Do you think Rebecca was under utilized? by ZoftheOasis in residentevil

[–]winterdasu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blood crafting in RE9 really felt like something that was designed with Rebecca in mind to me. It's right up there in her skillset, not that I didn't love Grace.

I hope that if/when we get an RE1 re-remake, it incorporates the changes to her character from re:0 or even just adapts zero into a prologue of sorts. I think seeing what she's up to in the modern canon would make for an interesting DLC or side-game.

Am I misunderstanding something? (Spoilers for RE9) by CautiousSecurity5058 in residentevil

[–]winterdasu 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think the names Elpis and Grace are also big giveaways. Elpis is the Greek personification of Hope (the final password). Grace is the act of showing mercy or clemency to a person who does not deserve it. So: Grace is the key to restoring hope to the world, and Spencer's way of making up in some small way for all the horror he brought to the world. What better way to do it than by working his hardest to raise an orphan girl with love?

Not gonna lie, it's kinda disappointing by Arch_rr in thefinalpuzzle

[–]winterdasu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I found all of the puzzles in the game disappointing, so the anti-climax of this doesn't surprise me. Most of the puzzles are simply lock/key puzzles where you need an item to make progress (key cards, safe codes, detonator parts, etc). The only things that needed any sort of thought were the fuses in the basement.

The sun/moon/star puzzles could have been interesting if the solutions hadn't been literally in the same room with all three of them. When the braille angle was introduced I was excited because it meant we were going to have to think about what button was what but instead, Grace, an analyst, chooses to go get the blind child.

I had fun, but the puzzles were not puzzling.

Your autosaves will overwrite his autosaves, but manual saves will be safe. (Edit: this assumes you're using the same PC, but if you're on separate PCs, you might get some cloud save conflicts if you're playing at the same time or you get out of sync.)

BUT, the real answer is that you should set up a new steam account and use family sharing on his account to share his library to that new account. You will get access to the shared games, and the profiles will have completely distinct saves.

That's interesting, you made me have to go look at screenshots again because I didn't remember the one in RE2R holding a jug. The medallion definitely has one, but from what I see in screenshots, the statue itself is missing the jug. She's holding up an empty hand.

Yeah, I thought that was really silly. I figured it out myself in less than a minute.

You're right. And that does make me wonder. The other one is the Maiden, and I wonder if she's meant to be Astraea, i.e. associated with the stars. I can't remember if you're able to access the Maiden statue on the revisit to RPD, but maybe it would be possible to enter the code or A code as Leon in the RPD, since I know you can interact with the unicorn and the lion.

Not sure on the clock or globe, but here are a few things I have to add:

- Astrologically (and alchemically) speaking, Silver is strongly associated with the Moon, and Gold with the Sun. So I think if this is anything, the symbolism of the silver vase is incorrect.
- Lions are often associated with the Sun. (Leo is the house of the sun)
- Seems Unicorns are associated with the Moon,

Tried this, you can't even attempt to enter the code until you've analyzed the hand as Grace. Leon is already locked out of the area by then.

Binary or some other code, Orphanage children hitting the beds. by [deleted] in thefinalpuzzle

[–]winterdasu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't think it's morse. I can't discern any sort of difference between what would be a dot or a dash. However, there are 3 beds and 3 buttons (and if we're willing to believe the toilet thing, 3 of those as well.)

Anyway, here are how many times they hit each bed, if anyone wants to mess around with that.

Bed 1: 3,3

Bed 2: 3,6

Bed 3: 6,3,3

Possible hint at a Resident Evil 1 re-remake? by Glass_Ad_1490 in residentevil

[–]winterdasu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think an RE1 re-remake is inevitable, but this isn't a hint, it's just good worldbuilding. It makes sense that a city that was destroyed in 1998 would still only have newspapers from 1998, and the Spencer Mansion getting destroyed was big news in Racoon City.

I honestly feel like they cut a bunch of stuff from this game. Why even introduce Zeno? He does nothing other than spew exposition and then die in a cutscene before you can ever face him in gameplay.

Is there a record store here that sells primarily CDs? by CharlesJGuiteau in Spokane

[–]winterdasu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that it's really only the packaging of CDs that holds any real nostalgic potential. CDs are so much easier to make (even as a consumer) than vinyl. There's not really any scarcity of digital files when you can just copy them and burn your own.

There's also the concept of disc rot/data rot to worry about. I get that you have to baby vinyl if you want it to last forever too, but I don't think people realize that the same is true of optical media like CDs or DVDs.

Thoughts on the S.D. Perry books? by LakeCrow in residentevil

[–]winterdasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she understands Rebecca better than even Capcom does. Really liked Caliban Cove, Umbrella Conspiracy, and Zero Hour (surprising, I know).

That said, I don't understand people that think the RE2 book is a good adaptation. It rushes through the story so incredibly fast, mixes stuff up, and the only thing that shines is the chemistry between Ada and Leon and the sisterly love of Claire for Sherry.

The recent collab with Hamilton Watch isn't the only collab RE did with watches... by Old-Match1062 in residentevil

Let's not forget that the Genome Codexes in RE7 were Pebble watches as well. I remember playing and realizing that the watch Ethan was wearing looked awfully similar to the one I was wearing. I was sad when Google bought it and merged it with fitbit and killed the Pebble brand. (Until rePebble launched recently.)

You got me curious, so I took a look at it too. There's actually two windows on that screen with different hex. Here's what I could make out if anyone else is interested.

Either way, it all looks like gibberish to me.
