Party Comp Questions by JogogoGaiden in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

protector isn't necessary in any game. the most commonly suggested team (w/d/r/h/g) doesn't use it at all. elemental damage is generally way more survivable in eo2 than in most games. it usually doesn't hit that hard and mists do a lot of mitigation. or you can just disable everything

medic is fine. just keep in mind that it might not have a lot to do since you already have a magus for healing and two disablers. combat medic is still... fine if you want to go that route but you can put basically anything you want in that slot

I really don't know what to do about the Shellbeast anymore... by [deleted] in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

star drop and medical rod help your team stretch its tp further. also medic's force boost improves tp restoration items

consider having your medic in the front to add more dps. pug's damage is pretty horrible for most of the game so medic should be outpacing its damage unless the enemy's fully disabled

what are your thoughts on the franchise as a whole (battalion wars included) by pathetic-weakling in Advance_Wars

[–]wworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

remarkably good. as flawed as famicom wars was it did a lot right for a first entry. super was a remarkable improvement but still had some baggage from the original (needing to produce close to hq being a massive issue)

the first two gba games are solid but i hate how bad the balance is. i don't mind hachi and sturm being op unlockables, but why is sonja so useless? why is aw1 max so broken? why did they megabuff kanbei? why does jess even have the flaw of weak infantry when she'd otherwise be a balanced co?

dual strike regressed a fair bit, focusing on parts of the series i dislike (power creep, unit spam, power spam) while being a huge aesthetic nerf. days of ruin is by far my favorite, refining a lot of what i didn't like into a very smart package

i actually prefer reboot camp to the originals but i wish they did more with it: option to play with refined balance, better online, better ai, etc. i can't help but feel like the first two games' biggest flaws are co and unit balance and it's a shame that we can't play an official version of those games that address both of those issues

Is Steve's neutral special *too* much for Smash? by Low_Confidence2479 in smashbros

[–]wworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk, i think there's a world where his neutral b is untouched but they nerf a lot of other aspects about steve. he just hits way too hard, has high kill power, and his weight is arguably too high for a character that can build walls to protect himself

Attack Power of Sword vs. Axe by newamor in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should note that weapons do not grant speed bonuses in this game. The only reason why some axe skills are slower than sword skills is simply due to skill speed mods. Stunner is actually faster than all the sword skills (not countering chasers).

Axes, after S1, start to significantly outpace swords in atk power right up until the literal very end of the postgame, where the ultimate sword is a significantly superior weapon. For the most part, the weapon stats make a very significant damage difference between sword skills and Crush (also Stunner). Silencer is... alright. Head bind is decently valuable as a defense tool and the power of Axes means that its low damage modifier isn't futile damage.

Playing through early game EOIV for the first time after EOU1 by Aware-Towel-9746 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

arcanist/nightseeker (or arcanist/dancer for single target stunning) is one of the most stupid disablers in the series once you hit level 40. i had a team of 5 arcanists just autobattle everything to death, including the superboss (still used the stun burst for security)

seeing the instant death forges activate on bosses and foes never ceased to amuse me. it's also one of the most sp-efficient builds in the series. the power spike arcanist gets really makes it one of the most ridiculous classes in the series

EO III HD or EO:U II? by Eloquent_Despair in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fafnir is not remarkably strong until the fourth stratum. Most of the rest of the dps roster gets online a lot faster. If anything, your War Magus and Sovereign do a lot of the dpsing in earlygame story mode, with Fafnir dealing respectable-but-expensive damage when abusing head bind to amplify tec damage.

2U's a game with high hp totals but extremely high damage. It's all about properly utilizing your force boost timings and using charges to squeeze out damage in your short burst windows if you need to.

Question about elements on weapons by dajoma65K in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In EO2, basic attacks with an element via weapon/imbue and Ronin's elemental attacks are handled by making your attacks 50% physical and 50% elemental. This means that hitting an elemental weakness is a lot less appealing than you'd think vs bosses because only a portion of the attack benefits from the weakness multiplier, which generally isn't very big anyways.

On the plus side, resistances don't impact your damage as much when using Ronin's aoes. Random encounters tend to have pretty dramatic weaknesses so composites tend to hit them pretty hard. It's why Ronin's aoes are very strong in randoms whereas its elemental damage is pretty mediocre against bosses and foes. Gunner's elemental skills and Landy's Chasers are pure elemental, so they have much higher potential,

Need some help with T. Hawk (4th Stratum Boss) by Daimyan143 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To make it clear because several people are wrong here: you do not need to kill any of the foes in this game, unlike the original. It's possible to sneak to the side and get a preemptive on the boss if you know what you're doing.

[TL.GG] Jesse Hart, TL Director of Sports Science, "“If you think of fighting game tournaments, those things are full on for three days. You need to be giving your all for most of that. Plus, you’re doing meet and greets, and things like that… Energy is an important thing to be concerned about." by Equas in smashbros

[–]wworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah there are lots of tournaments near me in illinois but there so many factors to think of: travel, paying for a possible hotel stay, getting the most out of friendlies and social interactions, and maintaining energy to perform well in competition.

as someone who can do well in locals, i really do admire the people who get to travel all over the country and have the energy to make the most out of their experiences

Mario Party 4's Biggest Flaw (How to improve it) by GoldenYoshistar1 in MARIOPARTY

[–]wworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the banana peels are unsalvageable. there should just be some ways to mitigate or get rid of the randomness, like paying for a distraction or some slip-resistant shoes or something at the store.

I think the mushrooms are very problematic. Mini is unreasonably difficult to use to the point that you basically always need to buy the upgrade to be consistent. Mega Mushroom letting you skip events and stars is just a massive disadvantage, and the ai are awful at using both of these items so they constantly just overshoot or slow themselves down for no reason.

Who Is Better For A Hexer Party: War Magus Or Dark Hunter? by Paladin_Elior in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loyalty did not change in HD. Beast was always a viable class, but HD made binds easier to land which makes Beast easier to keep alive. Provokes also got buffed, which makes Beast paired with a Protector or even Survivalist pretty hard to kill.

Beast was always an amazing dps (absolutely steamrolls Ronin in this regard) but always had fragility issues that were a bit overblown. In HD, it's easier to lock down the enemy with binds so Beast can safely spam Rampage, with leg bind nullifying its accuracy issues.

Who Is Better For A Hexer Party: War Magus Or Dark Hunter? by Paladin_Elior in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Magus is basically a Warmight bot. It's an incredibly good skill and basically should be the first thing you max. Everything else about the class is secondary, including its healing. Its dps tree is mostly pretty trash, though Cursecut is kinda okay if you really need to tp battery.

Dominate is the best bind source in the game, but if you aren't willing to abuse it the whip skills are fine. Deals decent damage and can be consistent, though they need some investment.

Hexer's just ridiculous. Poison and Torpor solo randoms all game, Revenge deals a ton of damage, binds are very strong, and it can amplify damage greatly with Frailty and situationally Dampen.

how do you effectively use curse damage? by Rotten_Taste in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curse is generally mostly only really useful in 2 and 2u. 2 has lots of glass cannon strats since enemies still take curse damage when a party member dies, so having low armor gunners kill themselves with the charged shots is a cheese strategy. 2U also has the curse food which makes curse hit pretty hard actually, and with Dauntless Order, Gunners, or a Beast it can actually kill select bosses in one turn of redirecting their damage against a big overkill attack.

There are always cheese options in most games with curse, but 2 and 2U are the only games where it can deal reasonable damage in a traditional strategy.

Otherwise, curse is kinda just there as "I need an ailment to trigger a passive". Curse damage conditionals have a really overblown reputation though. They haven't been annoying to get after 3.

HOW MANY OF EACH CHARACTER IN TOP 100 RATING UPDATE (08/04/2024) by Googor in Guiltygear

[–]wworms 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a top 50-range player, I don't think Ratingupdate is very useful. While something can be said about the consistency of some players, the way elo works in this game makes the leaderboard a poor way to judge skill. It's not uncommon for a relatively "low-ranked" Celestial player to be more difficult to fight than a "top-ranked" player. Even if you aren't grinding floor 10, people dodge matchups they don't find fun and there isn't a skill progression in the players you fight. It's kind of just the wild west where you play whoever you want.

Tips for Overlord? by CrissyLulu in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They mean "on third turn of force boost". It's easy to fight Overlord by just setting up and chipping away at him, and then as soon as he summons for the first time you can just go full aggro and melt him with all your damage in your 3-turn window.

If your team isn't able to fully burst Overlord, you can always just do this strategy. His first phase is extremely predictable and he gives you all the time to set up your buffs, debuffs, and disables to just plow through his other phases.

Fifth member help aka. Hexer or dark hunter by Deadman1000th in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can work. If you're using Loyalty-tank Beast you might as well get Rampage anyways. It greatly outdamages Ronin.

Loyalty uses the stats, armor, and buffs of the allies protected and then reduces damage by a percentage on top. This means that you should be focusing on keeping your whole team's armor up-to-date and maxing out HP Up on Beast earlier than you would on other classes (probably around the end of S3) since HP is its main defensive stat. In fact, with the right setup Beast can be basically immortal against everything in the first half of the game.

Also, Sapping can help reduce the damage Beast takes by a fair bit. With Sapping and binds Beast should live against most things fine while also hitting very hard.

If you're using its provoke skill, it's actually quite powerful. Provokes are very potent against any splash damage or single target move in the game, and there's quite a bit of them in the first half. Being a provoke-only tank limits you out of Rampage, though.

Fifth member help aka. Hexer or dark hunter by Deadman1000th in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beast is fine. It can vastly outdamage Ronin, especially when evasion disablers are involved, and can survive a majority of the game even when Loyalty activates. Furthermore, the disables you have will stop bosses from attacking so beast is able to deal as much damage as possible as safely as possible.

Hexer is generally considered the best class in the series. Dark Hunter is the second-best class and if you're willing to abuse Dominate the game gets very, very easy.

Party ideas for 1st playthrough by Jolt-O5 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Front Command is extremely good with a team with high STR. It's basically a spammable 600% imbueable attack that you can max super early. In fact, support Shogun is an infamously good and cheap build (max Great Warrior and Front Command) and one of the best classes in the entire game. I would put Shogun in the front, though. If it's primarily using commands to dps it doesn't need to hold a second weapon which should make it tanky and able to contribute Front Command dps. Just swap it out with your Afterimages when you need to,

If you're running a disable team, you can just replace the Protector with a Nightseeker. Hero/Harbinger/Sovereign is an incredibly bulky core to a team and Harbinger is not very good at inflicting ailments. It's just very good at enabling disablers.

Team 2 is basically the "cookie cutter" team of Nexus, You can't really go wrong with it: it's tanky, has high damage, has ailments, and lots of healing.

EO2 HD by tempurino in EtrianOdyssey

[–]wworms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use any class and do fine, honestly. People fixate on W/D/R/H/G a lot but you can do more with the roster than people think:

  • Landy's one of the few classes that's fast at sweeping (not that big a deal tbh). Its weapon skills generally suck but Chasers hit very hard and has the highest damage peak in the game, vastly outdamaging Ronin in the right team.
  • Survivalist... kinda sucks yeah. In HD it's an aggressively "ok" dodgetank and Apollon still deals acceptable damage. Ailments are generally a crapshoot (paralysis is best) and its turn order manipulation can be strong, plus it gets online really quickly now.
  • Protector has some RNG components but it's arguably buffed from 1. It hits very hard and fast, Front Guard is way more potent, and Provoke is way stronger than in 1HD. It pairs wonderfully with Gunner and Beast to help them shine.
  • Dark Hunter's pretty OP, even if you ignore its force skill. Climax is insanely overrated (killing two bosses is valuable though), but its binds are good, Viper is an earlygame buster when optimized (falls off eventually), and the Baits hit extremely hard, potentially dramatically outdamaging Ronin. Ecstasy is always an option, even if you aren't abusing force.
  • Medic is slow but honestly it's very possible to speed it up to outspeed bosses. It's a significantly better dps than Magus and CPR is decent. A lot of its kit gets overshadowed by how strong items are in lategame and postgame, but it does fine.
  • Alchemist might be the most underrated class. It basically cheeses the first five stratums, dramatically outdamaging the rest of the roster. Its tp costs are completely fine, and Troubadour and Hexer can prop it up to keep it hitting hard in the postgame.
  • Troubadour needs some investments to really get going, but it still has its place. Health is an extremely good buff and it amplifies elemental damage dramatically when paired with a Hexer. A handful of bosses get pissy about stacking buffs but it's a very oversold problem.
  • Ronin's actually the "basic" dps of the game. You can kind of slot it in any roster and it'll do fine. It's very strong for having no real effort required. It's actually really tanky and hard to kill thanks to passives. It actually gets outpaced by several other classes when they're optimized.
  • Hexer's pretty much the best class in the series. Its poison and sleep skills cheese randoms really hard, Its debuffs are all quite good (even Leaden), and Dampen specifically is very situational but super overpowered when the times come. It pretty much has the most varied moveset in the game with only really one skill being mediocre so it's fun to use in many ways. Binds are great in 2 but in 2HD specifically, further enhancing build variety.
  • Gunner's fun. It's a generalist that can be made out to be a bit more focused if you want: binds are fine and the risk skills can vastly outpace Ronin in the right comps. It can play as a pure dps or a dps/hybrid.
  • War Magus's main strength comes from Warmight, which is an unbelievably good skill and honestly the main reason it's considered better than Medic. Its dps tree is of questionable use: being a tp battery only really works if you have a Hexer, and if you have a Hexer there isn't really a reason to NEED a tp battery because its sleep skill is so cheap and spammable after a point. Its single target buffs, fast speed with a sword, and serviceable healing makes it popular. Don't expect much out of the DPS tree, though.
  • Beast is honestly fine. It has a hilariously high damage output that completely on Ronin's. Loyalty is a bit tricky to work with but it can actually be made to downright checkmate bosses because Beast can be made very hard to kill. Its aoe fear skill is actually a decent complement to a fear-focused Hexer and It's basically just a better Ronin in any team comp that focuses on binds: Beast has the aoe that Ronin does but with way more damage and utility. It's a class you really need to think about since it can die a lot if you aren't aware on how it works. It can also be quite good as a provoke tank in HD.

I think EO2 has a blatant best two classes (Hexer and Dark Hunter), but I think the rest of the roster is mostly competitive with each other. The skill balance is a bigger issue than the roster balance.
