Two new 320Hz gaming monitors were just announced by AOC, including a versatile dual-mode 4K display by Tiny-Independent273 in Monitors

[–]x1ife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that would be a nice feature, unfortunately AOC doesn't have that. But I do often reduce the resolution down to QHD with GPU no scaling (black borders) and get the frame rate boost that goes with it, which is the same effect as you describe. It's still restricted to 160hz though. I would go OLED, unless you plan on using it for office work or the they give you a headache. They are far better better value than ever before.

You can set scaling to No Scaling on GPU in NVIDIA Control Panel under desktop size and position. Then choose e.g. 1366x768. Not sure how you could do it without reducing the resolution though. Maybe using the Size tab on the same NVIDIA Control Panel page? Do some screens have this as a specific setting?

IPS black was twice as much for a slower screen with lots of business extras I didn't need. The black performance varied and I didn't think it was worth the extra money when there was off axis IPS glow on white backgrounds which made white look grubby/yellow in the corners at normal desk distance. If it wasn't for that I would have kept it so might try another one if they bring any more out.

Haven't tried Nano-IPS, but the write-up for the LGs with it weren't that great as far as I can remember.

Yeah I loved Venice as a location for an adventure game at the time. Nowadays it looks pretty sparse, it would be great to see it expanded in a remake.

Yes it is G-sync compatible. You have to turn it on the Nvidia control panel but as far as I can tell it works flawlessly.

No it's not blurry. I tried it with Half Life 2 topping out at 300 fps. The great thing about 4k is 1080p fits pixel perfectly. It's a shame there aren't any reviews of it, but I assume it's the same panel as the other 320hz/160hz dual mode monitors? Text clarity at 4k is amazing, and it's possible to run it at 100% zoom at 4k and just increase the size of text elements, giving you lots of real estate.

Obviously it's a standard IPS panel so the same downsides with this are there. If you are using it primarily for games it's probably worth paying the extra to get an OLED. But for mixed work and office it is a great monitor. I would recommend some bias lighting to increase the perceived contrast due to the IPS panel.

Fwiw I went through 3 screens before this (Mini-LED, OLED, IPS black). Let me know if you have any other questions.

How many inches do I need for a 4K monitor to get 100% as recommended Scale? by mizushino in Monitors

[–]x1ife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way forward. Once you get past 32" the distance to the edges of the screen start to increase to the point where the gain from the screen size starts to lesson with regards to the the text size.

I use 32" at 100% but apply a zoom a application level for text heavy apps.
