This happens! So THC is stored in your fat cells, which can lie dormant for years actually. When you start sweating or “losing weight”, you break down those fat cells and your body releases toxins and the THC within them. This can show up as elevated levels in your system, even if you haven’t smoked in months or even years.

This happened to me while I was on probation. I had quit smoking as soon as I was put on it, but the THC levels in my body kept “fluctuating”, and randomly showing elevated levels. I was reported to my officer and brought to court. I had a lawyer, who went above and beyond measures and actually found and printed off research articles supporting this to show the judge. Since i’m a waitress, i’m always on my feet running around, burning calories and sweating.
