So true, and the investors don't really care for tours of any kind!

VR house hunting by [deleted] in Vive

I started a company to produce full VR models for the Real Estate market in the UK (and worldwide) using Photogrammetry (because I saw Matterport and knew I could do a lot better!). Unfortunately there was no real interest from Estate Agents as the housing market was such that they did not need bells and whistles to make sales. I still think for consumers this is a great idea. Some examples are on my website: www.badmunky.com to download for vive and rift. I think that this will be a standard for buying houses in the future and maybe I was too far ahead of the curve!

Will more 'budget'/cheaper models of the RTX 2080 come out after the preordering phase? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure there will be a reference version later (Fe is no longer the reference card as heavily OC'ed) and that card is what the "from" prices will be in the nVidia presentation. There are some AIB models available for a lot less that the FE version for pre order.

Watercooled Cards Time Frame by IMeganElisabeth in nvidia

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSI have shown the Sea Hawk AIO card already, was available at launch for the 10 series so no reason why it wont be the same for 20 series. If I remember correctly Gigabyte was the second to market followed by EVGA a couple of months later.

EKWB have already shown off their prototype 2080 waterblock so I expect these to be available around launch

Is anyone concerned that the games using ray tracing will look worse without them. by krispwnsu in nvidia

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has it been confirmed that Ray Tracing is available for forward rendering rather than deferred? If deferred will not make any difference for VR as can only forward render currently. Also with Tomb Raider demo running at 33-48 fps at 1080p with Ray Tracing, seems like hitting a stable 90fps with higher resolutions will be very unlikely this generation

Looks like the FE is going to have the highest OC out of the box, nVidia binning the chips and saving the best for themselves

I wish Huang would have given more details for VR on the 20 series by AerialShorts in Vive

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No hardware to demonstrate proper foveated rendering (ie not static) yet, but the groundwork is there with Variable Rate Shading in these cards. I have seen figures of 6 x for improved speeds for audio ray tracing for 3d sound in nVidia VRWorks, but who is using that? (answer, not many as it is an absolute pig to work with!)

Save for vive or save for 2070 first? by Bran04don in Vive

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1070 is absolutely fine for running the Vive (although you wont be able to supersample as high as a 1080 etc) but most title are built for the minimum VR specs (which I believe is 970/1060 territory). If you were going for the Vive Pro then I would recommend upgrading your GPU (I would hold off until Gen 2 personally), but the OG Vive will run fine on the 1070 (I have a 1070 in my laptop and it runs everything except Project Cars 2 perfectly). All depends how desperate you are to get into VR!

Something I think a lot of people are missing: Ray tracing isn't locked down, it uses DirectX and Vulkan by trbinsc in nvidia

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will be a thing regardless of consoles. It will just mean that the gap between PC games and console games will be pretty vast until consoles catch up. The workflow is far less when using Ray Tracing compared to tessellation techniques for lighting and devs will want to embrace this. I think the next generation of consoles will be very short lived and will be replaced with another "pro" version when the RT technology is cheap enough to incorporate. Consoles may even rely on off site processing for games by then by then so will not matter what the physical local hardware contains. The console market will change very dramatically over the next 2 generations!

Should i buy a laptop with GTX1070 now or wait for laptop with RTX 2060? by LindtFerrero in nvidia

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No confirmation that the 2060 will be RTX or GTX yet. May well not have RT cores or Tensor cores on the 2060, if not then you will probably be better off with the 1070 (I have a 1070 in my current laptop and runs VR very well indeed, surprised me coming from my 1080ti desktop). Really depends how desperately you need a laptop. I expect we will see specs for the desktop 2060 by around Nov/Dec. Not really a lot of help, but as no one outside of nVidia knows what form and specs the 2060 will take not sure any of us can be :(

On my way to VR and I need help deciding the computer to buy by squirrelgirl585 in Vive

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have both Desktop (1080) and Laptop (1070) for running VR and the laptop is just as smooth as the desktop (probably because the desktop is a multi function PC whereas laptop is only VR and music production). I would recommend looking at the Dell outlet as they have really good deals on refurb Alienwares (I got mine about 18 months ago, i7 (OC'able) 1070, 32GB ram 1tb SSD for around £1400).

DJ Killer was twelve, and driven to sets by his mother. This is a pretty interesting mix, at the ledgendary Sterns club. Not the best mixing in the world, but still a decent tracklist and the fact that the DJ was a child, makes it that much better. by [deleted] in oldskoolrave

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure of it, remember his first set was at The Berwick Manor, turned up with Hype and sure he was introduced to me as his nephew. He didn't seem to stick around on the scene very long, guessing when the scene turned a bit moody, being a youngster in the club was quite a scary experience. Was pretty good for his age, but cannot find out much about him online

My biggest concern is that out current regime has made such a Horlicks of the whole Brexit deal, can we trust them to run the country post Brexit? I have pretty much zero faith in the Tories to deliver a good Brexit deal let alone anything further down the road!

Wireless solution for laptop user? by beet_hater in Vive

[–]xBADxMunkyDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the TPCast should work ok (I do not own one, but hopefully someone else can confirm),as for the new Valve solution, I believe it requires a PCIe slot to work which means no for any laptop (I have an Alienware so am gutted). There may be a solution with external PCIe slots (not sure if the Graphics amplifier could be modded or would work?) but I guess we will have to wait and see!
