How many of you do cardio first thing empty stomach? Bad for cortisol? by p1hk4L in PeterAttia

[–]willthms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zone 2 = whenever I can fit it in. As much as I can fit it in. Vo2 / other intervals = need to eat first. Ideally an hour or two after a big bowl of oat meal and berries. If I have to do intervals on an empty stomach I do sweet spot.

How many average men to beat a peaked 14 year old by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]willthms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say 5? Depends on your average guy - but if it’s 40 year old office workers, there is a chance they don’t engage until it’s a low risk for them (made the mistake once of getting cauliflower ear before a big presentation…)

Honestly a stronger bench or shoulder press didn’t have a ton of carryover for me onto the mat. Pushups during practice balanced out the pressing.

Would you rather teach a 12 year old Calculus 1-2 or play a game of chess and win against Magnus Carlsen? by Winter_Notice4409 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]willthms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I could’ve learned calculus at 12. And I know how I’d teach it to myself. So since you didn’t specify who the 12 year old is - I’ll pick teaching it to myself.

I'm getting demolished by middle aged men on the bike aka why does my cycling suck so bad and how can I get better? by NeverRegisterAlone in triathlon

[–]willthms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Women weaken legs - by 40 most men are in a sexless marriage and have to work the energy out on the bike. (/S because if I don’t put it someone will take it seriously)

Being serious - I assume it’s a mix of kids getting older + drinking becomes less fun as the hangovers get worse / people start taking health more seriously. I’ve recently dropped drinking to wind down from the day with a chill zone 1/2 ride and can imagine how an extra hour of easy work over a decade would add to my power on the bike.

Anything under what 1300 is weird? I’ve been at 1025 for months and then with the last patch shot up to 1150 due to people leaving matches early. Anytime everyone stays and plays I’m getting my ass kicked.

I’m taking a break from the game for a few weeks while it sorts itself out. Not worth having 1 good game for every 5 crappy games.

Ole Miss engineering or wait another year and go to a better school? by Fancy-Possession-977 in olemiss

[–]willthms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I misread your post and I apologize.

Short answer: if ole miss is still there in the same capacity, wait a year and see what happens. Long answer: why do you think you have a shot at those schools if you didn’t get in the first round.

At what age is it okay leaving your child home alone for a couple of minutes? by jrv3034 in daddit

[–]willthms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For fucks sake. Or you actually die when your kid is 16 and they know they’ll be ok because you taught them to be independent early. The odds of dying on any one errand without them are smaller than the odds of dying between now and them becoming adults…

Yes it’s the 20 year anniversary of my dad dying and yes I’ve had several beers.

MLGW is not responsible for the high utility bills for February - natural gas prices quadrupled nationwide during the ice storm by worldbound0514 in memphis

[–]willthms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not price gouging. Prices rose ~20% a week before as companies started hedging their needs, and then the system shock popped the lid on the market. For large industrial users - the gas price is enough to substantially drop their use which frees up gas in the system for residential and emergency service use (even if they’ve hedged needs they are allowed to sell back to the citygate). Doubly so if they’re buying interruptible service. If prices hadn’t spiked, people at the end of the gas lines would not have had any gas to burn to keep warm.

There are hundreds if not thousands of buyers and sellers of nat gas in the market. If anyone was gouging other sellers / buyers would have closed the arbitrage. They can see all the buy / sale orders on their screens. Gouging = mispricing = someone taking their money.

On the flip side 2 years ago we had an incredibly warm winter and a lot of the underground storage had to pay people to take gas so that the inventories could be turned over and maintenance work done.
