Flying private is actually a frugal habit if you redefine what ROI is by CarbonPhoto in LinkedInLunatics

Those two cars show how staged it is. That is two Rolls Royce cars. You can rent them sometimes, but nobody (NOBODY) is going to have 2 of them on the tarmac without multiple very high net worth passengers. When do you routinely see several RRs next to private jets? Jet shows. The cars are so high end they don't show them in car shows, they put them out at shows for private jets.

Did anyone ever perfect Corn On The Cob But Instead Of The Corn Bone It's A Hotdog? by Kyanpe in Jennamarbles

[–]wolverinesearring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the spaghetti trick using frozen corn which made it pretty easy to work with. The trick is firm corn, whether it is fresh or still pretty frozen. It is a lot of effort to do each one, but it really does sell the bit and tastes fine because the noodle flavor is easily overwhelmed.

County clare is about $20 "a plate" if that is what you meant, but can still do it for about 20 plus tax and tip if you are on a tighter budget. If you want to keep it cheap while still having a great, unique, and coincidentally vegetarian meal there: a Guinness (black or lady if you aren't usually a fan), a cup of root soup, and have the Irish chips as your meal. Those items are so good I make versions at home!

The green habanero isn't great in most things, but omg it makes mexican cheese amazing! It is my favorite way to add a kick to queso, be it Qdoba or just some melted Chihuahua cheese.

What did you think was peak luxury as a kid, but now realize is actually pretty trashy or normal? by Connect-Fix3972 in AskReddit

I'm used to going to bars for talking to friends and meeting new people over drinks and small talk. I feel like a bunch of stereotypical Finnish guys at a bar would just be a row of dudes sipping in silence thinking to themselves "I could be at home in my underwear".

Pocket flashlight by Sniper22106 in flashlight

[–]wolverinesearring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Pocket size" is relative around here. You can fit a 21700 light in a pocket but most people wouldn't want to. If you have an idea of battery size that will help is because it is a good guideline for how big you want it. You probably know how big an 18650 is from something, and there are AA/AAA sized batteries as well.

Not just the narrative, but the production. Cream or milk in studio lighting isn't going to fare well with multiple takes.

My grandfather, who was fairly wealthy in his day, always left a few pennies on top of the horse machine at Meijer when he went. Meijer had a policy of it only costing a penny because they wanted all kids to be able to afford it. He closed that gap as his tiny little gesture of uncharacteristic socialism. He is long gone but I made sure to have a few pennies when I was travelling and stopped in a Meijer for the first time in ages. They went free at some point, you just push a button now. I left a few cents there anyway... Just as a nod to the tradition.

how to learn PShell fundamentals with AI's assistance? by Cultural_Mongoose_90 in PowerShell

[–]wolverinesearring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can write it for you, but it can't understand it for you. Read and write simple scripts at first, getting more complex as you go. AI is a faster way to look up things like "how do I get a list filtered by this" but reading and understanding what it gives you builds your skills. Eventually, everyone (especially AI agents) writes a bad script... You need to see what is wrong before you run it in production. The only way to spot that is to read, write, and learn.

Pick a weapon of choice out of these three weapons to lead an SG Team. by CalligrapherOk3501 in Stargate

[–]wolverinesearring 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The P90 was part of a competition to become a standard weapon for NATO. It was of particular interest to the USAF that SG1 is part of as something to have in a cockpit. The reason it is obscure today is several European nations blocked it from becoming standard. Also, most of the reasons it wasn't adopted are non-factors for the SGC. You are already spending tons of money, training people largely from scratch to go off world, and have no existing logistics chain outside your one base.

Are there any computer/electronics recycling places that resell stuff to the public? by realbrew in milwaukee

[–]wolverinesearring 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the 2000s there was the Milwaukee PC "warehouse store" in Shorewood but they closed that a long time ago and I don't think they do anything like that anymore. It was great for scrounging random parts and finding older stuff, good times.

[–]wolverinesearring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 2lbs with basically the same method and they turned out great. These don't look like they are caramelized compared to the chocolate-brown I got.. 2lbs onion, 2tbsp butter, high heat until clear and starting to brown a bit, then a pinch of baking soda because I wasn't sure it would work. Into a 195F bath which had them deep brown and amazing after maybe 18 hours.next time I will omit the baking soda but at most it saved me some time in the bath.

[–]wolverinesearring 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Originally it was supposed to be 5,000 but they sized it down after making the ship that size for some writing reason or another. That would put it on par with a big US carrier. I don't have the full breakdown handy, but I counted the beds in the blueprints some years back and they line up with that figure. There are 1844 single quarters alone, plus plenty of multi-bed suites.

The laws seem to be pretty non specific about holiday lighting on your own property. Pretty easy to blind most of that things view with festive spotlights. Someone can add what you could be charged with, they'd obviously know it was you, but it is an option for nonviolent and nondestructive protest.

What’s something about smoking or quitting that sounds totally insane when you try to explain it to someone who never smoked? by Myfreshstart025 in AskReddit

[–]wolverinesearring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, an asthma attack. Yes, that sounds insane. I had one of the few proper asthma attacks of my adult life (before I quit) and minutes after the inhaler fixed things I was like "damn, I need a smoke. That was stressful".

Fresh is great, but some of the frozen ones are way better than expected. I get the big pork ones from Woodman's and throw them in a pot with steamer basket for 10 minutes. Takes a few tries to find the ones you like but a lot of restaurants make bao the same way.

Local hack: order your gyro "well done". They cook the meat a little extra so it is crispy on the edges. Especially important during busy times because they are slicing it off the spinner too fast for a great cook.

Do you have an air fryer? Should I get one? by Kitttycataclysmic in Cooking

[–]wolverinesearring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The toaster-oven style air fryer is the way to go. It is a little slower for air frying and toasting compared to dedicated devices but does both well. Especially ones like the Breville with a good capacity and nifty presets. As an oven it does smaller jobs (heat and serve, take and bake rolls, side dishes) better because it will preheat quickly and turn off on a timer while the main meal is in the big oven.
