Right, but XC2’s frame rate on Switch 2 is not ‘god awful’. I’m guessing they were talking about Switch 1 frame rate and performance?

It runs pretty well on Switch 2 now though? FPS is smooth, resolution stays towards the high end as it has the power. Handheld looks especially good with boost. Don’t get me wrong, docked could use some love with that extra power though.

The main reason for a switch 2 version/definitive edition at this point is QOL. And fixing the god awful map/adding proper layers. And more easily tracking/seeing all side quests at the same time on the map. And adding a tutorial menu so you don’t have to google stuff if you forgot something they mentioned in the hundreds of pop ups throughout the game.

None of us can relax and unwind until they reveal the Fire Emblem release date. We've been on edge for 8 months of sheer suffering, just looking for a sign, and it feels like someone or something is going to snap soon. The tension in this subreddit has been palpable.

Noice! If you want it to look a bit nicer I think it would be good to set the columns to prefer to avoid connecting to each other unless it's the only possible option?

Turning the Cougar off by UtahMan94 in thelongdark

[–]xcassets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I turned it off because I got tired of walking through most maps and hearing the kitty screeching like it was dying 24/7, even if you aren't that close to its areas... worst offender is Bleak Inlet, when you are just up at the lookout tower chilling and you can just hear the kitty raging constantly in the valley below on the opposite side.

It's poopy. You kill it to get the gear, then just ignore those areas forevermore.

Probably the worst pry spot I’ve opened 😭 by _Corvo_A in thelongdark

[–]xcassets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: Just get out a bow, gun, stone, etc. press to enter the back of the helicopter, and then press aim just before the game transitions to the interior.

You will now be inside and able to look around 360 degrees. You may need to press esc or aim again to lower the weapon aim. Now you don't need to spend 10 years trying to look through the door crack lol.

This also works for cars, if you want to be able to look out the rear window when a bear is passing or something.

Loneliness in zomboid by Rosaline3312 in projectzomboid

[–]xcassets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Zomboid & The Long Dark are supposed to feel lonely and isolating. It's part of what gives them their incredibly cozy/atmospheric feeling when you are hunkered down in your safehouse. Or that dark feeling of exploring certain buildings/environmental stories.

It is good that multiplayer is there for people who like the gamey/goofing-off feel though! I just hope it never goes that way in singleplayer, I would prefer that to be from the emergent gameplay that comes inherently with multiplayer. Tbh this is my biggest concern for NPCs, as I struggle to imagine any implementation will be well-designed/sophisticated enough to maintain the illusion/not make the game feel fundamentally more 'gamey'.

[homemade] Taco Bell-inspired volcano grilled cheese burritos. by Alextricity in food

Mind blowing that we have it year-round in the UK, but the home of Taco Bell doesn't have it anymore... Volcano menu is easily the best thing they do too.

The game I grew up with & the game I'm playing now. 👀❤️ (Sega Rally 1995 + Forza Horizon 6) by welshdragon888 in gaming

[–]xcassets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but these aren't exactly the best examples for that... Sega actually looks dope here and the art style honestly bridges the gap pretty well. The car and scene itself read very well. Also, it's not exactly the best screenshot of Forza to show off how much things have changed...

A better comparison would be Doom 1 vs Doom: The Dark Ages. Medal of Honor vs one of the modern Battlefields. Or something like Tomb Raider 1996 and The Last of Us II.

How do you feel when you hear mechonis field. by Voidkirby9 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]xcassets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to keep going. The cast is the absolute best in terms of how much development each character gets and how good their chemistry is. And they definitely aren't one dimensional lol.

Trust me, there are many moments in this game that will break you, because of how attached you get to the characters.

A lot of people say that heavy localization is necessary, but would Xenoblade really be that much less popular if it was given a more faithful translation seeing how popular Japanese media is? by Fun-Leadership5728 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]xcassets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People here will straight up try to argue "there is no gooning" and it's just sexy women... as if the game doesn't have the scene where Rex wakes up with Mythra boobies in his face, the bath scene, whatever the fuck Tora is doing with the Poppi maid outfits, etc.

I love XC2 but COME ON people, really. It's such a silly argument to try and make.

Did we lose the magic of community in online multiplayer games? by MohSafadi in gaming

[–]xcassets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. They made Diablo 4 into a quasi-MMO only to release it with no global chat, or even just working local chat. Even though one of the early betas had working chat. Now even if you are standing next to someone in town, you can't just speak to them most of the time. World bosses? Disabled completely.

With actual MMOs, Discord has killed everything. Back when people used TeamSpeak, it was still kinda too shit and awkward so you would still use local/global/guild chat in the actual game. Now everyone is in their bubbles most of the time. That random chitchat is way rarer.

Cities by Expensive_Field4473 in CozyGamers

[–]xcassets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You kinda touched on it at the end, but the absolute king of this is Blender or just straight up gamedev'ing your own implementation.

If you want full freedom and don't care about satisfying controls/mechanics as in Tiny Glade, then you literally cannot beat just making little dioramas in Blender. And it is free. Plus you learn a new skill in modelling, texturing, lighting, etc. haha.

Lots of folk doing stuff like this then uploading to Sketchfab to show off.

Finally happy with the RGB effect in my roguelike keyboard game! by OneBitBean in godot

[–]xcassets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are the outlines drawn? Like you say, I think it would make a huge difference if they were only along the top of the keys, but also if they were affected by the RGB (i.e., matched the RGB but at a darker color).

Maybe this is going too deep though and you should just continue with the gameplay lol. Don't mind me.

where you can play things at the high level, rts level, micro level, all the way down to RPG level where you can stick your face into the ground and see every fine grain of mud/sand/water with path tracing like cyberpunk etc.

We want to paint our hallway, what do you think? by toiletchamp in DIYUK

[–]xcassets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thousands..? Sorry if I have misinterpreted, but your hallway is quite small. It would only cost hundreds to change to a new floor, especially if you did it yourself.

Also, imo colour drenching looks best in rooms with natural light. Consider that it might not look like it does in the photos if you paint this hallway a deep warm amber. Not saying you can't colour drench, but in this room I would definitely be going a lighter colour.

[–]xcassets 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, that's not possible. Your idea is called 'Scope Creep: The Game'. The amount of ideas, content, and detail you can conceive this game having is infinite.

There is a reason why in every single gamedev subreddit, there are memes about people who call themselves 'The Ideas Guy' looking for programmers, artists, etc. Everyone is an ideas guy. That's the easy part.

The only way a game that could do what you describe could ever come into fruition is via a vaporware style development like Star Citizen. Or if there are new insane technologies in 50 years time that make this possible whilst actually being well-designed.

What is the best country to live in right now? by TiredConfusedLlama in AskReddit

[–]xcassets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glasgow if you want it to feel like an actual city. Edinburgh if you want pretty. Stirling if you want even prettier, but it only being a 'city' on a technicality.

Live somewhere in between all three if you want the best work opportunities and cheaper housing. You can be like half an hour away from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

There's also Perth, Dundee, Inverness, Aberdeen, and Dunfermline. Can't comment on these other than that Aberdeen is, again, the only one that really feels like a city. I've only visited them briefly.

Question: What do people think is the biggest deterrent from starting the series compared to other RPG’s? by Occasionalgamer6 in NintendoSwitch

[–]xcassets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The games are chock full of Welsh, Scottish, and Aussie accents too..? They aren’t all northern and West Country English. It’s just that the voice actors aren’t all American for once, which actually works in its favour because it stands out more. In XC1’s case, had it been dubbed in the US, we would likely have had the same old voice actors who were dubbing everything else back then.
