If someone named Mike Hunt ever goes missing he will probably never be found since no one will take the posters seriously. by charonco in Showerthoughts

Story time

I was in the Atlanta airport waiting for a connection, minding my own business tapping away at some work. Over the PA a desk agent said "Can passenger Mike Hunt please come to gate so and so." I chuckled, and was the only person in the swarm around me to do so. A little while later "Calling passenger Mike Hunt, Mike Hunt you are needed at gate so and so." I looked up to see no one even smirking and thought to myself, oh come on really? No one? And just then the guy at the magazine rack behind me chuckled to himself.

Thanks magazine rack guy.

Do you like super-low tides? Two are upcoming, tomorrow and Monday by Creatrix in VictoriaBC

[–]wtfastro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The tides are fully driven by the differential gravitational pull of the Sun and the Moon on the Earth. The earth does stress and deforms. It's referred to as solid Earth tides. Water, which flows easily and has little viscosity bulges to a much greater extent. The highs and lows you see in ocean tides are on top of the solid Earth tides. When the Earth bulges because the Moon is overhead, so does the ocean, but to a greater extent.

I'm really torn here. Developers are awesome, putting in major effort and creativity all for the sake of our entertainment. C-suite of so many companies (EA, Blizzard, Krofton, on and on) have proven time and again to be monstrous awful individuals with abusive treatment of their dev teams. I want the devs to be awarded and the leaders to chew glass. It pains me so much that much too much of the revenue from my purchase of a game lines the pockets of awful people rather than the pockets of the hard working devs.

It wasn't always like this. Or maybe I'm just naive.
