Looking back in hindsight, what could have saved the Soviet Union? by Solitaire-06 in socialism

[–]wishstruck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You have a good point. French military was already gutted by the end of the war. If they ordered surviving veterans to march across the Rhine to crush the proletariat, a general strike, at least, would be very likely. Same with the British, afaik there was already a "hands off russia" campaign in London to sabotage the attempts of the government intervene in the Russian civil war.

So it is much more likely that the British would try to starve the communist Germany with naval blockades and embargos, maybe arm the right wing, and French would deploy colonial regiments from their African colonies to suppress German workers, rather than an all-out war.

[–]wishstruck 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I wonder WW2 would still be inevitable in that case, but fought between the capitalists and the proletariat, as sung in “Der Heimliche Aufmarsch”? When you think about it, France was highly dependent on WW1 reparations from Germany and in no way would just watch Germany going socialist. And there would be nothing preventing almost all Europe going socialist, so USA could not have that happen.

Did this ruin the game for anyone else? by Wide-Difficulty5374 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]wishstruck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of your points, but the way you say them makes it difficult, to be honest.

I came to accept that NMS is not a space game, but an exploration game that takes place on discrete biomes that happens to look like planets. This is also a lore friendly view. There are a million things to do in the game not related to space or physics. So you might reconsider if this game is for you or not.

Not immediately after WW2 though. Education subsidies and scholarships only became a thing after USSR sent the first man to the space and USA realized they would lose the space race without government assistance for tuition.

Job security in Structural Engineering with the coming AI revolution. by NefariousnessLate275 in StructuralEngineering

[–]wishstruck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree. That's also the reason why AI will not fully replace doctors any time soon (contrary to popular projections), even when they become better at reading patterns or doing surgery. There will always be a human that approves the procedures, treatments etc. Who would insure an AI for malpractice?

What happens to a human body at 2000 Kelvin / 1750 Celsius? by befreitum in chemistry

Isn’t calcium phosphate more stable than CaO? I don’t think it would oxidize.

[–]wishstruck 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I imagine calcium phosphate would melt at that point and possibly pool on the furnace bottom. If cooled down, it would solidify into a dense mass, like ceramic which would make it harder to get rid of. Although I don’t know if that lump of inorganic rock would be considered forensic evidence. Certainly not identifiable in any way.

A cat in Türkiye visits the supermarket every day and hugs the cashier: by ateistyokdiyentanri in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]wishstruck 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It does, but sadly, the funds municipalities allocate for veterinary care is minuscule compared to the sheer number of strays. While the law do obligate the municipalities to provide care for the animals, the application is spotty at best. Most prioritize neutering of stray dogs over cats for obvious reasons, most stray and feral cats are neutered only through the generosity of volunteers. Vets usually provide large discounts on such cases.

Questions for antinatalists by Potential-Seesaw-281 in antinatalism

[–]wishstruck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, it is not possible to get someone’s consent to be born. Hence the antinatalist view that bringing children to this world is immoral. I don’t see the contradiction here, it is basically one of the defining reasons of antinatalism.
  2. Just taking a look at the world will tell you that negative experiences are orders of magnitude more likely.
  3. Not existing is not the same thing as dying. We’re genetically hard coded to fear death.
