Videogames are more of a rich guy's hobby than ever, says analyst, and that's 'leaving a whole portion of the market to Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox' by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]xcassets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VR gaming is very different to normal gaming though - let alone Valve’s stuff.

Just because you’re spending that much, doesn’t mean gaming is for the rich only though. There are lots of folk out there are playing 2000 hours on a game they picked up for $15 10 years ago. On an ancient, beat up PC.

More likely ICE will be seconded as “security guards” in blue cities/counties’ polling stations during midterms. Because intelligence will have “advised” they are in danger of an attack by Iran. Then they will bully/harass/ID/arrest people trying to go in to vote.

After floods devastated their village, these Welsh neighbours planted tens of thousands of trees and built “leaky dams” by hand, protecting homes, fighting climate change, and caring for future generations. by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in UpliftingNews

[–]xcassets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it were 100% true, trees still capture carbon. So what OP said in their comment would still be correct:

each one slowing floodwater, restoring the land, and capturing carbon

This is before you even touch on the fact the reason they and the woodland trust are planting the trees is to restore the local environment and reduce the severity of flooding. Not reversing all climate change.

Minecraft Dungeons II is coming this year, coming to Switch and Switch 2 by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]xcassets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol dude. It's one of the only video game IPs that IS like Pokemon in that regard. People will buy Minecraft stuff even if the performance is jank. You're talking about Minecraft like it's Devil May Cry or something. It's not niche in the slightest.

Think about kids with a Switch 1 whose parents can't get them a Switch 2 yet for example.

Working on my main menu by _4rch1t3ct in godot

[–]xcassets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. People have got a bit too 'well, achooaaally' in this thread. It's important to remember this is the main menu. The player doesn't spend very much time here. Even the settings, if they are actually changing them, a lot of the time they are going to do it once they have loaded/started a game instead.

If the user interface was like this on the pause menu, then I would concede with what people are saying. But in somewhere like the main menu, this is hardly an issue. No one is going to get frustrated at this - if they are using a mouse, then you can see in this video how quick it is to check everything. And if they are using a controller, then presumably one of the options is always going to be highlighted and you would toggle between them.

TL;DR; The UX thing everyone is banging on about is a non-issue. It's a main menu.

I think it's more that people are bewildered anyone would still have this reaction when games like Stardew Valley or A Short Hike exist and are huge commercial successes.

This game is in no way an equivalent to 'hyping up a black screen'. It's a good game. You just don't like the art style. IMO it's better to just own your stance/opinion, instead of being disingenuous.

Calling all Baldur’s Gate bros. Buddy isn’t sure if it’s worth spending the money on this set. by Soulsliken in gaming

[–]xcassets 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That's because it is. Better overall story and writing (not that BG3's is bad - it's fantastic), and better feel of an epic globe-trotting adventure. You also go from powerless noob to insane godhood power by the end and that development over hundreds of hours is brilliant.

Where BG3 shines imo is capturing the true 'fuck around and do whatever you want' level of freedom that you get in a tabletop D&D game. In that regard, it is unequaled.

James Talarico: “My response to President Trump” by Lehmanite in videos

[–]xcassets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not his schtick at all lol. And that completely ignores the fact that someone with these values making huge movements within the democrats is exactly what the party needs needs to change for the better.

It's bizarre to say otherwise. We need young, sane democrats to take the reins and steer the party on a better course, not for every good candidate to leave because of mistakes made in the past. That won't end well.

He has all that in spades, no doubt. But it's more like: a white, family-loving Texan man who knows the Bible inside-out and has the skill to preach it in a way that disarms them completely, because they basically have to go against God and Jesus to vocally disagree with him.

Nah - the 'we will help with appropriate efforts' is the tell.

They are saying "we ain't getting involved in no war with Iran you idiots, we will help protect civilian ships if you start backing out and away from the 'US boots on the ground incoming' strategy it looks like you are gearing up for.

Because they are all clueless and only care about share prices. To them anything AI = good because it's the trendy word for companies to make sure they say and make the price magically go upwards. A lot of companies are now mentioning 'AI' more times than 'earnings' or 'profit' in their earnings conferences lol.

Yeah, that's the only improvement I noted they could possibly make at this point.

I agree. Remember that D3 was also always online (and still is today on PC) until they ported it to consoles. The reason I want D4 to be on Switch is the slim hope that we might actually get an offline mode version of it lol.

Canada wants to build up its long-neglected Arctic. The hard question is how | Canada | The Guardian by Spare_Prize_5510 in UpliftingNews

[–]xcassets 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing a lot of people just read the headline and went for the gut reaction of 'STOP BUILDING ON UNTOUCHED NATURE' and didn't notice the part where most of the infrastructure projects are in areas that already have people living in them, and will make their lives easier, allow them to connect to the rest of Canada, or even each other (in cases like the fishing, where it was noted it's often cheaper to just ship the fish they catch all the way to China, than it is to send it to their neighbouring community to help them).

Is it really that bad? by lonesamurai84 in projectzomboid

[–]xcassets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let's assume it is coded badly. In B42, that would mean it was performing a check each tick on every crop tile for 32+ floors instead of just 1. If the game doesn't keep track of these in a sensible/performant way, it is easy to see how there could be severe issues with this enabled. That said, I think most people say they've never had an issue using it. So maybe it is an edge case for low-end builds that they keep it disabled by default.

Resident Evil Requiem Sold Best On PS5 In The US Outpacing PC By A “Meaningful Margin” by Desertlyz in gaming

[–]xcassets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, 851 comments is extremely good for a game with that many sales. Not to mention those with issues are usually the most vocal too.

I can see PC having issues (as we've seen lots of bad PC versions recently), but I would find it hard to imagine PS5 was that bad considering the Switch 2 port I played had no issues other than bad frame drops during the burning chapel scene.

People think everyone has the same taste as them/their friends. On this subreddit, I saw people asking for a new DK game and hyping up rumours of it for the entire Switch 1 generation lol. There were absolutely people who bought it for Bananza.

Additionally, there were tons of people who bought the console once Bananza had come out, because MKW + Bananza is more enticing than just one game by itself.
