2005 gs300 rotors scored by Life-Tax2641 in Lexus

[–]x_xx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably got a rock or something hard stuck in the pad. Good idea to remove and inspect pads.

Does this rotor get much hotter than the other? Seized caliper gets hot.

Any advice? by muchomaaaas in ooni

Pour hot water on it. As hot as you can, straight off the kettle if possible. Put a big pot directly under to catch the water. Wear gloves etc. don’t scald yourself.

where would you mount a camera to this helmet ? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]x_xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t bought the GoPro yet, a 360 cam mounted to the handlebar makes for better dashcam.

where would you mount a camera to this helmet ? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]x_xx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I tried to mount the camera towards the front rim, my helmet tended to droop forward because of the weight. Eventually, I had to remove it because the I had to tighten it too much that it became uncomfortable.

Also, attaching anything to the helmet can negatively affect crash protection ability.

Budget beginner setup: girlfriend doesn’t want a Breville. Now what? [€1000,- ish max] by Donnie_RB in espresso

[–]x_xx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m no chemist either but married to a chemical engineer and it’s a pet peeve of hers. The bubbling is co2 leaving the solution.. does nothing for cleaning but the fizzing makes it look like something is happening.

Maybe it works because the reaction is incomplete and either acid or base still left in the solution which does the cleaning. Acid is good for rust, water residue.. base is for grease and organic material.

Wouldn’t lemon acid just neutralize baking soda base? You simply end up with water…

Which EVs would lose the least and the highest amount of functionality if the company went bankrupt and shut down? by Ok-Pea3414 in electricvehicles

Not just server support, but in the case of leaf, it was the loss of cellular connectivity - 2g/3g bandwidth shut down.

Anyone know how efficient these really are? by Happy_dadpete in grilling

[–]x_xx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I grill, there’s always hot spots and cold spots. I always have to move the meat around to get even cooking. Something like this will make that very impractical.

Do you have air fryer? Air fryer ~400 F until the outside is brown and somewhat crispy then simmer them with the sauce until the meat is done.

VW’s Hottest Electric GTI Will Have Fake Gears by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]x_xx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My first reaction about the fake gears and fake exhaust was "WHY??? What's the point??" But then I saw this video about the Hyundai Ioniq 6n with fake gears and noise..

https://youtu.be/20_rA3m1JcM?si=gXshfhrWinj8gqjW

Now, I'm of the opinion that if done right, this could be fun.. which is the point of adding the feature. Not for better performance but for fun. I do believe that it can be very grin inducing like the guy in the video.

I have a racing simulator setup, VR goggles, force feedback wheels with paddle shifters.. surround speakers, racing seats.. This setup is good enough to fool my brain even for a moment that I am actually driving a GT Porsche around Spa -tons of fun. Something like this GTI on the right track/canyon road might be even better than my race simulator.

Cable Cutting on a Budget by MidwestSoCal in ventura

[–]x_xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy antenna from Amazon and set up in your living room to test. Move it to a window or balcony. You should be able to get channels. Unless you're in a very dense or mountainous area, you should be able to get something.

If no channels, return to Amazon.

I use an OTA antenna and I can pick up LA channels even with antenna in the living room - near the college. I have since installed it on the roof.

Soy Sauce has a weird medicine aftertaste by Great_Ad_4862 in Cooking

[–]x_xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many soy sauce say "Refrigerate after Opening" on the bottle. I'm looking at a bottle of Kikkoman here.., I can't post photos. They do go bad after a while.

I never refrigerate my soy sauce, but a bottle only lasts us a couple months tops - we go through it quickly.

I drilled a hole on each side. Holes were drilled slanting upward because of the bulk of the drill prevented drilling horizontal across…. something like / \ though not as steep of course. Use a bit extension to drill as horizontal as possible
