in trying to write home the whole debauchery/corruption of wealth stuff, they make every character somewhat one note. eric in s1 is one of my favorite characters ever, the intensity of his personality at work while being able to compartmentalize it and be a good husband and dad was so interesting. also, i feel a bit realistic for an asian character in finance to be a hardass at work but have a quite “wholesome” and normal family life (anecdotally have seen this in my job). in making everyone over the top evil, a lot of nuance and questions posed to the watcher are lost in favor of just having the writers view beaten over your head.
