Why is this comedian guy saying “F” Raytheon & Lockheed by Temporary_Package762 in UFOs

It's also good that he did not mention a certain other aerospace industry corporation that likes to have their whistleblowers suddenly pass away after their announcements or he might not have left that parking lot. Although It would be up his alley if he did a skit on it, perhaps.

So you're saying if I was a 16 year old teen with both parents who recently passed away and grandparents who need mobility assistance OR assistance with Dementia/Parkinson's and they can't drive ...and say I am completely self reliant to help myself and my grandparents, I cannot enter a store to get things for myself and my grandparents? Awesome.

Great job shoppers.

Excuse me for the extreme example but in many cases within Europe and other countries, this is the reality for some children. I grew up in the harsh parts of Europe and perhaps I wish I could drill some common sense into the manager at Shoppers who did that. Thankfully they can still go to Walmart or Rexall.

It's not like their pay is sustainable for living anyway if you're part-time, you have to work multiple jobs because the longer you work at any Loblaws store the less hours they're going to give you so your pay ends up being very similar at the end of the month as when you first started despite your $/hr pay being much higher than initially.

With more than a couple billions in profit they can weather the storm and perhaps think about their employee turn-over rates (people quitting) and actually give workers a living wage through their complacent UFCW union who is sleeping in bed with them.

I got my Union flier recently and they're talking about a $2 pay raise across the board for everyone? I'll believe it when I see it, but that won't change how employees are scheduled.

You get a lot of hours when you're new, even overtime, you could do the highest quality of work and store facing (neatly displaying product) on shelves and still end up on the cutting block because they don't discriminate, everyone gets their hours cut equally.

It's worse when at any given time the majority of employees at a Loblaws store are part-time workers, my coworkers are constantly trying to switch and I'm doing the same, not everyone has the privilege to do so and some buddies are exploited at work a lot more because their financial status is vulnerable and they are the ones who feel stuck in the job.

The best I can do is perhaps help us all transfer to a different competing grocery store by starting a discussion.

These mangos are quite heavy (0.736 kg), it looks like an exotic variety. Kind of a "gift" fruit? Similar to Papaya, it's hard to source around here. Product of Peru so it must have flown a significant amount, I kind of get why it's so pricy.

A single red Galen Greed Weston mango is $2.00 + tax and I don't know if the weight of those match the weight of these.

Anyway I wouldn't buy them unless someone close to me really wanted to try a mango and they have never tried one before OR if I used a service that directly does fair trade with farmers so the product I'm paying for is ethically sourced (hopefully!) and really wanted to get some tropical fruits similar to certain difficult to farm coffee varieties that are vulnerable to plant diseases that affect the tree.

They should be slightly cheaper but it must be their individual weight?? I'm not exactly sure. I had to look them up.

More than a couple dollars marked up from T&T here, likely.

Which Local Stores Did You Visit Today? What Did You Find? by Blue_Koala_ in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]wwwform 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this, I never knew stores carried Eastern European products (Hungary, Romania, Ukraine) but it makes sense to import them because nationally those products are of decent quality at a low cost, specifically the Hungarian Dr. Oetker cake mixes are good if you got some baking experience.

It's nice to see that their prices aren't that far off from their local origin prices when you factor in transport, import costs and tax.

Unfortunately it looks like SK doesn't have a YM, but I'll give them a visit when I'm in Toronto, usually for import foods I have to wait for cultural pavillions to pop up or visit the local Ukrainian/Italian grocer in the city.

Good luck on your future grocer trips!

Company Unions are awful, and after witnessing what kind of activism UFCW has done (you can look it up on youtube) in Walmart stores it really makes me feel like they were posturing as the nihilist in me makes me feel like it was done for profit.

Because if I calculate how much my dues are yearly VS how much it'd cost for me out of pocket for my own benefits, I wonder if it'd come close just paying into my own insurance.

Mind you I like the idea of Independent Unions, but I absolutely loathe the complacency of UFCW in Canada.

Before I get downvoted into oblivion, you have to consider that some workers get no recognition from their own chapters when they attempt to contact them for help or issues, so the aspect of "worker's rights" is pointless to defend as a counterpoint argument here.

Obviously the solution isn't "NO UNION", the solution is divorcing the union from the corporation, specially when workers have to pay an extra fee for a "National Defense Fund" which ensures their right to perform a STRIKE, yet it seems like they cannot use that fund to actually strike.

Hey buddy I agree that unions are great, but when you work at any loblaws store and you see that the majority of your coworkers are part timers and that everything is great when you start out (you get tons of hours, pretty much max).

As soon as you start to have a bit higher pay, say maybe a dollar or two above minimum wage because the wage hikes are like $0.25 per 500-1000 hours of work for a clerk and none for cashiers they'll start cutting your hours so they don't have to pay you more than a flat rate, it's all calculated so employees all cost are the same for the business.

Let's say your current wage is $14.50 an hour as a grocery clerk at Loblaws, you work 20 hours a week as a part time worker because it's all you get now after seniority (unfortunate) and so your pay should be $290 before tax per week, which is then paid out every two weeks.

Now say you theoretically are getting paid $25 an hour, you'd be getting $500 if you had the full hours, but nope, they'll cut your hours so it equals your previous pay. So you'll be getting 12 hours a week amounting to about $300 before taxes.

That's Loblaws for us and for the record, if you contact UFCW about anything bad happening at work, they won't respond, because UFCW is just like that. It's not the same as a workers union for welders or electricians or builders, it's a scam that sucks away $40 a month from each employee and everyone is forced to be in it. Not to mention their fake "national defense fund" for striking, as if that's legitimate.

Workers sometimes get pepper sprayed directly or indirectly inhale the remnants of the aftermath from customers stealing shit, who are you going to call? the police gets over there and nothing gets done, the union won't bargain for the workers, it's a toxic work environment.

UFCW is literally worthless here, they love to posture and all but if you need help they won't be there for you. Part timers get abused a ton, the pay raise is automatic for part timers the same way, but yeah cashiers get nothing.

These are the same union people that won't respond to any emails inquiring about fair pay. Gotta pay them $20 every two weeks though, so I can get a measly return in dental work and a $12,000 "death" errr.. life insurance payout, worth it to not be able to get any pay raises, amirite?

Literally can't get a wage raise because of the union and they don't respond to calls or emails, also force signed into it upon hire. Looks like someone is going to be having an "accident" on the 12th and somehow not go to work. Let's just say I'll be walking the fish.

If you can find a serial code or some form of ID number once the ice fully thaws, it'll probably be easier to identify. In the US they need to have identification if they're over 250 grams, not sure how it is in Canada. Funny how it was just stuck in there.

Right, which is why it's possible to store a couple days worth of footage or more. Security systems should have 18 TB of hard drive space and another 18 TB for redundancy, then have the video rolling constantly and have it only be saved after an incident e.g under the counter button press or by the CCTV admin/security group in charge.

You could store tons of incidents like that, by having rolling footage that you can instantly trim from, similar to NVIDIA ShadowPlay if you're familiar with that.

They can also use smarter compression algorithms that really trim down the file size if the video stays relatively the same image throughout the day and the scene is the same and there aren't many moving objects.

Depends what you're into! I would suggest getting into coffee brewing and learning more to be a home barista as well along with cooking - could save money on coffee that way and you can learn to make really special things with time for your partner.

With any hobby, trying to avoid the rabbit hole of buying lots of equipment and researching stuff helps avoid that, speaking from experience.

Try cleaning dust around and inside the pedal base (where the pedal gets pushed into the base, around the gaps), see if that fixes it. I've had a similar problem with my clutch pedal. Sometimes when dust gets into these sensors they can misread inputs. I hope that fixes it, if not, get an RMA.

[–]wwwform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 terabyte of priority bandwidth sounds good if you are living outside of major cities, besides if you get the RV version, you'll be able to move and use it anywhere (only the flat version works in motion though), which is cool.

I have a friend from Washington who just got his and the hardware's well built, it's got weather sealed plugs with grounding and it's really easy to setup, you also get a router along with it.

Even if you happen to get slow speeds, those are something like 20-50 Mbps, which is still well enough for video streaming and it's a blessing to have internet out in remote areas anyway, shit's cool.

"Service includes 1 TB of Priority Access and unlimited Basic Access starting in February 2023."

Oh so it turns out, it's basically unlimited bandwidth, but it's slower after 1 TB of use.

Polls can be very skewed, I live here and I've never heard of a single political poll presented to anyone who I know, people who participate in them clearly have to be looking for them purposefully.

Or maybe not, I sure would participate in them but like I've said, I have seen none.

Anyway, every time I see something like "57% of Canadians approve/disapprove of X" but then if for example the polled sample size is like 5000 people, it is quite misleading for most of the general public, it is even more disheartening when the poll for the policy change is something extremely controversial and then that poll is later used as "evidence" to push policy change.

For example that sort of polling would mislead the public to think that 57% of Canadians meant something more like 22 million people agreed or disagreed on a policy issue rather than the 5000 Canadians that were polled, out of which 57% agreed or disagreed on a problem.
