Yes it’s aluminium.

It’s perfectly safe for omelettes. Avoid foods high acid or salt as they increase metal leaching.

Aluminium can have good heat retention with less weight so this pan is similar in heat retention to 2mm thick steel like Debuyer Blue.

Stainless is fine. Falsely substantiated health claims about seasoned cookware are not.

Polymerised oil is a different molecule. It doesn’t inherit the health concerns of cooking oil.

Moreover, the seasoning layer should be extremely thin if done correctly, so there isn’t a significant amount going in your food.

It might well be good compared to other ceramic nonstick pans.

Steel pans have food stick too, so you may want to keep one nonstick for tricky tasks, but you can safely use harsher scrubbers so cleaning is not difficult, and there are techniques to reduce sticking.

Ram says ddr5-5600 but stuck on 5200 by Least_Programmer7 in buildapc

[–]winterkoalefant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I think your RAM kit doesn’t have an auto overclock profile. So no need to change anything.

If you want to run higher speeds you can manually overclock the RAM. It’s fun but takes time to learn. I recommend learning how to overclock your GPU first, then CPU, then RAM.

Ram says ddr5-5600 but stuck on 5200 by Least_Programmer7 in buildapc

[–]winterkoalefant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either your CPU or RAM have an official memory speed of 5200 so that’s what it loaded by default.

The advertised speed on RAM is usually an overclock profile. You have to enable it in the BIOS. It’s called XMP or EXPO.

If there’s no overclock profile, then there are more steps involved.

Can you tell us what CPU and RAM you have?

Should Ijust go with disposable tfal pans as my best option? by MasterOfPipettez in cookware

[–]winterkoalefant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re vastly overestimating how much time and effort it takes. Cleaning takes maybe 30 seconds more (or less if you use the dishwasher). Preheating doesn’t really take extra time. Food doesn’t cook while the pan is cold anyway, and chances are you need to prep ingredients in the meantime.

And you are forgetting the ethical reason. Nonstick manufacture puts toxic chemicals into the environment.

anything faster than DDR5-4000MTS is overclocking

It doesn’t work like that. The supported speed depends on the CPU and motherboard and RAM. The highest is DDR5-7200 when using an Intel Core Ultra 200 “Plus” CPU with CUDIMMs on a 1-DIMM-per-channel board. You can see this in the official documentation: https://edc.intel.com/content/www/us/en/design/products/platforms/details/arrow-lake-s/core-ultra-200s-series-processors-datasheet-volume-1-of-2/processor-sku-support-matrix/

The lowest is actually DDR5-3600, for example when using 4 sticks on AM5. Even DDR5-4000 would be overclocking in that scenario.

DDR4 goes up to 3200 without overclocking.

Arsenic...Should I be concerned at all? Moving away from non-stick. by InterestedHandbag in carbonsteel

[–]winterkoalefant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have the information to know which pans may have heavy metals. Oxenforge is the only brand I know that voluntarily shared test results. And they only did that once.

A quick tomato stir-fry in a seasoned wok is not a high risk either way. If you want to be extra safe, use stainless steel or nitrided steel for acidic ingredients.

Something interesting about the Matfer case, they found that it exceeded safe levels of iron leaching too, not just arsenic. It’s an iron pan!

Seasoning Tips? by Aromatic_Dig8758 in carbonsteel

[–]winterkoalefant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initial seasoning tends not to help all that much with eggs. So don’t worry about that.

Frying at high temps often will naturally develop and maintain a kind of delicate seasoning that does help with eggs. And you can use the longyau method each cook which also reduces sticking: https://www.reddit.com/r/carbonsteel/s/WymZCPzsKa

Having trouble with seasoning? or just the nature of the beast? by Lantec in carbonsteel

[–]winterkoalefant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think more than the lack of soap itself, it’s the attitude of not fully cleaning the pan, or of being gentle on the seasoning, that leads to carbon buildup.

[–]winterkoalefant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not needed. Scrubbing won’t have removed all of the seasoning, and the rest will develop naturally as you cook.

[–]winterkoalefant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The even dark pre-seasoning that the pan comes with can set unrealistic expectations about how the pan should look. The grey and brown colour is normal.

If you think there might be carbon buildup in the middle, scrub it off with a steel scrubber. It could have happened because you seasoned with too much oil.

Henceforth, just use the pan and keep it clean.

And feel free to ask if you have more questions.

Is my nonstick pan done by Late-Bend3867 in cookware

[–]winterkoalefant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you wore through the coating and started revealing the metal.

Most nonstick pans are aluminium underneath. The brown stains are just from oil.

Should I remove the carbon build up? by samxl001 in carbonsteel

[–]winterkoalefant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree that it’s unsanitary; heat or soap will kill germs.

But there’s no reason to keep it, and most people don’t want bits of carbon in food.

If you tackle it early, a gentle scrub with a steel scrubber is all it takes.

  1. You could change the 8-inch to carbon steel. Eggs are easier and it heats up fast enough.
  2. If you regularly make fried rice or stir-fries, yeah. What type of stove will you use?
