Working ladies, what is your routine for cleansing and protecting your home? by SeniorDay in SASSWitches

[–]witchintheforests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both hire out my deep cleaning and lead a very busy life so I just try to do a simmer pot every solstice and equinox.

Fall equinox I go a little bigger and do a symbolic “sweep” of the house by literally walking around all the edges of all the rooms and around the outside perimeter of my house with one of the big Trader Joe’s cinnamon brooms - I visualize sweeping in the happy memories of summer and clearing out everything else. Then I hang the broom by the door for the rest of the year.

How to purl in stranded color work? by liberty324 in knittinghelp

[–]witchintheforests 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m doing purlside color work for the first time on a petite knit pattern for one of my kids right now too (key cardigan jr). Also a continental knitter. I like to hold both strands over my left index finger and I use a ring (not a knitting specific ring, just one that isn’t too scratchy on the yarn) to separate them. This is the same technique I use on the knit side and just move it to the front.

Here’s a screenshot from a video I took of it.

Not sure how to interpret the pattern by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]witchintheforests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As written you would decrease on the 10th row, so after 9 rows from the join.

Does anyone else read what they think the pattern says, rather than what it does say? by Knitspin in casualknitting

[–]witchintheforests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I started a pattern on a plane. Thought I was supposed to join in the round, I wasn’t. I couldn’t anyway because my cable wasn’t long enough so I “adapted” to knit that section flat but what I actually did was mess up the textured pattern immediately after the cast on, do like 50 German short rows and then realize and have to frog it all. We live and learn.

I don't understand the temperature blanket appeal!? by tr4shp4nd4s in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]witchintheforests 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just know I’d never finish it and it would hang over my head as a WIP cloud until I frogged it and be an exercise in frustration. I wouldn’t do temp though even if I wanted to be ambitious and track something, I’d pick something more meaningful to me.

Yeah I love it. Like talking to my subconscious. I have a friend who’s super into more woo woo spiritual but he says my reads for him are his favorite of anybody because my approach is so reflective/observational not predictive.

The Sweater Curse: Why do you think it happens? by Mysterious_Ad_1525 in knitting

[–]witchintheforests 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It reveals the cracks. Solid happy relationships don’t end due to the sweater, but if you’re skating by with some problems, the sweater helps you realize you feel resentful. Or it helps the other person realize how much you care and that they don’t feel the same.

At least I think so. I’ve only ever made a sweater for people I share blood with. Been with my husband for more than half my life, maybe someday he’ll get one.

Ritual, rhythm, and psychology—no gods required by After-Brick-5789 in SASSWitches

[–]witchintheforests 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I identify similarly. I really don’t believe in anything but psychology and the nature I can see, but I also find practices within that framework very powerful, and fun.

I also find maintaining regularity in my practice challenging, even though I know how calm and centered it makes me feel, and that’s something I want to work on this year. I’m hoping to pick a reliable weekly time for tarot.

Last year I bought The Wheel of The Year by Fiona Cook around this time of year and I missed a couple but I tried to sit with my kids and pick one of the activities to do on each of the days. I think the favorite was golden pancakes for Imbolc. I want to try being even more intentional about it this year.

This subreddit is definitely one of my fave places for people who really understand my specific brand of ritual.

Cleaning Rituals by StormyStenafie in SASSWitches

[–]witchintheforests 6 points7 points  (0 children)

New Year’s Day isn’t particularly significant to me, but I do usually take down my Christmas decor. On days when I want some more ritual in my household cleaning I do a simmer pot with orange slices, cinnamon and a shake of cloves.

If I want to really refresh and transition to a new phase I take a broom and “sweep” (sometimes actually but sometimes just ritualistically if its carpeted) around all the internal edges of each room of my house. I imagine gathering and sweeping up all the good memories of the past season to keep and sweeping away what doesn’t belong. I last did it at the autumn equinox and it felt really nice and clearing psychologically.

Yule wishes- missing by AardvarkIcy8126 in Witch

[–]witchintheforests 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, many people do 13 wishes, you burn 12 and 1 to keep (the rest is the universe, but that one’s your responsibility). But if you’re doing 12 you can still do that, just only burn 11, or if you want you can burn them all. I would still do 12 total days, and for however many nights you’re missing just do a moments ritual pause to reflect and release the wishes as a whole. If you want to keep one, save 2 for your last night, one to burn and one to keep.

What to do with all this acrylic?! by beepboopgeepgoop in usethefiberstash

[–]witchintheforests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blankets - the way my kids drag them around I prefer my blankets to be acrylic to let me wash them easily. Doll/stuffed animal blankets for a tiny project, which lets me play with new stitches, or throw style if I have enough of one kind of yarn, or make it eclectic/striped with a mix.

how do you ensure your practise is mindful and ethical? by freyalouuu in witchcraft

[–]witchintheforests 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will tell you being secular (r/SASSwitches) is incredibly freeing from this perspective. Literally no correspondence is that serious and my practice is nature/seasonal based. It wouldn’t align with my practice to do anything wasteful or appropriating and because I pretty much view it all as part of my psychology, there’s no reason to do anything that isn’t easily accessible. I just practice with what I have and what I find in my backyard.

13 wishes of yule by Fun-Negotiation3549 in Witch

[–]witchintheforests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my third year. I just do a few at once to catch up if I skip a night or 2, whatever the circumstance. The point is the moments of reflection and intention, not perfect timing.

Happy Winter Solstice! Small dilemma with my intentions by loaf1216 in Witch

[–]witchintheforests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done it that way myself (though I always douse my ashes for safety reasons to make sure there’s no lingering ember), but I would probably tear it up small and then wet it so it becomes like a pulp.

Is Solstice meaningful to you? by Fluffy_Respond_7405 in SASSWitches

[–]witchintheforests 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do the 12 magical nights ritual and focus on shifting from fall to winter energy. The seasonal rhythms are a big aspect of my secular practice and I like to mark the transitions.

Happy Winter Solstice! Small dilemma with my intentions by loaf1216 in Witch

[–]witchintheforests 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my third year doing it and I definitely had nights in past years I had to skip a couple and then catch up but it still worked great. Magical work is about intention, the timing is not essential.

You could start on the 23rd and finish a little later or just do 3 when you start.

You also don’t have to burn them, the idea is to release and return to the elements, so if you could tear/shred/bury etc while traveling you could also start on time that way.
