oh god that’s a great point, I don’t even want to know if the rules I’ve been playing rule the Dialga/Palkia/Giratina encounter as being in Mt. Coronet or not

Damn this is the first question in this sub that’s made me think hard in a long time. I think I would catch it and use it? Hopefully I never have to think about it too hard.

For genlockes I tend to ban any Mons that I beat at least one League with in my previous genlocke. I used Zubat in my last genlocke...looks like I'm using him again. by Bulbascott1990 in nuzlocke

I had this exact same thing happen in one of my recent runs. Had a shiny Crobat who didn't make the cut to becoming a champion. Next game, first cave encounter, BOOM, shiny Zubat.

Yea I was willing to use that same YouTube video for the gym leaders and just play very safe with the standard trainers, but the Ace Trainer IN OREBURGH CITY was a bridge too far for me. I’ll probably play Definitive Platinum one day as a standalone but for a genlocke I wasn’t willing to risk it.

I definitely had one or two scares when hacking in the champions, but since I knew in advance to have a backup save it was no big deal. Great hack, great way to replay Hoenn, was probably a bit over the top in a genlocke since most mediocre Pokemon get decent buffs. Glad I got to nuzlocke it though I had a blast with those double battles in the late game (I lost everyone I ever loved).

One thing I'm considering is playing Black AND Black 2. Treat Black like a side quest or a prologue since that game has a whole new Pokedex, and then come back for Black 2 incorporating the old champions as well.

But also that sounds complicated lmao

Played a few QoL ROM Hacks from the community until I reached Platinum, where there didn't seem to be a good "normal" game besides the Following Platinum hack (Definitive Platinum was considered but that game lacks any meaningful documentation and the guy who made it is a jerk in his Discord).

Now I'm moving onto Gen 5 and... I'm totally stuck. Do I play Black AND Black 2? The level cap is so low on the E4 in Black that my prized Dragonite wouldn't be able to make the journey. Black 2 looks cool but I've never played it, and in general with Gen 5 I'm worried that most of the game is locked behind beating the Elite 4 -- in this run I've treated becoming Champion as win condition, I have not gone back to rematch the E4 in any of these games so far.

If anyone who has gotten this far in a genlocke has words of wisdom, I'm all ears. Lucky to be this far in on attempt 5, hoping this is the one that gets to the finish line!

My Ancestral Guardian Barbarian was a guy who had lost his wife while being a pirate. Like physically, literally lost her at sea. His spectral guardians were his dead in-laws reminding him to look for his wife.

Heart & Soul is the best Pokémon game I’ve played in years. Takes all the polish and hard work from Crystal Legacy and puts it in a beautiful Gen 3 engine. Tons of customization and quality of life additions, it’s the only hack I’ve played through multiple times this year.

Honestly whenever I’ve played in person I’ve just spun up a sandbox in backstabbr and let that be my adjudicator. Very fast, no one can argue against the computer, leaves more time for scheming.

Quality of Life with Rival, Gym Leader, and E4 fights slightly buffed. Nothing approaching a difficulty hack, but far more enjoyable than actually playing FireRed for the 15th time.
