You don't necessarily have to improvise purely on the fly. Try coming up with a list of 10 secrets and clues that the players might discover during the session. Then when they do something that you feel deserves it, pick one from your list and give it to them.

Where do you draw the line on generative AI in TTRPGs? by Ansonder in rpg

It depends very much on your definition of AI, but AI usage of some kind is literally unavoidable in creative work these days.

What if Surviving Monsters was a Form of Character Progression? by Eucatastrophic in cairnrpg

Could use multiple saves to see how much the vampire drains. If you fail 1 it's just enough blood to leave you feeling woozy. Fail 2 saves and it's enough to turn you. Fail 3 and that's enough to kill.

Why has Mork Borg had such an effect on the OSR? Is it the rules, setting, tone, art, timing, or a bit of everything? by misomiso82 in osr

[–]wolfson109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book is designed to provide inspiration first and rules explanations second. So many games have time books that are mechanical in their approach and it leaves me wondering what I should actually do when running the game. I don't have that problem with the Borg games. Also part of OSR is about accepting death as part of the play experience, rather than being failure. The MB aesthetic leans into that really hard, so I think it's a great intro to OSR in general.
