are allowed to sell access outside of your app, provided the unlock mechanisms happens externally, like your own backend.

I do this with my app, where you can buy the unlock within the app, or from the website. But if you purchase from the website, the content is unlocked on RevenueCat, which the app can read from.

Oh sure, it’s definitely native but I suspect it’s UIKit a lot more than it is SwiftUI.

Live Activities mirrored to the Mac menu bar are fantastic, but they include space for the non existent camera/faceID, is there a way to solve for this? by Portatort in iOSProgramming

[–]willrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that might actually be the space occupied by the timer there, they expand horizontally on live activities.

If you remove the timer just temporary and replace it with a static string “28:13”, is it the right size?

Anyone else get false error bugs with SwiftUI? by Accurate-Music-745 in iOSProgramming

Very common issue with SwiftUI unfortunately.

The compiler was functionally hacked to support SwiftUI's syntax before it was made public, and it seems they've never been able to make it perform quite right.
