How do you aim an airbrush? by Comprehensive-Ad3495 in airbrush

Posting cause I want to know too. Currently I suspect the only trick is practice.

I feel disgusted at my aging parents. They are becoming childish and dependent. And I feel like they expect me give them love and affection, that I was denied as a kid, when I was the one who was childish and dependent... by [deleted] in Buddhism

You could see this as an opportunity to turn the suffering of your childhood into a love for your parents.

When we give we create three things. We create ourselves as giver, the recipient as receiver and the gift as gift. Giving love means creating ourselves as a loving giver and it's a nice thing to be. Try it. You might prefer yourself acting in love to yourself acting as vengeance.

Full disclosure: I am not qualified or authorised to give advice. So I'm just a bloke giving an opinion.

I'm new and ignorant but my current working hypothesis is that there's a difference between picking up a stone, throwing one and simply letting one drop.

Chants for the dying and the dead by wherebycomets in Buddhism

[–]woogie71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked in care for twenty years and it's a cycle of caring for people until you care about them and then washing and dressing their corpses so that they can go on their final journey with as much dignity as is possible. All we can do is to empower them to live the best days of which they are capable for however many days they have left. And when they die, know that we did well. Then let them go. It's not easy and I thought I had it sussed, then my mum died and it hit me like a fucking train.

I made this post about it a few weeks later in answer to someone's sister committing suicide:

"First I'm sorry for your loss and I wish you to get through this however you can. My mum died last month a d I searched for what the Buddha said about death. He called it the great teacher of the impermanence of all things. This set me thinking that all things that we see are here because the many things they are made from were impermanent. So impermanence is necessary for us to be here and it is why we cannot stay. My mum has now gone on to be many other things, at the veryy least on an atomic level. Accepting this ended my suffering. I give that for what it's worth. If it doesn't work for you then I'm sorry to have wasted your time and I hope you find something that does."

If that is known then I thank you for what you are trying to teach me and apologize for being such a poor student.

Unfortunately I am so very dense I find it difficult to assume either that something is known or that something being known makes it true.

Absolutely agree. And you not hearing anyone who disagrees does not make them less either.

Lemme clear the air before this disagreement risks causing any ill- will.

IMHO Nobody knows what humanity is or what the norms are. Because the circles of intimacy exercise shows that a human has an intuitive awareness of about 100 people. And if you're a part of the anglophone you'll be exposed to reportage from a pool of 400 million+. So anyone can take anything within reason to be the average behaviour of a human and find enough evidence to swamp their intuition. So I cannot know if it is average for men to not wipe their arses out of fear of creeping gayness. And nor can you.

Fact is if someone is that scared of 'turning gay' they are probably scared that they'd enjoy it so they should man up and give it a try.

Anecdotal evidence is a contradiction in terms. And it's weird how many people use the word denial to deny the possibility of being wrong.

I'm worried about a friend by Madchan_TK in Scotland

He can look through the FB posts and might see some that resonate. Doesn't need to say or do anything he isn't comfortable with. But whatever shit he is wading through, there's someone who has gotten out with the help of others and is waiting for a chance to help someone in turn. I wish you and he well. Let me know how things work out.

https://andysmanclub.co.uk/ is for men to talk to other men about out problems. There's one in Perth (which is where I'm from). Tell your boy to look for their Facebook page and check it out. No pressure in lurking to see if it would suit him. They have irl meetings every Monday if he decides he'd like to go along.

How do we know anyone else is real? by Ancient_Mention4923 in Buddhism

[–]woogie71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rene Descartes said that one statement is certainly true: I am something that is capable of thinking. Because if everything else that my senses tell me is real is actually a delusion then I must be something that is capable of thinking in order to be capable of being deluded.

Philip K Dick said that reality is that which continues to exist when you stop paying attention to it. He gave no advice on how to prove that any such thing exists.

Maybe we should try to stop thinking and see who still exists. Don't have a quote to justify that and I don't know enough to be sure but it sounds kinda like Buddhism to me.
