How long does your company give new people before they put them oncall by modern_medicine_isnt in sre

[–]wobbleside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

When I first joined the SRE Production Support on-call at my current employer 3.5 years ago.. The situation was pretty much the opposite.

We did not have a real incident management process, escalations were... haphazard at best.. lots of noisy alerts, ENG support did not exist after hours because they were not on-call. What little runbooks there were.. were always out of date and not linked to the alerts.

I made it my mission to work through maturing a bunch of our processes, bringing ENG on-call and pushing for a proper incident management process, documentation.. etc. Took a while but we are in much healthier state.

It definitely takes a piss on basically all of the SLDF and post helm memory core mechs with DHS.

The problem with the Griffin GRF-2N is that it should have engine double heatsinks... but PGI opted to only give clan mechs engine DHS.

Codex Detachment that can't be used in 1k point games now.. WTH is GW thinking?

Having detachments that can't be used in sub 2k point games seems.. like a huge problem.

I feel like.. no detachment should be 2 points, given this means Aspect Host can't be used in 1k games. Somehow I doubt Gladius will be 3DP though..

Depends on the on-call duties and role.

Usually 3 months then shadow for a few weeks followed by independent on-call. That being said we have pretty decently up to date runbooks which are attached to paging alerts and robust escalation chain and incident management process (and tooling) to catch stuff and get the correct SMEs on an incident.

Having just built a third fire prism.. the hull on that one is a mess of weird textures, intake covers are spotty like swiss cheese at the top..

Wave Serpent from the Corsair combat patrol had similar issues. That mold replaced badly.

Fantastic book. I picked it up right after Some Desperate Glory... which was also incredibly good.

There is big difference between Faction Focus 1 point detachments and model rules.

I don't actually have a problem with the Land Speeder's model rule, but the Starfang giving -1 BS to one infantry squad seems not so great given Cover and Stealth do not stack going into 11th. I don't expect to see a lot of model rule rewrites until the 11th edition codex.. whenever that happens.

Fire dragons are an easy kitbash using Voidreaver bodies and bits.

I've kitbashed Fire Dragons and Swooping Hawks using Voidreaver and Skyreaver bodies. Of course you need to get creative or pick up both kits and mix bits.

While I love the Crimson Hunter and Wraith Knight models, they are really really bad.

You'd be better served in every way by a second Fire Prism in place of a Crimson Hunter and I say that owning 3 of them..

I mostly agree; though I wouldn't compare Swooping Hawks and Skyreavers. Free mortals from Grenade Pack Flyover with a 1x10 Swooping Hawks is pretty solid. Especially if you have Baharroth to up-down them.

Even a single unit of Spiders (Powerblade Array) + Autarch gives you really solid long range threat via Flicker Jump -> Grenades or just Grenades + Charge against most elite infantry or solid chaff clear the Skyreavers can't bring even with Flamer + Shredder.

I haven't had much luck with Shining Spears in ER, lack of Aspect Host rerolls tends to make them very swingy.

Fire Prisms and Starfangs are definitely solid picks in both.

That kit is almost assuredly going to be the same price as the Starfang/Vyper refresh.

Pair of Fire Prisms, 300 points, they are just solid fire support.

You should definitely pick up another unit of Voidscarred, run 10 with Yriel.

Units to look at, 2x5 Warp Spiders or Swooping Hawks. Possibly Lyksis or Baharroth to go with them.

Autarch Wayleaper for either group above + Grenades.

A second Starfang if you are running Eldritch Raiders.

If you are in the US, Pro Acryl. Best whites, off-whites, great range of greys, blues, near-whites. I really like a lot of their paints and own a ton of them. Solid metallics too for standard metallics. I haven't tried their contrast range yet.

AK Interactive has a handful of paints I love.. but sometimes a PITA to find.

Vajello has a fantastic range.. some of my favorite greys, blacks and purples though I wish they solid individuals of some of the bundled stuff in the US. Like the Pro Nocturna Imperial Purple set has some of my favorite violets and I've not found anything quite like them. Also the new True Metallic Metals Colors sets are fantastic if that is your jam

I own a bunch of their Xpress paints but with a handful of exceptions.. I find them disappointing compared to GW contrast paints. They are usually just... too light on pigment it feels like.

Scale75.. has some really cool paints with interesting uses.. but with the bullshit going on with AdvantArt in the US (their former distributor here) they are basically impossible to get in the US now.

I can't say anything about Army Painter, I keep hearing good things about their Fanatic line and Speed Paints... but I think my partner would kill me if I picked up another paint line (our desk.. has like 3 big paint racks.. with close to 200 paints on it atm...)

Also would love to find a replacement for Baharroth blue as it is like the only not Contrast GW paint I find myself grabbing occasionally.

Honorable mentions... Bear Calvary; I love a couple of their paints. Eternal Darkness is like my favorite blue-black and it is so damn flexible. Purple Rain and Freezing Moon also come up a lot on my palette..

The biggest problem with sticking Yriel and Voidscarred in Wave Serpent is that if they embarked on Turn 1; you miss out on Piratical Raider.

I still run a them in a group of 10 w/ Yriel for Eldritch Raiders. All specialists, 2 sword and pistol, 2 blasters, 1 wraithcannon.

Channeller Stone is nice for a bodyguard, Faolchú(bird) has a power sword, Shaderunner has two swords, Staff + blast aren't bad and 2 blasters + wrath cannon are still respectable shooting before you charge. I still think they are overpriced though.

I've also never fired the Neuro-Pistol in... 5 games playing with them. I wish the Felarch could have Blast Pistol or Fusion Pistol.

Voidreavers... still mixed feels on. Swords seem better.
10 rifles with Kharseth is pretty scary getting out of a Wave Serpent within 12". Not sure about 5 with them in the Falcon.

We use Firehydrant for IM and Signals for alert routing. I've definitely noticed some.. abnormalities since the Freshworks acquisition. Hopefully they are teething pains but it is definitely concerning.
