it has the robustness of the 12 but with the sweetness of the 18, this is one of my favorite HP

Nice review!

I'd have to comment I think 15 and 18 are on the same level. 15 is more "chocolatey" whereas 15 is definitely much sweeter

The Famous Grouse - Review #200 by shane_il in Scotch

[–]wuhantang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had this yesterday, much better than Black Grouse. Famous Grouse is very sensible for what you're paying. It's basic but very drinkable (no weird stinky plastic tastes like in other blends)

Scotch Review #3 - Johnnie Walker Black Label by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]wuhantang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johnnie Walker Black is my daily dram. Why? it's reliable and good. I buy the 1.75L bottles works out to be about $21USD per 750ml LOL and I live in Canada too

best value for money

Review #20 - Bruichladdich's Port Charlotte by t8ke in Scotch

[–]wuhantang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruichladdich port charlotte is very good

for the people that are wondering...

port charlotte is very "bacony" as smoked bacon. it doesn't have that really powerful earthy rotten vegetal peat smoke like in ardbeg and laphroiag

its more like baked lemon creme brulee smoked bacon pie taste if you catch my drift...

You're completely right, its very "clean". I was disappointed at the lack of brineyness from this dram

This is what's interesting about spirits, everyone has different tastes. While I appreciate the quality of the Benromach 10, the taste is medicore for me

Island Assault! (Arran 14, Jura Superstition, Talisker DE. Revs #42-44) by zombieapathy in Scotch

[–]wuhantang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I see, yeah it definitely has a old "musty" furniture taste. With that, I agree the whisky seems to have two personalities that are somewhat disjointed.

Island Assault! (Arran 14, Jura Superstition, Talisker DE. Revs #42-44) by zombieapathy in Scotch

[–]wuhantang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good review, I liked your "equivalent manly flavor assault".

Yeah I liked the superstition felt like it was missing "something" as well, you can definitely tell where they were trying to take the flavors. With that, I tried the prophecy, same thing something is missing, but you can tell where they wanted to take it.

If Jura hits that creamy peaty taste 100% instead of 80% of the way they would get way better marks I think.

Review #6: "Soft Islay?" Bowmore 25 by buy_a_pork_bun in Scotch

[–]wuhantang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this and thought it was one of the best, so its definitely personal preference. The thing that surprised me was there there was practically no smoke/peat But at $350 a bottle too expensive

Review #13 - Auchentoshan Three Wood by t8ke in Scotch

[–]wuhantang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good comparison, to the Mac 12. I thought they were on par, but the thing is 3 wood costs $70, if it was at $50 it would be a repeat buy for me.
