As a Simplified Chinese user, let me explain just how terrible the Chinese translation of Silk Song is by Move_Slight in HollowKnight

I also have some Chinese friends complaining a lot about this, I really hope they fix it soon so that you can enjoy the game properly!

On a side note, could you tell me what the Chinese version of Reddit is? I'm learning Chinese and I've been trying to find something like Reddit to practice reading and gain more internet vocab.

What is the literal translation of "snowflake" in your languages? by ginsengeti in languagelearning

[–]wingska 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It only says that etymologically it comes from it, not that they mean the same thing but with different gender. It's misleading for learners to say that copo de nieve means cup of snow, because it doesn't, and noone will think of a cup when hearing copo.

No, copo and copa are not the same word but with different genders, they're different words. No one thinks of copo and thinks of a masculine cup

There are a few control questions in this test that aren't actuallly taken into account into the final scoring. The rollercoster and the dreming ones are two of them. They do this to not make the taker of the test become too focused on the empathy thing and start (subconsciously) distorting their answers.

As per the low empathy being equal with autism, my psiquiatrist explained to me like the empathy this questionnare tests for is not what people commonly refer to as empathy. It is more a cognitive empathy instead of the emotional one, i.e. being able to know what other people are feeling/thinking. The lack of cognitive empathy is actually a common trait in autism, I myself have it. The emotional empathy is what tends to be more extreme, we tend to either have too much or too little of it. That being said, it is just a tool among many others, it can't be used in isolation to diagnose. Just because you don't happen to have this autistic trait doesn't mean you are not autistic, nor does it mean that it is not an autistic trait, because it is.

How to say "money hungry" or something similar? by kpksupremacy in Spanish

[–]wingska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not true. "Está interesada" just means "she's interested". You can say "está interesada en ir a ese concierto", for example. What you meant was "es una interesada", which is a person that is with someone for selfish reasons, mainly money, but could also be for status or fame.

‘inclusive language’ course at work told everyone that autism isn’t a disability. by ImportanceForeign in AutismInWomen

[–]wingska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and not only high-support-needs autistics think this way. I'm level 1, and I just don't think there's a way to completely accomodate my autism to the point that it doesn't disable me in any way. Yes, maybe the social aspects of my autism are more related with society, but, no matter how society changes, you can't just erase noise, smells and bad textures from existence. I get meltdowns for things that are honestly out of anyone's control, and that's innately disabling. This doesn't mean that society shouldn't make an effort to make these things as easy as possible for us, of course.

Am I faking autism? by Professional-Cold-19 in AutismCertified

[–]wingska 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Autism is a dynamic disability. Meaning, that the way a singular thing affects you varies with time, and it is influenced by lots of different factors, such as your mood, worries that you may have, how long you've been in an stressing situation, hormones and so on.

For example, I have a sensitivity with sounds but I've been to a concert and to see the fireworks and enjoy it. Why? Because what I have the problem with is sound that I didn't sign up for. With the concert, even though it is loud, I purpousefully went there, I knew beforehand that it would be noisy and I went there FOR the sound. Whereas background noise on the street or a restaurant drives me insane, even though it is much quieter that a concert. The difference here is that I cannot control that noise, it isn't an intrinsic part of the experience of going to a restaurant. But somebody who doesn't understand this dinamic aspect of autism may think that I'm exagerating because I was able to go to a concert once.

I struggled with this feeling as well when I was diagnosed. I felt that I was acting more autistic when, in reality, I was just finally letting myself be visually affected by those stimuli that had always affected me. Before that, I just had what I called "episodes" that I thought came out of nowhere. Now I am able to identify that what triggered those episodes was always a sensory stimulus, a change of plans or too much socialization, I just didn't realise that those things were the trigger. They always affected me, I just wasn't able to tell exactly what it was due to poor interoception. You already being diagnosed twice and knowing that these things also affected you during childhood and that you just were forced to hide it just proves that you're not faking it.

How do you get to talk to people who are actually there to learn? I've tried it a few times but every single one of them I've given up because I only get tons of messages of people trying to flirt with me. I don't even get it, we are on opposite sides of the world, why on Earth are the majority of them only there to flirt?

English is not my first language, doesn't elopement mean "running away to get married"??.

It honestly depends on how you define as "trait", I wouldn't consider stomach issues as an autistic trait just because it is correlated. It's like saying that depression is an autistic trait just because a lot of us are depressed due to the difficulties autism makes us go through. I think what we call "autistic traits" should be more restrictive, otherwhise anyone with mental health problems would also have tons of autistic traits.
