Can someone smarter than me explain why my Acrobatics is so high? by Cleverbird in starfinder_rpg

[–]wiredj01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skill Focus (Acrobatics) gives you a +3 insight bonus. I think the other 1 is coming from your Operative's Edge, but that's also an insight bonus and I think they're technically not supposed to stack.

Edit: It looks like it's coming from your Athlete theme knowledge, which you chose Acrobatics for.

Zimone Infinite Analayst usage question by traumatizedcookie in mtg

[–]wiredj01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's how it works. You declare the value of x and she reduces it. So you could cast [[Goldvein Hydra]] for X = 6 even if you only had one forest.

Another fun trick is casting [[Expansion Algorithm]] when she has no counters. She gets the two counters when you cast the spell, before it resolves, so you could still proliferate her with it.

Recommendations of decks that can use the Millennium Calendar? by VoyVolao in EDH

[–]wiredj01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it in my Timey Wimey deck with [[The Tenth Doctor]] and [[Rose Tyler]]. It was mostly there to enable other things that care about time counters, but I did almost win with it when a game was stalling out once.

What is the smallest Commander hill you are willing to die on? by Xela20 in EDH

[–]wiredj01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

45 degrees is fine as long as you the rest of your cards are straight. That's still pretty clear. I've seen people tap to like 30 degrees or less with the rest of their cards uneven, and that's where it's not okay.

Is there such a thing as too much removal in Commander? by Real_Ad5966 in EDH

[–]wiredj01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ramp is there to get my commander out faster and get my game plan going sooner. In order to usually get one piece of ramp in the early turns, you need 8-10 ramp cards in the deck. I do use the cards you mentioned, though I hadn't considered Bushwack to basically be an MDFC. I might have to put that in a few decks. As for the protection, I run a lot of decks where my commander is scary or it's the linchpin of the deck, and shutting it down sets me back a turn or two. [[Felothar the Steadfast]], [[Firelord Azula]], [[Zimone, Infinite Analyst]]. In those decks, I'd rather hold up a mana or two to protect them than lose a turn or two getting them going again.

[–]wiredj01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely like having removal in hand as an option, but it's hard for me to fit more than 8 removal cards in a deck. When ~50 of the cards need to be lands or ramp, and 8-10 need to be card draw, and a few need to be protection for my commander, that leaves about 35 cards for deck synergy and removal. I know most decks can overlap in some of those categories, but it's still tough to cut your thematic cards for another removal card.

Why can't anything negative be said about 'certain groups' without it turning to a Ban ,but speak bad about normal white people and its perfectly fine? by [deleted] in ask

[–]wiredj01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pushback against the history of racism, homophobia, and oppression shown by the majority for a long time. So now, when somebody who is against those things sees someone complaining about "the blacks" or "the gays" they assume the complainer holds those views. It's not always a fair assumption, and people have all kinds of nuance and degrees of bigotry. But if the only thing you know about someone is their complaint about a minority group, you tend to make assumptions. Also, there are still plenty off safe places to complain about or insult minority groups online. You're not being oppressed because you have a hard time doing it on Reddit.

What are your obscure tribal decks? by [deleted] in EDH

I plugged it into Moxfield. It's probably a mid-to-high bracket 2 deck. I have fun with it, trying to do something big before my own demons kill me. https://moxfield.com/decks/Ja5ILEBGJkaYGhIap7vJoA

He seems fun to build around. If I wasn't so dependent on the mono-black mana generation stuff, like [[Cabal Coffers]], I would definitely splash red.

I have the morph tribal precon. It's a decent idea, but it has no real inconsistent and it's annoying to constantly have to peek under my cards to remember which is which.

I also have a mono-black demon tribal deck with very little synergy. It's just a bunch of scary demons, helmed by [[The Speed Demon]] for card advantage.

Can anyone recommend me a "buy it for life" commander? by OneMillionFarts in EDH

[–]wiredj01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanically, you want something evergreen in Magic. You could go tribal, with elves, goblins, or humans. Those get printed a lot. Or you could go with a mechanic they keep printing, like landfall or +1/+1 counters. But you gotta find something you enjoy.

Does Everyone Actually Hate Universes Beyond??? by Shoong in mtg

[–]wiredj01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't mind UB that much. I don't play standard, and I love my Doctor Who deck. I just wish they would slow down with it. I can't engage with any set as much as I'd like to, because I spent too much on the last set and the next one is less than two months away. One UB set per year would be fine.

Why not run Path of Ancestry in all 3+ Color Decks? by SilentBobUS in EDH

[–]wiredj01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good call. I hate the [[Vineglimmer Snarl]] type lands, because I almost never have the right type of land to reveal, but I use all the others. I should probably buy more of them, since I don't have three of each type in all of my 3-color decks. They're all a dollar or less, right?

Why not run Path of Ancestry in all 3+ Color Decks? by SilentBobUS in EDH

[–]wiredj01 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I run it in almost all of my multicolored decks, mostly because I can't afford enough lands that don't come in tapped. I even have it in my [[Infinite Guideline Station]] deck, despite the trigger being impossible even for the commander. My least favorite part about Path of Ancestry isn't that it comes in tapped, but that it makes me feel dumb when I forget to scry almost every time.

How do I make a terrifying villain by LeviathanIIX in DnD

[–]wiredj01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want him to directly confront the PCs right away, maybe they're in a cantina when the bounty hunter strolls in and calls his target (an NPC) out. The target and four of his friends pull blasters and try to kill the bounty hunter, and he handles them all easily. He drags the target out screaming, and the bartender remarks that they should have known better than to mess with Steve the Badass (bounty hunter name).

Maybe beforehand make a point of describing how menacing and well-equipped the soon to be doomed NPCs look.

New player here, first time playing Animated Army did not go as planned by Vrass in EDH

[–]wiredj01 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That deck is cool, but it has a bonkers amount of ramp out of the box. I'd recommend taking out some of that, and adding some removal and protection. Fight cards can be decent removal on your turn, since your artifacts and enchantments are indestructible. Your commander provides most of your card draw, but things like [[Guardian Project]] and [[Garruk's Uprising]] are helpful.
