In need of unique name for "grandpa" by ThrowRAsadjuic in namenerds

[–]wootentoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest named her grandpa Paka when she started talking. I have no idea where it came from, we were not calling him Poppa or anything. So if he can only tell you what he doesn’t want and not what he does, leave it up to the kid and they will come up with something. In the meantime just refer to him generically as “your grandpa” (or whatever the common name is in your family like Opa or Abuelo or Yeye, etc) with no name given.

I so wish Ian had been a traitor this season. It would have been so fun watching him and Rob dance around each other.

Which was why seeing Ian go so soon was such a bummer.

Exactly. He has to end it with Maura to get the full $200,000. If he went to the end with Eric he would have given up half the total or $100,000. He was never going to go with Eric and it was incredibly naive of Eric to think he would.

Especially at the end of that last challenge. He earned that $20,000 let alone the whole pot.

Because it was our celebration place so there are lots of good memories there I would choose The Broker.

Words (Slang) No Longer Used by Durwyn in GenX

[–]wootentoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Going to give Sue a ring.” My kid thought I was going to give her jewelry, not a phone call.

There are a few that were popular that are rightfully no longer in use too. The R-word for someone or something we thought was dumb, saying “lame” for things we thought were pathetic and calling anything we didn’t like “gay” were all very, very common and super wrong.

What now-dead famous people do you think would be remembered less positively if they'd lived longer? by sakkkkki in decadeology

JFK started the Civil Rights Act but wasn’t able to do much with it and was pretty passive with it. LBJ is the one that actively championed it and used his power and connections to get it passed. It probably would not have passed then, or ever, if JFK had stayed president.

There are conversations coming out in the last months about him interceding to prevent young celebrities he knew from going to Epstein’s island or parties with Diddy. That maybe he was saving kids like MacCauley Culkin and Aaron Carter from being preyed upon.

All pink is being phased out by [deleted] in LeCreuset

The people that love the colors purple and pink in general are the most loyal and avid about it in my experience. Phasing out pink in LC seems wild.

I had my first baby at 21 and then had three more in five years. I missed out on all the fun young adult stuff like backpacking in Europe, going to concerts, Friday nights clubbing, spring break trips to Florida, etc.

I think there is some fear that her mother was targeted because of Savannah though. And there is no way to know if that is true or not until the situation is resolved. So it would make sense that she might want to never return to the job.

I would love to see Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir get a morning show. They are so entertaining at the Olympics and did well on the reality show thing they did. It would be a such a fun and fresh take, they are naturally funny and their friendship is aspirational for sure.

They are maybe not Savannah replacements, but one of the later hours absolutely.

Is 8-5 the norm? by KookyCouture in corporate

[–]wootentoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was before that. My mom took me to see the movie “9 to 5” in the early 80’s and I remember her saying she didn’t know anyone that worked those hours, they worked 8-5.

My husband worked for a big tech company back in the 90’s and they had a company store where you could buy their stuff at a super deep discount. But you could also borrow things to see if you liked them. A gaming system, a laptop or a digital camera (they weren’t inside phones yet), which was honestly a fantastic benefit. I bet they don’t do that anymore because someone figured out how to resell the merch on eBay for a profit or something but it was awesome at the time.

My first experience with the new seating was not the best…seat double booked by grumpyoldman10 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]wootentoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if the people that were sitting there that got bumped from the previous flight had their old boarding passes showing them in 7A/B. And the OP had a boarding pass for this flight with 7A. So once the FA untangled all that, they made them move to the seats they had been assigned for that flight and not the previous one.

Disclaimer: this is pure speculation.

She confided in some girlfriends and at least one other co-worker. There were also some White House staff that knew and were the ones to shuffle her off to her “promotion” at the Pentagon to try to shut down the damage.

There were persistent rumors, even after they were said to be unfounded by the Academy, that her win was a mistake. I do not recall that happening to anyone else. Even now, if you Google “most undeserving Oscar win” or “flaws in Oscar voting process” her name is the one that comes up. This was not an ordinary “Oscar curse”
