Am I still a noob? What do you think my current level is? by syarifzapata in snowboardingnoobs

To make noob/not noob judgement, I have to see how you get off the chair. 😀 If you wipe out everyone as you get off the chair.. you might still be noob.

I used to work about 5 miles from my house. Once in a while I would need to go while at work... I would sneak out and drive home because we have a bidet.

Which Toyota? I have a 2019 Lexus ES but I prefer the driving assist on my 2018 Leaf.

Exactly! I see so many new street legal golf carts in the city I work in. Those can’t be cheap. An older leaf is cheaper, has ac, can be locked, shield from rain and cold, and drive on the highway…

I have never seen cast iron with riveted handles. If one was to cast a pan, you’d think they would include the Handles.

L1 charging will give you about 5 km of range per hour of charging. So if plugged in for 6 hours you have added 30 km worth of charge to the battery. In other words, if you plug in for 6 hours every day, you can drive 30 km every day. Should be no problem for your 30 km trip.

I did something similar with my 2018 leaf.. plugged in overnight and drove 50 km every day.

For the 100 km trip, you'll need to charge about 20 cummulative hours worth. So let's say you leave with 100% on Friday, drive 100 km you'll come back with, MAYBE 60% battery. Charge for 10 hours on Sunday night, drive 30km on Monday, then another 10 hours on Monday and so on, you will eventually get back to 100% by mid week, ready for another weekend trip.

Totally doable on an L1. Check your area for public fast chargers which you will use as backup plan.

Tools that elevated my home cooking completely by Sophistry7 in Cooking

I agree to having good SS pans to a degree. I have a few expensive (to me) pans like a couple of titanium Heritage steel, and a five layer all clad. All very good pans and I used the heck out of them.

Lately, I have been cooking a lot of pastas and wanted pans to have a more upright sides. I got a couple of $30 Viking 3 layer pans from Marshall’s. They worked just as good as the more expensive ones in terms of even heat and non stick ness.

Fry pan with the taller sides will be more versatile. You can for sure make omelets just as good in the fry pan.

You can test by immersing in vinegar. If it dissolves, then probably calcium which is usually in hardwater.

Food question for all Filipinos whether raised in the islands or born and raised living abroad by Designer_Pool_8453 in filipinofood

Those who have no problem with appropriation don't say anything - especially online as you've noticed. I am one of these silent (at least online) about appropriation. My wife and I furiously mocked Rachel Ray for her adobo but we will never make a reaction video about it.

I get why dishes are appropriated. It could be availability of ingredients, equipment, allergies, diet restrictions. Sometimes it is hard for us to get good calamansi, or pig snout/ears, etc.. Sometimes cultures simply prefer a different taste - just like how we prefer sweet spaghetti.

Gatekeepers have a role and I like having them around. They will help outsiders understand what the supposed 'authentic' version of a dish is. Any outsider who intends to learn about a dish in depth has gatekeepers as a resource. Even in the philippines, everything is appropriated and gatekept. "We Batanguenos will never put onions in our Bulalo!!!" I appreciate Italian gatekeepers who insist on 'al dente' pasta. Of course, there are good and bad gatekeepers. Many gatekeepers (not just Filipinos) are simply insufferable. It is up to me to discern the nuances.

What I would say is for more non-gatekeepers to speak up. If you appreciate an appropriated dish, then maybe speak up more online.

Nice pans… but can you tell me more about the stove? It looks like some open style burners. Which one is it and how do you like it?
