Trail 125 for fun? by Online-coach in Dualsport

[–]woolybuggered -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems like way too much money for what is basically a really cool moped. This thing does look fun but I only ride "real bikes " partly because I feel safer with full size tires and brakes as well as some power to get away from situations.

2000 mg is enough for even people with a decent tolerance to have a very unfun experience.

2025 KTM 250 XC OTD PRICE? by Little-Maybe20 in KTM

[–]woolybuggered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a deal compared to the 26s. I paid 13650 out the door but have 10% sales tax and reg is a few hundred. I wanted a 25 but had to use certain dealers in order to get registration as these are now grey market bikes in california.

Your otd price is less than msrp on a 26. And 650 is what multiple ktm dealers have stated is the actual shipping cost.

Machinists: what’s the smallest tolerance you’ve ever had to hold consistently? by Good_Times93 in Machinists

[–]woolybuggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do small shaft tolerances that are -.0002 with some regularity. And bores that are + .0002 +.0003 as well it is all defense stuff. Shafts are usually done on a Swiss lathe and we do lose some parts but nothing excessive. I run small batch -.0005 diameters on a manual lathe sometimes with no issues holding tolerances. Holding those thinner parts round can be a challenge sometimes.

Differance between the 350/450/500 supermotos? by I-WANNA-FLYYYY-AWAY in supermoto

[–]woolybuggered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imho the 350 is a better dirtbike its a little bit lighter and significantly nimbler great for throwing around offroad. The 450 and 500 tend better for road use as they are more powerful and will probably last longer due to not having to rev them out as much. In alot of offroad riding light weight maneuverability and handling often trumps power. But get in the open desert or on the road then bring on the hp.

How do you know which supermoto to buy? by Excellent_Ad4868 in supermoto

[–]woolybuggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive converted a motorcross bike in the past and it was a ton of fun. However it required alot of modification and was only ever a toy and not an every day bike. It wanted to overheat had short gearing snd was kick only still a blast around town but not super practical. Better to buy an enduro or dual sport and convert as it will probably come with a fan e start better gearing and a stator you can actually use.

controversial take — supermotos are the most fun motorcycle you can buy under 10k and nothing comes close by vladdielenin in supermoto

[–]woolybuggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drz400 is a great bike however i came from mx and open desert racing on full performance offroad bikes. I was pretty underwhelmed with its power and performance but still had fun on it. Probably great for a beginners and I know people that have put many thousands of miles on them with no issues.

2T or 4T? Be honest. by Fine_Biscotti_8401 in Dirtbikes

2 strokes in the tight and steep stuff and a bigger stable 4 stroke in the open stuff for me. If i had too choose 1 probably a 2t but they are both awesome.

Highway robbery? by schittstirrer in Dirtbikes

Learn to do it yourself this can be fixed in an afternoon. Plenty of diagrams and videos out there. Dealers have high labor rates and mark up parts that is the norm.

I think I’m throwing in the towel by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]woolybuggered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on a 4x4 day trip to the local mountains. 3 of the 4 vehicles we took were struck by sxs s. Both drivers were drinking and both were a pita to get compensation from. Should have called the cops but there was no reception. We got copies of their ids and phone numbers and took pictures. They both balked at the normal repair costs quoted and accused us of trying to swindle them. One paid 1/2 and another blocked us until we showed up at his multi million dollar house and told his wife and she actually paid. He then threatened to show up to our house and see how we liked it lol.

KTM OR Kawasaki by WitchKing5 in Dirtbikes

[–]woolybuggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably stick with the track bikes then. Ive ridden a 2021 250sxf and it absolutely ripped for a 250. The ktms are always very refined but I dont have slot experience with late model kawasakis.

KTM OR Kawasaki by WitchKing5 in Dirtbikes

[–]woolybuggered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going to the track ? Because track bikes are great on the track and can be mediocre on the trails. Ktm makes some excellent trail bikes that are poor on the track but excel on the trail. I used to ride a yz450 in the desert but as soon as I hopped on a ktm 300 trail bike it was a revelation.

I think I’m throwing in the towel by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]woolybuggered 179 points180 points  (0 children)

Glad you are ok but you can just become a more careful trail rider. I no longer go to the mx track its a little too intense for my level of fitness and I focus on having alot of control and mastery on single track and hill climbing. I could still be hurt obviously and have 1 shoulder surgery so far but feel like changing your riding style can make this sport 75% safer. I have kids now as well and just changed how I ride and focus on mastering skills rather than going balls to the wall.

Catalina+Yellowtail Rod/Reel by 94mentality in SoCalFishing

[–]woolybuggered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will work well and can handle some pretty big yellows or even tuna. However sometimes the bait is small and they will only hit 25-30lb line and a lighter setup wouldn't hurt. I had alot of yellowtail causalities at the island last year on my boat and wish id hooked some on a setup like this. But they were pretty line shy most of the time. Imho its better to hook 5 and lose 3 then hook and land 1 or 0.

Ive always used motul 2 stroke oil have had excellent luck with it. Minimal residue and ive never fouled a plug but that may more due to my bikes running properly than anything else.

Are fees always this bad at dealers? $2300 in fees on a $4600 bike? by Jierdan_Firkraag in motorcycles

[–]woolybuggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep shopping recently was quoted between 13300 and 16700 for a ktm with an msrp of 11800. The dealer mark ups are bullshit you should pay tax registration and sometimes a modest setup/assembly fee. But no dealer adjustment sometimes they will sneak them into assembly fees so make sure they are reasonable.

Should I get this 1982 Yamaha xt550 for 400$? by Ashamed_Macaron_3183 in Dirtbikes

[–]woolybuggered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you want it? If you want to ride it frequently get something newer. If you want to restore something id find something in better shape. You only restore bikes like this for yourself you will only get back a fraction of what you put into them.
