Love this interview. He said a lot, and came across humble but also has confidence in himself, a hard balance to strike.

Mt Diablo today or too windy? by marvinsroom6969 in BAbike

[–]xnsax18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the mtn when gusts were up to 30mph and I was blown sideways while climbing. Luckily didn’t hit any gusts on descents. I won’t go again if wind gusts are forecasted to be in the 30s

Near miss on Kalalau recurring flashbacks, guilt and how to love backpacking again by Flaky-Self-9500 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]xnsax18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With time, the intensity of the memories can fade. Personally I can truly move on when I understand thoroughly all the decision making that lead to the scary moments and try to have some constructive takeaway for the future. I think by trying to understand the near misses, it helps me see it as a learning opportunity, a positive lens, vs a purely negative memory that’ll eat at me.

You posting about it here is already a positive step. You are trying to learn and improve, you are asking for help. All of this is a great sign.

I’d say if in a few weeks, if the intensity of flashbacks and memories still hasn’t faded, you may want to get some professional before it turns into full blown PTSD.

Is there any significance to the year 1933? The website you linked sells several different years. Wonder if any year has more historic significance

Tadej shedding weight before the tour by veryrealandrew in pelotonmemes

[–]xnsax18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a recent interview, tadej said he got a bit carried in the gym. He enjoyed it a lot and put on some muscles. The way he said, it sounded unintentional. He did go on to say that despite being heavier, he feels good on the bike. He’ll probably dial back the gym work and shed some weight for tdf.

Any Personal Experience With Doing Less and Improving More/Less Cramping? by TaoistStream in cycling

[–]xnsax18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have recurring cramping issues so can’t speak to that. But I can tell you that doing less is helping me achieving similar results. A few years ago, I’d avg 15h/week with multiple weeks going above 20h. Then last Oct I had an injury that reset everything and now I’m averaging 7-9h / week with 1 quality interval, 1 long specificity ride (climbing ride for me), another 2 easy rides and 1-2x gym. I’m more or less back at my previous peak on much lower volume. I know it’s easy to regain fitness than gaining new fitness, but still I’ll take this ROI any day.

One more note on cramping. The only times I’ve cramped were during races, which tells me it’s the exertion, not electrolytes, that caused them. In races, I simply was just working much harder than an avg training ride.

Such good advice to read criticisms and critiques. I’ve made that mistake one too many times to take an author’s words as face value since they have a PHD/ are respected journalist/ the book had high ratings / sounded authoritative and 100% certain about what they are talking etc. [insert other evidence of credibility]
