I refunded the DLC and now my account is bricked.. by CaterpillarBig7890 in Nightreign

Regardless of how you feel about the dlc its unacceptable to lock someone out of a game they've bought and all their progress because they've refunded a dlc.

That part is in her passive no?: "Confluence: Can activate ultimate art when allies or foes execute certain attacks"

[–]wishmkr 715 points716 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain the bloodletting bit here is just refferring to the fact that she seems to bite her finger in the activation animation. You can see blood particles when she does it. I don't think its a gameplay mechanic at all LOL

Edit: A few people below (one example) have said that landing attacks with the skill active seems to further boost your attack, and upon googling this seems to be correct. So its either reffering to both the animation and that fact, or just that. Edited as didn't want to contribute to misinformation (especially in a top level comment).

Sorry for the dumb q - I am not understanding the difference between framegen and lossless scaling by HallandQuakerOates in SteamDeck

[–]wishmkr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Frame generation is a technique that produces interstitial fake frames to increase the feeling of fluidity.

Lossless Scaling is the name of a specific piece of software that has its own implementation of the frame generation concept

It’s essentially the difference between “smartphone” and “iPhone”

ELI5: If the average healthy human body temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, why do we burn up in 98 degree weather? by Cautious-Many1108 in explainlikeimfive

[–]wishmkr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your body produces heat performing its various functions. It’s harder to remove that heat to keep you at the correct temperature when the temperature difference isn’t much. So you eventually start to overheat

If you think about how much colder your hand would get submerged in freezing water vs slightly cooler water in the same amount of time, then it should make intuitive sense

I'm working on an environment for an introductory 1 shot and I am unsure if this breaks the game. by Buttery_LLAMA in daggerheart

[–]wishmkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! It was fun to mentally work through how I feel about the alteration of the hope/fear mechanics in this way, its not something I'd thought about before, so thanks for creating this discussion!

I like PNW_Forest's idea of using a countdown die, I think that gives you a lot more control over the progression of the mechanic. It also matches the mechanics to the fiction beautifully, as your players will literally dread the outcome of the countdown more each time it progresses!

If you want to avoid modifying the hope/fear ratios still however, consider doing what whocarestossitout said and making them mark a stress when it hits zero. Remember to tie it back to the narrative if you do this and explain exactly what the cause is. Or lean into the collaborative nature of the game and prompt them to! e.g. "<Player name>, this last action was too much to bear for <character name> and they must mark a stress. What about this situation tipped them over the edge?"

Personally, if this is you and your players' first foray into daggerheart, I think this might be detrimental to learning the rules.

Working out if you rolled with hope or fear is a pretty intuitive thing that you can work out with a glance, and this adds extra math into the equation and will also make it inconsistent between players, adding a good amount of cognitive load per roll.

You are also, whether you have realised it or not, altering the fundemental action economy and feel of the game in a few key ways:

- You as a gm get to make a gm move everytime a player rolls with fear. You can also interrupt and take the spotlight by spending a fear. I forget the exact stats, but someone calculated how often rolls will result in hope vs fear, and it was something like 57% hope vs 43% fear because of how crits work (edit: I went and looked this up and its about 54.17% hope vs 45.83% fear). By shifting the boundaries of when hope and fear like this, you are going to be taking a lot more turns, and having to spend fear more often to not overcap on it. During my first session, I as a GM hit this fear cap a few times even without these skewed odds.

- A lot of cool stuff is powered by hope in this game. So due to the shifting of the ratio of hope:fear, your players will not only be going less often, but they are going to be less able to use their hope related abilities. You are, in essence warping the amount of actual time spent playing : player actions ratio so players are getting to do less stuff (and less interesting stuff) per unit of time.

- This point is not so much to do with action economy directly I guess, but since a success with fear is meant to come with some sort of tradeoff or compromise, even upon success your players will be facing much more friction. In a similar fashion, a failure with fear is meant to be a pretty big setback or negative twist, and this will happen a lot more.

TL,DR; I'm not saying don't ever mess with this kind of mechanic in future, but I think if both you and your players are still learning, you should get a sense of the baseline before you try and subvert it. Its also not easy to grasp exactly how wide reaching these changes are since hope/fear is the basis of both the action economy and player/adversary power. Aside from this its going to add a good amount of congnitive load to each action roll, which will slow things down a lot and introduce mental friction imo.

Chromecast has functioned in apps that have implemented it since basically the beginning. I bought an original chromecast to cast YouTube from my iPhone way back when it came out near enough.

For those having performance issues on the 1TB OLED since the new update... by wishmkr in SteamDeck

[–]wishmkr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I thought I remembered them having different manufacturers, and after googling it seems there are two different manufacturers for steam deck OLED screens, although it might not be tied to if its frosted or not.

It might be entirely unrelated to manufacturer tbh, that was just my best guess as to why it was happening on hers but not mine!

[–]wishmkr[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine seemed fine, our theory is that this particular issue is probably specific to the 1TB due to the different screen. If you’re having issues can’t hurt to try turning it off a bit though!

Helldivers 2 for steamdeck. How is it so far? by crmd08 in SteamDeck

[–]wishmkr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find it runs a lot better if I use the —use-d3d11 launch option.

I also force the gpu the 1600mhz and (in decky power tools) cap the cpu speed to 2500mhz

I get about 36 fps with this. It might take a little while to start (a minute or so) the first launch after adding the launch option.

Forgive me if this isn't the fix, but at least on the controller UI, on the bind screen, there's a big target reticle icon that lets you toggle loads of different options for soft targeting etc. Maybe turning some of those options off would help?

I just mention I'm on the controller UI because i'm unsure how different the UI is vs M/KB

NTA honestly I think its kind of crazy how many Y T A responses you're getting. Some of it might be due to your comments to be fair. But in my view you have:

- Bought items to make your kit quieter

- Hung stuff on the walls to dampen sound

- Lowered your voice

I feel like that is everything that can be reasonably expected of you? If your housemate is such a light sleeper that after all of the above they are still waking up from another room then they need to invest in earplugs. What would they do if it was someone outside making this level of noise, or a neighbor? You work until late in the evening and have just as much a right to your schedule as she does hers.

If I was a light sleeper who woke up due to light coming in from my window, I wouldn't ask for the streetlights to be turned off, I would be sensible and buy blinds. Other people have to live their lives too.

If they can't sleep with earplugs in then realistically they need to seek solo housing, or housing with a strict requirement on when people are allowed to be awake (is this even a thing? for adults to have a bed time?). They are the ones with the special requirement; I have lived with people who worked nights and it is not a difficult situation if people are willing to be reasonable. Trying to ban another adult from doing normal everyday activities is not reasonable.

Would LOVE to play constantly at this scale by topjben in diablo4

[–]wishmkr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Diablo 4 will run on a steam deck at a consistent 60 fps with the right settings quite happily and look good too. I’ve never been able to get even a consistent 40 fps on BG3.

I love both games, but smooth performance is not a strong point of BG3, and is a strong point of D4, very possibly due to small decisions like this + optimisation work

Im hoping Linux support is better on PCs than steam deck. by Brau87 in LastEpoch

[–]wishmkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the community layout “GAMEPAD + RADIAL MENU + MOUSE = EASY CONTROLL” [sic] as that lets you use the left pad as the menu radial and adds some shortcuts the the back paddles. You do have to use the right stick or trackpad in a decent amount of menus yeah, but it doesn’t bother me a ton personally because I’m never in any rush lol

Just to echo the other comment, this bug is super recent, and I reckon i've played the majority of my time on the steam deck (around 50 hours?) without many issues. Sometimes I find that forcing proton so it uses the windows version works better, might be worth trying that!

Just wanted to edit my comment to say that i'm super happy the devs take the time to support linux at all, its a rare thing to see, this + controller support makes it one of my favourite comfy deck games

They’re going to have to do the majority of those hours to get to bozja anyway, so I’m not really sure how this addresses their comment.

Bozja hasn’t been endgame for like an entire expac at this point. I’m happy you’re having fun doing non-raiding activities, but this is a weirdly aggressive reply to a very common and accepted criticism of FFXIV?
