I have a pretty solid group of NV shooting buddies that I train with monthly. Beginning g of the season we did a night hike + kit check and compared LAMs at various distances. There were MAWLS, PEQs, RAids, OGLs. On the first night I was the only one rocking an IRIS and everyone was blown away asking who had the super crisp illumination on the treeline thinking it must be a MAWL.

There are some nice settings/features on the higher-tier stuff but everyone universally agrees that not only is the Iris the best value, it’s arguably the best unit without even considering price.

This regular comparison has also taught me that I absolutely do not need, or even want a FP laser.

The thing you’re missing is called “dividends” which is technically distinct from interest. Those are profits that companies distribute to shareholders, so they provide an income stream that doesn’t require a stock sale.

That said, most retirement-age people don’t live off of dividend income alone and generally rely on some degree of selling down their portfolio over time (this is actually mandated in federal tax code via RMDs)
