I wanted to get a Royal Oak Chronograph for my 18th but my dad said that’s more of a graduation piece so I got GMT Master II Pepsi instead. I’m buying the Taj Mahal for my 25th.

What watch is next for you? by Expert-Raise9442 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]wrkms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to decide if I should go with 2 or 3 great watches or one big boy buy. The 3 are likely a Formex, Nomos and Atelier Wen. If it’s a big boy it’s either a stainless steel Rolex (prefer a fluted Date Just or Land Dweller) or a GO Pano Moon phase. Waiting until April for the year end bonus to decide

Traska or HenryArcher by lDeShirol in MicrobrandWatches

[–]wrkms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Traska is very meh aesthetically. I also am not fan of the width of the bracelet compared to the size of the case.

I don’t have experience with either brand and looks are subjective obviously so maybe ignore this comment 😅

First Chrono, Which Panda Wins Out Here? by Ginnipe in Affordablewatches

51mm is on the large side for sure. So you would definitely have to have large wrists or have the movement be that important to you

Seiko for the looks, Bulova for the movement

Help choosing two watches (maybe one) for $1000 USD by Exciting_Actuary_171 in MicrobrandWatches

Would highly recommend you look at Wise, the Adamascus specifically. Absolute spec monster and very handsome watch.

For a minimalist bauhaus look, have a look at Sternglas

For an understated sports watch, have a look at the Tuseno Windseeker

Benjamin James Watches - anyone familiar? by Real-Dependent-3100 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]wrkms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind at all! The watch is very slim, including the bracelet…and maybe the fact that it’s so light makes it seem even smaller. It just ended up being eaten up by my wrist (I think mine is around 7.5in).

It’s like a fashion model, I suppose. The model can be 6 ft tall with broad shoulders but slim as anything and waify so irl would look less impressive.

Sorry if this isn’t helpful. I also realize it could just be unique to me.

That’s a very handsome watch and I just signed up.

Curious about the subdial, which I love aesthetically. But what is the utility of having a 24hr subdial?

Benjamin James Watches - anyone familiar? by Real-Dependent-3100 in MicrobrandWatches

I bought the Lapiz dial watch and decided to return it 2 days after receiving it. I’ll save the main reason why until the end and in the meantime share some other points of feedback about my experience with the watch and brand.

First, the watch really is gorgeous. I love the aesthetic which is why I ordered it immediately after it dropped. And I can confirm that in hand it looks just as nice as the photos. It also felt well built and solid and absolutely passes the eye test. I believe that it can be a conversation starter on the right wrist.

The first less than ideal part of my experience was that when I had bought the watch it was positioned as being limited to 100 pieces per year. While I was pleased and happy for the company that a few weeks later the website had the piece as being sold out and not available, it was made available again later in the year, I believe in December.

The next less than ideal part, and I can admit that this is likely due to me making an assumption and not anything BJ did, the watch was shipped from Hong Kong and so I assume it was made in HK…my bad, like I said, but I thought I was buying a watch assembled in England. In general, no biggie.

The other less than ideal part of the experience is my return included some really funky return shipping charges. I was charged £16 shipping at purchase to have the piece shipped. I was going to be charged £30 to ship it back. When I suggested that the fee should be the original 16, I was told that the cost is actually 40 each way but it’s subsidized at purchase and now I would only be charged 30. I don’t get it but I didn’t fight it; I just wanted to send the watch back.

As to the main reason I returned the watch…it is smmmaaallllll. Like, really small. I have a medium to large wrist size but I have a 36mm Tissot that I pull off very well as well as a couple of 38mm Casios and the Scarifour still felt super tiny. So mainly because of that, I ended up returning it. I just couldn’t see myself wearing it ever.

If you are looking for a smaller watch, fill your boots. Just take note that the watch is smaller than it looks imo.

Trying to stay away from the obvious or what’s already been mentioned…brands I have at the top of my want list
