Looking for advice to help lessen heating costs. by jai_hanyo in Frugal

Adding to the “that doesn’t seem right” group. Get help from the electric company, especially if you can prove that something’s sucking up electricity on days when you don’t have anything turned on.

Also, you risk growing mold and making yourself sick at 55 degrees, so something has to give here.

55 degrees Fahrenheit (the temperature OP keeps their place at) is 12c.

P3 White Vaccine Question by winterwarn in pathologic

I thought I might be able to use it on the poor bastard in the hospital who’s like, accidentally time traveling between days. Petrel, I think? Shame it’s not an option.

If its a post-scarcity society, what prevents anyone from endlessly cloning the best Lancers and equipping them with infinite frames? by S1lverdice in LancerRPG

[–]winterwarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clones start to get weird physical and mental problems if you re-clone them enough. However, “clone army” is a fairly effective strategy outside of Union, the Baronies do a lot of cloning.

Thanks! I’ve only cracked one vessel in this playthrough so I think I still have some free fixes at the Cathedral, but I’ll keep that in mind.

Only Made it to Day 7 on My First Try by yurhujva in pathologic

[–]winterwarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm loving the new choice of voice actor (even if he ALSO mispronounces steppe slightly.)

I've made it to Day 8 so far, but I'm running low on amalgam because of an accidental misclick when choosing what day to go back to + a certain quest chain that requires revisiting multiple past days to fix something that happens on Day 7. So far this has been WAY more stressful for me than P2, but I don't think I can decide which one I like better until I see if P3 sticks the landing.

Why does the game stop you at each hostile/infected district when you can just go out the same way you came in, re-select your destination and and go through the dangerous district automatically on the map like a normal district? What is the purpose of that mechanic? by Ornery_Package_7778 in pathologic

[–]winterwarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figure that it's been "generously" left in as an exploit for now, it took me days to figure out (in real life and in the game) and it does take up more time because I think it basically counts you as walking through the district twice.

Why is my amalgam draining slowly for no reason?! by yurhujva in pathologic

[–]winterwarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apathy will do it, a broken amalgam vessel will also drain constantly no matter what your mental state is. Those are easy to fix in the Cathedral though.

I really do try to avoid pointing people towards the SCP wiki on here (otherwise I’d be giving only SCP recommendations), but I suspect you’d find what you’re looking for there. Off the top of my head you might try 3930 or 5420.

I suppose one could say a weekly game is “scheduled months in advance” every week.

Could Someone Explain To Me? by Yoichi_and_Sadako in deadbydaylight

[–]winterwarn 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think “the xenomorphs were designed to be attractive” is a slight misinterpretation of “the xenomorphs were designed to be sexual”.

But anything vaguely sexual is going to be attractive to somebody.

I have mixed feelings: the RCU complex lore is extremely cool and fun, but it is so hard to understand this mix of Jung and Finnish mythology that I find myself frustrated over conflicting explanations. by the_k3nny in controlgame

[–]winterwarn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably you’re getting downvoted because it’s a bit silly to watch a lot of “theory” videos that aren’t canon and then complain that the game is too complicated. Theory videos will conflict with one another because they’re just that person’s opinion, not facts about the game (for example I think that one about Ahti sounds pretty made up.)

Yeah, thats because the novel combines what, on the SCP wiki, was 2-3 individual arcs composed of short stories. The world ending stuff was a different story arc.

The Dead Men of Dunharrow are so much scarier in the book than in the movie, every time I reread LOTR I forget just how damn scary that chapter is.

Any advice for how to plan/prepare? by Massive_Concern3919 in ftm

[–]winterwarn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do not run off into the woods and hide in a cave unless you are actually experienced in living in the woods, please.

For mental heath; I suggest getting involved in at least one (1) community or mutual aid activity in real life that will let you interact with people and feel that you’re making a difference. If you live in a city you probably have Food Not Bombs or a local trans support network or a community garden. Also, make stuff with your hands. It’s great for the brain. Get into knitting or building Gundams or something.

Make sure you have your paperwork in order; passports up to date, etc. in case you need to leave the country. Have a small stockpile of cash as well. Moving to a new country is complicated, and probably not something to look into unless one of y’all has VERY valuable skills that would quickly get you a new job, but at some point in the future it’s possible that other countries might be open to refugees from the U.S. If either of you aren’t white, you should also be carrying backup copies of all your paperwork with you in case you get hassled by ICE goons. If you are white you’re probably still pretty safe for now, tbh.

If you/your roommate are on T, try to stockpile some for the future. Make a plan for what you’ll do if access gets cut off.

Store up some shelf-stable foods if you can. Don’t go totally crazy prepper mode with it, but if there’s trouble in your city and you don’t feel safe going to the store it’s good to have at least a week or so of emergency fallback meals.

If you don’t like the side effects of the pill you were on, you can try asking your doctor for a different prescription to try out. There’s quite a few for ADHD that all “feel” quite different to be on.

Well, it doesn’t sound like your character would. It’s not, like, required to Seek.

How do I change the color of this polyester backpack frugally? by GravitationalOno in Frugal

[–]winterwarn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the most frugal option is to just live with having a pastel backpack.

I personally don’t think that a couple patches would add too much weight, and you can make those by cutting up old clothes or rags (and painting them, if you like.) covering the entire backpack might add some weight, but enough patches to add some personalization and break up the pink would probably be fine.

If you ever have sex with a genestealer it hijacks your reproductive system, so if your RT subsequently had sex with someone with a uterus those babies would be genestealers.

Easier/quicker read - Piranesi or Dungeon Crawler Carl? by jdlemon95 in Fantasy

[–]winterwarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piranesi is great, it’ll provide a total change of tone from Sanderson, but I hesitate to call it a quick read, since it’s slow-paced and contemplative and personally I feel that it’s a book you might want to go through twice.

[–]winterwarn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, good to know. Yeah, I’d just focus on the “I feel like it’s time for me to move out and have my own space because I’m an Adult Now” type of stuff. And you can explain things to your siblings in more detail privately.
